Pottery shopping with a hint of Alice in Wonderland meets Swiss family Robinson…read more Parking is up top and you walk down through a beautiful landscaped path that opens up into a pottery haven and as what I've noticed all over the island amazing sights. A treehouse is located to the left next to a wooden shed adorning more ceramic crafted goods. The wall of mugs is by far my favorite, a two tones handcrafted vessel to house coffee is the bees knees. The lawn showcases yard decor a plenty stuck in the ground so don't forget to look down. Picnic tables are everywhere displaying beautiful piece after beautiful piece. Following the treasure trove of tables to the back of the property you find cliff side views and what I can only assume is a rentable venue (if it's not it should be). There are two swings to leisurely take in the views and an enjoy a small beak from shopping. Don't forget to go inside the main house where room after room highlights different artists of the island and a bit of history of the establishment!

There are several arts and…read morecrafts-type places in town and in my limited experience, Island Studios had the best selection and at fairly reasonable prices. It's also a handsome place with their various pieces well displayed. I was particularly impressed with their glass wall pieces and some wood boxes by a person on Orcas Island by the name of River Jim. I also thought that the owner was very helpful, especially since I'll probably buy one of River Jim's boxes in the future. Jane Y.'s experience is unfortunate, although a sometimes high shipping/handling charge for often fragile and uniquely shaped artistic objects is more common than not. And it is certainly something I expect and factor into my purchasing decisions. I'm also usually suspicious of Yelp reviews from a profile with no picture and only one pointed posting. I call this a "drive by".

I think next time I visit I am going to book myself a class in their studio- the do glass fusing there and it is something I am very interested in learning! Valeri, who was running the shop on this day, and is one of the artists, (how cool is that?) was very helpful and informative. Told us all about the different items, how they are made, what they are made of, etc. In addition to their flagship ceramics, they have gorgeous paper art, cards, jewelry, bath&beauty items, kitchen items, and probably more. This is a new location - they are originally located in Orcas Island. They plan to have classes and/or a workshop in this location soon.

The store is a bit tricky to navigate with items all over the place. But, that's island charm for you :) The gentleman at the counter was friendly and helpful, and we did end up picking a few things to bring back with us.

The store is also extremely hard to navigate, as it's so small. There are plenty of other boutiques nearby with friendly salespeople and enough room to move around.
