Howells was a hoot!! What a super cute pumpkin farm. I had no idea what to expect of this farm. This pumpkin was picturesque. Perfect time to come out here is definitely on a warm October day. During COVID19: visited on a Tuesday afternoon. Hardly any families were out here. I counted about 5 families. Including mine and my friend and her kids. Nicely spaced out farm for patrons to social distance. Driving in, looks like a private home but you get a mini tour of the farm when you drive to park. Admission barn easy to locate. Flower green house near there. Pumpkins are picked for you and are gathered in large wagons, central to the activities. Activities are not too far of a walk from each other. Stroller friendly. Bunny land. 2 Snack shops. Inflatable outdoor jumping area. Even a small zip line! Hay bale climbing and mini corn pit. (Most pumpkin farms took this out this year!) and more It was a great experience. $11.00 per ticket for ages 2 and up. Pricey when you have a family of 5!!! Wow We spent $14.50 for 4 slushees and candy. I saw they make their own kettle corn? But we never bought. Overall it was lovely and I look forward to going back! Social distancing was great and I like going on a weekday afternoon. Pro tip: plan to spend 4 hours here if you have more than one kid ages 5 and up to get your full experience!! read more

I have great memories of taking my daughters to pumpkin patches when we lived in California but don't recall ever having to pay admission so was a little shocked at the $11 per person admission. Okay for adults but it would have been nice to have a less expensive option for our two year old granddaughter. Yes there are many fun activities available but the only two that were age appropriate were the tractor ride and tub train. And then, as expected, you pay for pumpkins (.45/pound or $3 each for pie pumpkins). Very beautiful flowers and many places to take nice photos so I am giving Howell's four stars for a fun afternoon spent there but be warned that this will not be an inexpensive outing! read more

My family has been to a bunch of pumpkin patches, all of them that I know about within an hour radius of Knoxville, Iowa, a few even farther than that. This one was a little under an hour's drive, and it's the best one yet for us. Admission was $11 each, pretty normal. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. There was plenty to do: a corn maze, store, wagon ride, animals to pet, corn cannon, zip line, jumping pillow, and much more! It's large enough to have plenty to do, but not overwhelming either. We were there for almost 4 hours, which was long enough, yet we didn't do absolutely everything. I guess we'll have to come back next year! read more

Howell Pumpkin Patch is the perfect place for your family to enjoy a beautiful autumn day! The short drive (from Des Moines) to the pumpkin patch lets you build just enough anticipation before arriving. Once you are there, you immediately notice the rows of green Christmas trees, waiting to be tagged and prepared for the Christmas season. A gray gravel road grooves through the picturesque property and leads you past the main barn and to the parking lot. It's breathtaking! Walk to the main barn and pay the $11 admission fee. That admission fee includes access to the corn maze and pick-your-own-pumpkin patch. Inside the main barn you will discover lots of fun home decor. So cute! Behind the main barn, you can hitch a tractor-ride to the corn maze and pumpkin patch. The corn maze is a very basic corn maze. It is definitely meant for children. It was not difficult to find your way through it. I would describe it as more of a corn path rather than a corn maze. It was still fun! Near the corn maze was the pedal cars (they have adults ones) you can race. That was fun but quite a workout! Right next to the pedal cars is the pumpkin patch. There are tons of pumpkins and gourds waiting for you to pick them! Once you have picked the perfect pumpkin, hop a ride on the tractor back to the main barn and pay for your pumpkins ($0.49 per pound). Near the main barn, you'll find more kid-friendly activities like mud-pie stations, pony rides (those cost extra), tree swings, slides, little pedal bikes, and goats you can feed. There is also a corn cannon ($1 gets you 4 corn cobs), an ice cream stand, and a quaint cafeteria. Overall, I love this place. It deserves 4 stars because it is, without a doubt, a great place to bring the family and young kids. I will say that if you are looking for a more adult experience (i.e. no kids), you might not find what you seek at Howell Pumpkin Patch. Try it for yourself! read more

I have a confession: I was totally obsessed with the idea of bringing the baby to a nice pumpkin patch and taking some memorable family photos for her first fall. I'm completely unfamiliar with the Des Moines and surrounding areas so picking a pumpkin patch that we'd enjoy felt like shooting in the dark. Howell's was a great choice that went above and beyond my expectations. For starters, getting there is a piece of cake. Parking is free and was situated on a grassy field. We felt that the terrain was a little unforgiving to our little Britax stroller. When we reached the gravel paved walkway leading to the pumpkin patch, we just decided to turn around and ditch the stroller in the car. It probably would've been easier to pop the baby in the Ergo in hindsight. We didn't have to pay to actually explore the grounds. There is a fenced off area that has a ton of activities and that's what you're paying admission price for. Maybe this is common knowledge for residents? I had no clue and was imagining that we'd have to fork over $8 to take pictures with pumpkins. The fenced off activities looked like a ton of fun but we opted to pass on it since the baby's too young. We decided to just stick to walking around and sightseeing. The grounds were quite beautiful when we went and the photos we took were lovely! Other noteworthy things: The cob cannon was awesome. You fork over a $1 (or was it $2?) and shoot corncobs at a plastic pumpkin target fastened on top of a silo. Guess who hit the target?! I demanded that my boyfriend call me the cob cannon king for the rest of the day. He simply rolled his eyes and ignored me. Jealousy at its finest, but I digress.. the ice cream was delicious too. read more

We have came here every year for the past 6 years for the pumpkin patch. Starting 2 years ago we noticed a decline in the upkeep. This year was absolutely horrible. If it weren't for a groupon we would have asked for a refund and left. The kids area was in disrepair and most of the attractions we tried to use were not working properly. The kids favorite part every year is getting to shoot the corn cob cannon. They love hitting the Orange target and hearing the sirens go off and seeing the lights spin. To our extreme disappointment after each hit there was nothing. The guy just seemed to not care. I would go into detail about all of the problems we experienced on our trip yesterday, but this place no longer deserves our attention or money. Save your money and find a pumpkin patch that uses their high admission fees to actually keep their place nice. We will be finding a new pumpkin patch for next year. read more

We go every year. The dried flowers in the barn alone are amazing, and the kiddie korral gets more creative every year. We have 5 kiddos and can't miss it! read more
