The food experience here was amazing.
The expression "flavor explosion" applied to every one of the five courses. This is a small restaurant with about ten tables, a maximum occupancy of forty and a set price menu. Each item was something I never would have thought to order, but was fabulous. The owner and chef was the head chef at another restaurant that was Michelin starred and started this place in 2021. The prep work is done in full view of the diners, but the stove and ovens are in back. The owner said he designed it this way because he likes his chefs to talk to the diners. The staff's English was all excellent and they seem to enjoy discussing what they had prepared. About half the clientele appeared to be regulars.
Lunch was five courses with two appetizers comprising the first course. The portions are very small so we do not feel over fed by the end of the meal, but felt pleasantly full.
We showed up without a reservation for lunch on a Friday and the staff was very sweet to squeeze us in. We waited about a half hour. Reservations are therefore recommended. My two favorite courses were the appetizers and the dessert. I don't even know what was in one of the appetizers, but I know I want another one! The dessert featured basil ice cream (was not on my bucket list of flavors to try) and locally sourced raspberries. It was so good that my non-dessert eating husband was raving about it. Another course had deep fried quinoa at the base - again another food item I had not thought to covet, but my mouth loved it!
Plan to spend at least two hours - this is an event. We stopped by when our cruise ship docked in Gothenburg and we're not aware of the timing so we asked for our check when dessert and coffee were delivered. (The coffee was to die for - I usually don't like acidic coffees, but this was so light that it was a pleasure to drink!)
The restaurant is a thirty minute walk from the where the cruise ship bus dropped us off (Gustav Adolfs Torg) but half of the walk is through a cute outdoor shopping district (Haga). We were the only non-Swedish speakers in the restaurant when we were there for lunch.
The prices are very reasonable considering the quality. My prediction is that the prices will increase in the next few years. We paid about $50 U.S. per person for a five course lunch plus alcohol.
My husband who leans more toward the "dog and fries" end of the food spectrum said this lunch was his favorite part of our trip so far. If are willing to spend $50 per person for an extraordinary food experience during lunch time, stop by! read more
