To be completely honest, I was nervous about having reconstructive breast surgery done in a smaller town. I kept thinking maybe I should go to Austin or Dallas because surely I'd find a better surgeon there. I could not have been more wrong. From the very first phone call, I knew this office was different. When I called, I explained to the receptionist that I knew one of my implants had been ruptured for quite some time. Instead of making me wait weeks for an appointment, she made sure I got in to see Dr. Lee the very next week. That meant so much to me and set the tone for everything that followed. Every single person I met was kind, caring, and made me feel like I truly mattered. From the front office and scheduling staff to the nurses and surgical team, everyone treated me with such compassion. I never felt like I was just another patient. Then came surgery... What was supposed to be a breast reduction and implant replacement turned into a much more complicated reconstructive surgery. Dr. Lee discovered that one implant had ruptured, and the other had significant internal scar tissue and adhesions that required a tremendous amount of meticulous reconstructive work. Knowing now what he found during surgery makes me appreciate his skill even more. The final result is absolutely beautiful. For the first time in over twelve years, I finally feel like me again. What also impressed me was how up-to-date Dr. Lee is. He isn't a doctor who simply does things the way they've always been done. He stays current with the latest advancements to help his patients heal, including therapies like healing peptides, which no other doctor had ever discussed with me before. It was reassuring to know I was receiving care from someone who is always learning and looking for better ways to care for his patients. And the care didn't stop after surgery. I've honestly never experienced anything like it. If I had a question, someone was there. If I had a concern, they answered it. There was even a time I reached out around 2:00 in the morning, expecting to leave a message until morning... and someone actually responded. Who does that anymore? Dr. Lee's team does. They made me feel safe. They made me feel cared for. They made me feel like I wasn't going through this alone. I've had other cosmetic procedures over the years, and I can honestly say this has been, by far, the best medical experience I've ever had. This actually led to a missed dose of my medication at one point, something I've never experienced at any other hospital. Worst of all, pain management and education after my C-section was awful. I was left in severe pain for over 8 hours and treated like I was a drug addict. It wasn't until my body was literally shaking from pain that the nurses were suddenly allowed to give me something more than ibuprofen and Tylenol. I couldn't wait to leave. To start, the office staff is incredibly rude, doesn't care that the lobby is a literal ice box and won't bother to tell you that the doctor has up and left for the afternoon, despite your appointment or the fact that you've been sitting in the lobby for hours waiting. I'm going to be upfront about the treatment I received here. As a sexual assault survivor, I have a lot of anxiety with exams. I picked Womankind hopefully. After undressing and changing into a gown that barely covers me, I was told that I would need a sonogram first. The nurses had me walk in a paper gown through the hallway to the room. They said no one was in the hall, but we're all girls anyway. Upon entering, I was received by a nurse and two med students. I WAS NOT ASKED FOR CONSENT, but rather pressured to allow them to remain in the room. There is a big difference between asking, "Do you feel comfortable with allowing our medical students view your sonogram?" and pressuring someone while on the table and with students in the room. "They can be here right?? They just want to see the screen." Already feeling my anxiety spike, I said yes to get it over with. It wasn't until I consented, that they proceeded to tell me I was getting a vaginal sonogram. Afterward, I had to walk back across to my exam room in my now disintegrating gown The doctor came in with a med student and did not ask me if it was okay for her to be there. She began my exam, making very rude comments about my body. I came to see her for answers to a rare genetic/reproductive disorder that makes me self conscious as it is. Smirking at patients as you flick their nipples and make jokes about how they have the body of a 15 year old (with an assistant and medical student in the room) is extremely inappropriate and unprofessional! (She made this joke multiple times and is unfortunately not the first gynecologist to do so!-another reason why I've been hesitant to seek help) During my vaginal exam, I felt a lot of pain. My anxiety was already through the roof. I held back tears and concerns about the pain until it was too much. She seemed bothered that I even voiced my concern, stopped and said, "Pain or discomfort??" as I held my breath, trying to discern the two. "Pain?? or DISCOMFORT??" as she continued moving her hand. Honestly I have no idea if it was even the doctor or the student who did this. They were standing on either side of me and I couldn't see. I wanted to cry and for all of this to end, so I quickly said discomfort to which she made a "no shit" type of expression. She nodded, repeating "Discomfort." She smacked my belly, saying said she couldn't feel my uterus under all my "fluff." On my next visit, I was given the results of my pap smear. I tried to inquire about some separate health concerns, but I couldn't get a word in. Dr. Daley rattled off facts about one of my diagnoses in a hurried manner-as if she'd done it thousands of times and any question I had was outright dumb or not worth listening to. She kept assuming I was asking questions about my diagnosis and I wasn't. Finally, I broke down in frustration and though she changed her tone slightly, she still didn't understand. She thought I was overcome with emotion or something by my diagnosis (which wasn't even a bad one). Had she actually listened to me, she would have known otherwise. One of the med students decided to randomly waltz into the room during this moment and I asked her to give me privacy. The assistant in the room offered me tissue and asked if I would also like her to leave. Dr. Daley snapped at her, asking why she'd leave when she's supposed to be there to notate. Dr. Daley had put me on a trial medicine and asked me to return for a follow up. No one knew why I was there and I had to push to be seen. There was no continuity or treatment plan. The PA was clueless. I still don't have answers and haven't mustered up the courage to seek help again.
