Today was my second time going to this salon. I had last gone there on December 22nd, and since I waited so long, a couple of my nails fell off and one had broken while cleaning - my fault! It was my first time having acrylics, and I overestimated how long I could keep them on. Oops. I am not sure of his name, but both times, my manicurist was a man. Not Oscar (who is incredibly friendly and welcoming), but the man a bit older than him. Both times, my manicurist has been so professional and has done an amazing job. When I went to the salon today, I was embarrassed that I had lost a couple of my nails and that one was broken; however, he simply said to "be careful" so I don't hurt my nails again - I didn't feel ashamed at all after that. He just reapplied them. The broken nail was in pain and I thought it would hurt today, but he swiftly fixed it as though he were a doctor putting on a bandage. Also, since this was my first ever "fill-in," I didn't really know what to expect and was nervous. But he did a perfect job, and now I understand the process - he did everything so thoughtfully and carefully - so I won't feel nervous next time. Anyway, I just wanted to say this is a great salon. They pay so much attention to detail and what the customer wants. Also, I hope to learn my manicurist's name next time, because he has been so professional and great both times. Thank you! Whenever I needed a quick set of acrylics I would come here , never again after my last appointment . I do not remember the woman's name she sits 3 desk down from where the bathroom is . Anyway she put my nail on completely crooked I asked her very politely too take it off and put a new one on she told me no it's fine I said no it's not please take the nail off and just put a new one I am paying for my nails ( I work in the service industry ) as I stated to her if I'm paying my hard earned money I expect to like the results . After 5 minutes of us going back and fourth that she did not want too take it off she proceeded too rip the nail off causing half of my real nail to go with it. I guess because I look young she thought that she could get over on me ! Right then and there I should have gotten up and left but I had a last minute event that night and I didn't want too go with ratty nails !! She filed my nails so aggressively that my real now is now lifting up !!!! I wanted too take the acrylics off as soon as the event was over but I was too nervous too mess with my nails anymore so yesterday as I was cleaning 1 of my nails cracked I figured it was time too take the rest of them off and OH MY the nail that she ripped of and then filed like a crazy person is lifted so bad i don't no what too do it's going to eventually fall off never in my life have I been treated that way by anyone especially someone that I am paying to do a service !!!!!! Not one manager or the owner came to ask me if everything was okay even after I made a scene when she literally ripped my nail off !! Shame on that woman and shame on this place save your money oh and the pedicure was terrible too no massage she wasn't going to clean under my nails until I asked her too !! The pedicures all include a really nice long foot massage which is the best part and for a very decent price! This is my holy grail of nail salons. It's not the closest to my house but I've been going here probably 8-10 years now. Wendy (the owner) is the sweetest woman in the world and will treat all her customers like PEOPLE, not just a factory of people going in and getting shooed out. I love Danielle, Christine, and Jack(? I know it starts with a J! The only male one there). They are such sweet people and the prices are really really low. My only gripe is that their nail polish will NOT last long, so bring your own nail colors. Otherwise, I love this place. I'll always be coming to them for as long as I'm in Staten Island. I got a recommendation with technician Michelle, and I could not be happier. My appointment was scheduled for 12:30 on a Saturday; I arrived at 12:15 and they saw me right away. I have been coming to this salon for the past 10+ years, I absolutely love this salon and can recommend Mae/Windy. I have had a pleasant experience with everyone expect one employee (Jackie- the male nail tech). Everytime I've entered the salon I'm greeted by a mostly pleasant staff, but when you turn to the corner you have Jackie giving you a cold, solemn glare. I'm a decent tipper, in my mind, I tip $10 hands&$10 feet but no matter what I've tipped it's never seemed to be enough for him. I went to him a few times in the past (because of walking in, but I refuse to go to him now because he is so disrespectful). I could go into stories about Jackie encounters, but I don't want to talk down this salon. They're amazing, I would recommend everyone besides this one tech. read more

I have been coming here for years and love it...however, today's a different story. I had an appointment with ANNIE for a manicure pedicure at 4:15. Another lady took me for my manicure (which is fine she did a great job!), while waiting for my nails to dry, I noticed that ANNIE began another lady's pedicure at 4:45. I asked for someone else to take me for my pedicure but they said I would have to wait. I said I can't wait which I why I made the appointment. Generally, I wouldn't mind waiting (especially if I didn't have an appointment), but today is not the last day. I shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes between my manicure to get a pedicure with an appointment. I asked for my money back for the pedicure...with no resistance or apology, he gave me my pedicure money back followed up with "I only charged you $9 for a manicure" to which I replied "yes, because a manicure is $9". Came here for a pedicure and a powder gel mani. The pedicure was actually really good. No complaints there. Clean, neat, and relaxing. The problems started with the manicure. First, they had me soaking my fingers to remove the previous polish for 40 mins. They were super busy so they mostly ignored me. Finally they called me to a station. The color I wanted turns out to be depleted. Ok I chose another. The lady did a terrible job and kept laughing how she's scared to mess it up again. Yes, she messed it up twice and had to reapply the top coat and dry...twice! I spent 3 hours in there, and in the end I hate my manicure: waste of time and money. read more

Awful. I use to go there all the time when I was younger so when I decided for once I didn't want to do my own nails I went into the salon, getting sat quick wasn't the issue. I picked my color and the lady began my manicure..she cut my nails all uneven. Didn't put any lotion on my hands or massage them like most salons do.. It was crystal clear that I needed my cuticle's cut but she didn't do that either. At this point I was just aggravated and wanted to be done so I paid an extra dollar for the quick dry for my nails. There was a huge gap of paint between my nail bed and my finger because she didn't cut the cuticle.. the quick dry..never dried. Usually quick dry is dry the moment it goes on and I usually put my fingers under for 5 minutes just to make sure they're perfect but this quick dry had me sitting for 30 minutes and still not dry..I gave up and left, the next day the polish was chipping off. I was going here for a while since it was so close to my house. I had an appointment with Christene for tips and gel mani but when I got there she was doing someone else. I said I would wait until she was done but they told me no just go to Vicky. I went to Vicky and she was extremely rude. She kept pulling my hand roughly and at one point even hit my hand. Like what is the point of that? Then once she has the electric buffer tool she begins to shape my nail so thin on the sides that I begin bleeding on both sides. And not just regular bleeding, like almost gushing blood. She buffed too thin that the skin underneath the nail bed was exposed. You think that she would stop buffing and maybe wait for the bleeding to stop, but nope. She just continued to buff and 3 other fingers started bleeding in the process. To have to pay 40+ dollars for 4 of my nails to be bleeding and actually be in pain anytime my finger brushed against something for days after was really disappointing. read more

I'd give five stars, but the prices have gone up so much over the years (I get it, prices will go up through the years), BUT the reason I always loved this place was because it was at least slightly cheaper than other nail places on the island. That isn't really the case anymore. Anyway, I could never stray from here because Wendy is my girl! She knows me, my mom, and both my sisters by name and always asks about how the rest of us are doing if we aren't all together. She really is a great business owner and sweet person. The wait can be long on the weekends because it isn't huge in there, but they typically move fast so it's never too unbearable. Great color selection, professional staff, and overall a solid mani/pedi. My sister and mom even get their eyebrows done here and like it a lot. Have to say my daughter loves this place I don't I've been here twice spent over an hour waiting and they always say they messed up my appointment. They are very unorganized. Not a place to go if you just need a plain old mani pedi they are terrible. So I have never had any work done here. My daughter gets these crazy long fill in nails it's reasonable priced I guess if you like to be treated like crap I will not be going back here and I will pay the extra money for my girl to go else where. They are very clean and are very great at manicure/pedi/waxes. There's usually a wait, so I suggest to call ahead of time and make an appointment. Wendy, the owner is a very giggly and happy woman. She greats each and every customer that walks in the door by name. The other woman that do nails are also amazing! Some of the woman there take a long time to do your nails but it's only because they're trying to make them perfect and the way you want. I've gone in with funky designs that I've found on Pintrest (and some are very difficult) and they are very happy to do it. Worst pedicure I ever had. They use plastic to cover the pedicure tub and u can't even feel like bubbles on your feet. They rush through and don't even scrub the calluses off your feet enough. 5 stars hands down. The best nail salon I ever went to. It's nothing fancy, but the women are absolutely kind and respectful to everyone who walks in. I go to Michele and she is the sweetest nail lady. I've been religiously going for 5 years. Wendy is a doll too. My nails always look good. I am a chronic nail biter and they are so understanding when I come strolling in asking for a new set. Lol. I also have very weak nails when I am not biting them and my tips always stay. Highly recommend. Prices low. They are sanitary, clean, and follow NY laws rigorously. I honestly never had any issues to get an appointment. At the holidays, they recognize clients, which is nice because they acknowledge US holidays when they aren't obviously first generation US residents. That's a telltale sign when you arrive you see all the holiday cards displayed from many happy clients. Call ahead for an appointment as it does get hectic. But you will NEVER feel rushed or uncomfortable. It has a neighborhood feel and the staff is highly engaged with their clients. What else can you ask for from a local business? The owner Windy is so nice, the man Jack is quiet but also very nice. They treat you so well. Vicky does my nails and she's a perfectionist, but the girl who sits next to her Yen, is also very good, but make an appointment because they are busy. But from what I can see, all the women there have regulars and are very busy, so I don't think it matters who you go to. Everyone is so nice, unlike most of the other nail places, you don't feel like they're talking about you in their language. The parking situation is tough, but its worth it. Its a small place, so when you first go in you're not sure about it, but then you will see, everyone is talking and happy, the places is lively and they make you feel comfortable and welcome. They work with you when picking out a color, or matching a gel color to a regular one for your toes, or if you need a repair, or you mess one of your nails, very helpful and patient, they try to accommodate you in every way, unlike some other salons that just don't. Give it a try, you will love your nails. I'm a stickler and I always love mine. I get gel on my toes as well, and its worth it, they stay perfect until you take it off. I was going on vacation, broke one of my nails while packing, it was about five days after I had them done, so I went back in, and windy fixed it for free ?? they refused to let me pay or tip, I was blown away by that, no other salon would have done that, maybe the same day but not days later.
