I'm not always big on Asian-fusion but Mercado-Nikkei does it right. I love the menu style, which allows you to try many different dishes that can be shared even amongst two people. There's a large selection of different food items including various appetizers, sushi, skewers, fried rice and much more. The interior of the restaurant hasn't changed; still eccentric with pops of color and patterns. The only change was to the kitchen- if I'm not mistaken, they hired a new executive chef. It's now the perfect blend of latin american (mainly peruvian) and Japanese. The food isn't as heavy as it used to be but still has very strong flavors- a good combo of sweet, savory, spicy and sour. Service is still pretty friendly and I feel like food also comes out faster than it used to. Their complementary chips come with these crispy, quite interesting and tasty corn kernals that are incorporated into some of their other dishes too. Their short rib nigiri and ceviche were both bomb. Skewers were a little less impressive. Salad and fried rice were both solid. For dessert I got the Machu Maccha, which was essentially tres leches with a hint of maccha- it was good but I'd probably go for something else next time. Overall the change to Mercado was definitely positive, although I will miss the more authentic peruvian Mercado too. It's a great mid-range restaurant for a nice dinner date that. So if you like latin american and japanese cuisine, definitely check this place out.

Picked a day, placed a reservation online, all went smooth. Arrived there and enjoyed the early-evening quietness. Mercado is a large place, located where you could previously find Indochine. After looking through the available options, we went for the 10 course tasting menu. It featured everything from fish to meat to salad. Ready to rock! The dishes were prepared well. They looked stunning, and the staff serving us always explained what we were actually looking at. Some very interesting combinations, and some things that we didn't eat before. Each course is pretty small, so don't worry about the 10 courses. We ate through various fish themes courses, almost always combined with some spicy stuff, some very well made nacho chips and arrived at the main dishes. After 5 or so dishes, things in service started to become less smooth. First, the waiter apologized that he had swapped some course, which we didn't even notice, as honestly, we didn't have a clue anymore where we were in the 10 course. Then, as we were expecting a main dish, we were served a dessert. Another waited hissed a brisk remark to our server to move those away, as it wasn't right yet. After that, we got another main dish. We finished that, and we were asked how we liked the menu so far. All was kind of OK which we said so. Having had our eyes on the dessert, which is for us frequently, the Grande Finale, we were waiting for this. As it became apparent that this wouldn't show up without asking for it, the waiter acted really surprised about it. As a result, he didn't show up at our table then anymore, but left us to his colleagues. We finished our meal, asked for payment and left. All major credit cards accepted by the way. All in all, the feeling was kind of mixed. The food was generally good, even if some of the 10 courses weren't really our favorites. It could have been a bit tastier here and there. However, the service really causes that I've got to remove a star here: mix up of course, forgotten dessert, we've been served I think by at least 5 people, and I would suggest putting a mini version of the menu on the table for the guests to refer back to. I would really recommend to smooth out service a bit and the restaurant would get a solid 4 stars!

Just arriving at Vienna for the first time, I was actually hoping to eat traditional Vienna food but was too tired to look for anything else, walked in to the first restaurant I spotted. Since they just opened for the day (around 4pm), no other customers were here. I kept thinking initially why am I eating Spanish Tapas in Austria? Why we are the only one here? As soon as I started talking to a server, my concern wasn't there anymore. A server was from Spain and he spoke Spanish and English with me. He took time to explained about the menu. I quickly spotted one of my favorite wine and happily waited for my food. The kitchen was located next to the dinning area (open kitchen), I started smelling squid, garlic, ... My anticipation for the food grew as I patiently waited for my food. Tapas for two was £30, and just about right amount of food for two of us. Thinking back, compared to some Austrian food served during my short stay, portion size may seem small, but as Spanish tapas, portion served was just right (I thought..). I ended up having two glasses of Spanish wine, food and wine paired perfectly. Tapas for two comes with five different hot tapas. Trying to think which one was favorite, I think shrimp with garlic. Free wifi, which is always nice for out of the country visitors like me. Nice decor, playing football on TV, I felt like I was in Spain, so after La Cuenta, por favor, I walked out with satisfied tummy, I looked around the buildings to remember I was still in Austria.

As two vegans, we tried the only two vegan dished on the menu. The place is very small and overshadowed by Hard Rock Cafe but as it branded itself as a high-end​ place (and since there are 2 well established Middle-Eastern restaurant within a 50 meters radius) we were both happy to try it out. The place itself was clean and nicely designed. 2 cooks were in the tiny kitchen and a guest having a wrap of some sort sat in one of the 2 available tables. I wouldn't want to eat there since its a bit cramped (though air-conditioned​) but we didn't plan to anyway. We ordered a falafel in pita (which they named bastard for some unknown reason) and a vegan pasta dish. we waited for the food for about 10m which is very reasonable​. Personally, i don't like it when i feel that restaurants pay too much attention to the packaging- the paper box in which the pasta was and the bag in which the pasta box was placed looked above and beyond any takeaway box i've ever seen before. Very very fancy- like shopping for a tie in Ralf Lauren or a bag in Chanel (see pics). I would have preferred a simpler, environmentally​ friendly packaging which won't make me feel like i've paid for the over fancy packaging rather than the food itself. The falafel was nice but nothing special. The pita was considerably smaller and not as good as the ones you get in "hungry guy" or "Miznon" just down the street. Also, it was half open and toasted​ which isn't the Middle Eastern style rather than the European adaptation. You won't find such a pita in Sababa, maschu maschu or the 2 nicer restaurants​ i've mentioned before. It wasn't bad but i could have gotten a much larger and nicer pita filled with different salats and not only lettuce​ and sauce in sababa/maschu maschu. I would have also paid less for it. The pasta was, though, the biggest disappointment​. I've never heard of this dish so i can't tell you for sure it's not authentic but it was definitely​ a disappointment. The presentation was terrible- inside the super fancy box was simple take away box with the pasta. It looked terrible (see pic attached) very underwhelming, especially​ after expectation rose by the fancy packaging. Portion​ size was ok, but the pasta was so dull and plain that i didn't want to eat it at all, not to mention finish it. As expensive as a dish in a sit-down​ restaurant i expected bread, salat, sauce- basically what you get if you order any of the other plate dishes here. The pasta was a strange mix of rice, pasta, lentils, tomato sauce​ and fried onion. Why would i need rice and pasta in the same dish?? the sauce wasn't creamy or smooth or nice and there were absolutely no veggis involved, just plain, tasteless​ carbs. no spices whatsoever and very little sauce. Dry and tasteless​. With a bill of 17.5 euros for a small falafel pita, one pasta dish and a beer- (which was more expensive than​ the same one in the next door pub!) and another euro tip it was just a huge disappointment. Plain, dull, overpriced food. I was left unsatisfied​, hungry for a nice fresh vegetable (such as those in Miznon), some spicy Middle Easern salats (like in maschu maschu or sababa) or the best pita's in town like those in hungry guy. I hope other people had better luck. I won't be coming back.

I would certainly visit here again when craving a bit more of an upscale, healthy falafel takeaway. It is pricier than competitor falafel options nearby, but is less greasy and contains salad rather than rice/chips in addition to hummus and is served in nice packaging, so the pricepoint makes sense, in my opinion.

I think the food contained some flavor enhancer which I wasn't handling too well but that's just me being very sensitive to them. Overall the atmosphere was warm and friendly. (Gotta love a good ole long line). It's a great fast food spot middle eastern/lebanese food spot. We got the falafel wrap and it was delicious. I do wish it had slightly more of a sauce or that I would've ordered an additional sauce on the side. The only thing that needed some help was the fries, they needed to be a bit more crispy. Other than that, great spot for ordering takeout and sitting outside and people watching. Enjoyed my falafel wrap with awesome music. Large enough to share!

Customer service not fit for a Lebanese establishment. After they gave they were reluctant to give…read morethe costumer in front of me a ketchup packet, and gave him hard time before giving him a 2nd one. I wanted to try it myself and see if this is done to all customers or only that unruly customer. sure enough, they gave me one packet after asking for it, but refused to give a 2nd one claiming that those instructions came straight from the owner. However, they did offer to give me a second packet, after I told them that I want to return the food, which I refused to take. Lebanese people are known for their generosity and good manners towards people and especially their visitors. they are also known for being smart business people. As a Lebanese, I urge the owner to remove anything related to Lebanon or change your employees' attitude towards your customers. A one packet of ketchup is not adequately enough for a bowl of French fries. You can add the price of the 3-4 ketchup packets in the menu. Apparently customers are not happy. For god's sake, it's only ketchup!! Should people bring their own condiments bottles when they eat out nowadays?!
