Came here for the ice rink! The lobby area is warm and spacious with vending machines and access to locker rooms and a large glass viewing window straight to the ice. In the rink itself the heaters over the bleachers either weren't turned on or don't work regardless I would bundle up and bring a blanket to lay on the seats. Beautiful, scenic park with multiple sections, including a pond, a playground with sprinkler pad, and a huge golf course. Great spot to go fishing, bring the kids to play, and just relax. read more

Shame on Frear. We have come to this course over the years and today was such a disappointment. We came to play golf with people who do not play too often. Apparently you have to be a pga professional to play here or you get kicked out. We came right up to a green and someone just left, but we are holding too many people up. What a joke. read more

I make it a rule to not use social media to rant, but I want to warn my golfing friends (specifically female golfers) that Frear Park Municipal Golf Course does not deserve our patronage. In an effort to host a "team building" event with my 12 month staff, we booked two foursomes to play 9 holes today. Only 6 were going to play and 2 were just going to ride in the cart. We divided the two teams (of 3) so that there were two experienced and one less experienced golfer in each group. We determined we would play a scramble (best ball) to keep play moving. The first foursome (3 golfers), had two men and one woman playing. My foursome had three women playing. The first group went out, with us right behind. After driving on hole 1, a man came up on a cart and requested that we let the next group of 4 "play through". He said they were very experienced golfers and may get "cranky" if we hold up play. I explained that we were an office outing, so it would require them to play through holes 1 & 2. So we waited, and then the gentleman requested a second foursome play through as well. In an effort to enjoy the day out on the course, we said ok. We waited on hole 2 for about 25 minutes or so (2 groups, 2 holes). Then we resumed play. When we hit hole 3, all of a sudden, another (cranky) gentleman approaches us and tells 2 of my ladies that he is there because he didn't want any angry golfers. He stops his cart for two holes and sits and watches us. Doesn't leave, just sits there and follows us. On hole 5, I tell my team to finish up and I approach him. I introduce myself, and ask why is he following us. He responds that the golf pro directed him to stay with us to push us through play. I explain the office outing and how we divided up the team. I also explain that after the first hole, I had been timing play and each hole was taking 9-11 minutes. I also explained I was well aware of etiquette hence playing the scramble. I also explained that we were actually playing well and were playing par or we were only one over. He became a totally jerk to me. Then I had to leave nice Kim behind and be firm and instruct him to leave. He refused but said he would leave but be in our area to ensure we would play quicker. This was infuriating at best. But we tried to brush it off. At the end, I wanted to mention something to the golf pro. I went in, by myself, and once again introduced myself and gave the same spiel. He was a total jerk to me as well. Accused us of not playing at a good enough pace and basically we shouldn't have been out there. I mentioned that our group in front of us had the same similar players, but not once were they approached. In fact, the bottleneck happened because the two foursomes we let play through held us up! We did nine holes in 2 hours, but 25 minutes was the requested wait!!!! I called the pro out and asked why he didn't have anyone sit with our first group and was it because there were two men and you saw a group of 4 ladies go out? He said he didn't see it that way and I responded, how could you, you are a man He responded that he got there around noon and saw us sitting on hole 2. I then reminded him it was because you instructed us to let the two foursomes play through!!! I have never been treated this way before. I am disgusted at this course. They should be ashamed of themselves. For the one lady in my group who is new to golf, this certainly is not a positive experience. I will never patron them again. read more

While this course has improved greatly in the past few years, what has NOT improved is the attitude of the starter/ranger who seems to enjoy harassing players. And from what I have seen on Google, I am not the first to deal with this jack off. Decided to play 9 holes last minute and we got a walk on tee time. Cool..... Mind you, I had not played this course in at least a decade. And I probably only did so once or twice. So any memory of how uneven nearly every fairway is had escaped me. Because of this lack of familiarity with the course, it did take a bit extra to figure out where to aim, what club to hit, etc. That being said, while the fairways may be uneven, both those and the greens were in good shape. Probably in better shape than many other local, municipal courses. But it is a bit unnerving to have to share such nice, if not canted fairways with a bunch of people out walking the cart paths for "exercise". However, our experience was totally soured at the very end of the round. Along with the lapse in memory with the sloping fairways, I also forgot that the front 9 finishes out in the middle of the course. With nobody in front of us, and having finally gained some distance between ourselves and a solo walker (who seemed hell bent on setting a land speed record) we thought we would play 10 and then make a left turn back to the parking lot. I literally stepped up on the 10th tee when the starter came out of nowhere and made a snide remark about playing a couple extra holes. It wasn't the fact that yes, we only paid for 9 and got nabbed trying squeeze an extra hole in. But it was the tone and manner in which we were ambushed by him. Perhaps the single sprinter had called in to complain because he felt "held up" (we literally made him wait maybe a total of 5 or at most 10 minutes total over the course of 9 holes) and that is why he showed up? I don't know. But if they had a problem, it would have been nice to know before we finished the 9th hole. For the 9 hole price with a cart, it's not worth putting up with attitude. Were we trying to play 18 for the price of 9? Hell no. But it just seemed like no big deal to take a couple extra swings on the way in from the middle of the course after finishing the first nine. Perhaps if the course was rerouted (Not sure if that is possible) they wouldn't need Judge Smails to ride around and treat people like Al Czervik. read more

This course is par with country club courses in the area maybe even better. The crew that takes care of the greens just flipped this place around. If you like speedy greens that literally are flawless its the place for you! Be prepared for a challenge! But a ton of fun. The fairways are perfect as well. It's like butter when you get that perfect shot. Highly recommend this course!!!! read more

I have a lot of fun being at the park with my kids and husband.. they fish and I take ALOT of pictures.. it's relaxing and soo much fun

Paid $42 dollars to play the golf course mid summer and I get out there and most of the greens are destroyed and the 17th hole has a temporary green. Don't go here for the rest of the season until they pay someone to properly fix the greens. Looks like a mini golf course out there. read more

Got to whole 14 and was told to pick my ball up and move to the next hole. Place is a joke. I also got no warning. Was having a great round. People behind me were hitting from the seniors. I don't want to be rushed when I'm play golf. This place is a fucking joke. read more

Great little park. A lot to do. Playground. Golf. Sprinklers for the kids. Tennis. Free tennis lessons for all ages. More need to utilize this park. read more

They should not be charging full price for this course... Greens are the WORST in the Capital Region! Bunkers are just as bad Tee boxes need to be trimmed Ugh And they were taking the flags out to close the course for no apparent reason at 5pm Sunday, 75 degrees and sunny out...needs new management read more
