Wow, what a great little park. I expected the concrete path and the security fence to "protect" us,…read morebut what I didn't expect were the many benches and garden areas along the way. Even nearly 18 months after it opened, it still was graffiti free and looking nice. Plus, it overlooked the river and TWO different sets of railroad tracks. Seeing three trains go by while were were playing on it certainly boosted this railfan's review! (And, unbelievably, my cousin who was on one of the Amtrak trains and lives in NYC spotted us train watching as she rolled by!) We traveled over from the Corning Preserve to Quackenbush square, walked around a bit, and came back. Our toddler liked it when we kicked a rubber ball along the walkway (hot tip: if you kick it and he doesn't get it, you better run because it will roll down the hill!) There wasn't a lot of shade but it was overcast that day so it worked out. It isn't a huge "park" but it sure beats a barely used highway ramp which is what it used to be. The fact that you can get a nice, different perspective of the downtown area makes it a fun place to explore for a little while. And it is free. And... it is near trains. Don't wake me... I must be dreaming.

The only thing is they really need to do is put lines in the parking lot. Turns out you can't put videos on this and all my really cool pictures of the Corning preserve were videos. It's really a fun drive it's really nice calm pretty you can smell the fresh air in the river. There's lots of food places downtown to try. It's a nice little day trip.

Also known as the…read more"Corning City Preserve," this park located between I-787 and the Hudson River is a long, narrow place that is perfect for walking above the water or perhaps resting and catching up with friends on one of its many benches. Located on the southern portion is an amphitheater of sorts (named "Jennings Landing") where Alive at Five concerts are held in the summer. A beautiful bridge goes over the train tracks and I-787 to connect this area with downtown Albany. There is also a couple of small ponds, a playground area for the children, and open spaces for Frisbee or picnics. The "Mohawk Hudson Hike-Bike Trail" continues north from here. I find driving into the area a little confusing as Quay Street is one-way only and you have to be heading north on I-787. I find it much easier to park at the free lots on Water Street and walk in. Just a word of caution... It can get a bit dark at night and there are some "regulars" who stay here throughout the night.

Still, the somewhat limited amenities of the park also limit my options to enjoy the park, which is why I'm not sure if I'll be coming back here in the future. On a positive note though, I saw people jogging, biking, picnicking, and having their car towed, and it looked like the trail might stretch for many miles, so the park clearly provides many benefits to many of us. There are picnic benches and a gazebo, a public restroom, and plenty of parking.

But "Tidal Estuary Park" doesn't really roll off the tongue. It's lovely to have this piece of land along the waterfront in Troy dedicated for public use. Sometimes it's a farmers market. Sometimes it's the grounds for a festival. But I like to walk along the river after a dinner in the Collar City, just to enjoy the view. The park would be nicer if there was more shade, and maybe a little less concrete. And then there's the issue of the big gaping hole where City Hall used to be. But even that crumbling infrastructure is part of the charm. It is. Of course, Troy is on an upswing, and development will one day fill in that hole. Maybe with a movie theater. Maybe with something else. We'll have to wait and see. I'm just glad that I don't have to be the one to make those decisions.

My wife and I have been here for festivals and it really is a great venue for that. The stone wall is a perfect place for sitting on and watching the boats, or face the other way behind the stage during a concert and see how bands really are during a song. We have come here on the weekends with a blanket just to watch the fountain and do a cross word puzzle or eat take-out food. Parking is convenient, and it is nearby to a lot of walkable places for food, books, or other diversions.

The playground is a bit sparse but it's spacious and has slides and swings. Once part the boardwalk/bridge with streams running underneath, there are several trails although they basically loop or otherwise all connect. There's a path that connects directly to what looks like the baseball field at Lisha Kill Middle School, so we could hear kids play while walking on some part of the trails. I hope this natural space is preserve for a long time for all to enjoy.

The park is fun but looks a Lil Gothic with everything painted in black. There are a few nails that pop out and I have seen a few kids get hurt. In addition to the play ground, they have, softball, baseball, basketball, tennis courts, soccer fields and an ice skating rink. This is also the location for July 4th (independence day) fire works. Make sure you park a Lil far away and walk as the wait time is not worth it.

This was recently built and it its architecture is similar to the old Voorheesville train station. There is a small train-shaped playground area for the kids, and some informational display maps for anyone interested in learning about the area. But for me, the draw is a nice place to sit and watch the trains go by. I used to park here in the dirt and grass parking lot and watch them, but now I have some creature comforts available. For the biking and/or walking enthusiast, the trail has a lot to offer too. My wife walked along part of it and noticed other small areas to park and relax. All well and good, but for me I just want to see the trains. It is nice that everyone can enjoy this area.
