If you're looking for high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Conejo Valley, AKXE Academy is the gold…read morestandard. I've been training for years and currently hold a brown belt, and I can say without reservation that this is one of the most technical and welcoming environments I've ever stepped into. The Instruction Professor Rodrigo Carvalho is a world-class leader. His lineage and technical depth are incredible, but what really sets him apart is his ability to teach. He breaks down complex movements into high-percentage details that work for everyone--whether you're a world-class competitor or a 40-something hobbyist like myself. You aren't just "shown" moves; you're taught the underlying mechanics and strategy. The Culture One of the biggest hurdles in BJJ is finding a gym that is challenging but ego-free. AKXE nails this. The "family-first" atmosphere is real. Everyone on the mats--from the white belts to the upper ranks--is supportive and looks out for one another. As someone balancing a professional career and family life, I appreciate that I can get a hard, technical training session in without the "meathead" culture you find at other spots. The Facility The academy is always immaculate. The mats are clean, the space is well-ventilated, and the entire facility is maintained to a very high standard. It's clear they take pride in the environment they provide for their students. Whether you're looking to start your journey from scratch or you're an experienced practitioner looking for a home in Agoura Hills, this is the place. Five stars all day. Rating: 5 Stars Highly Recommended for: Technical BJJ, hobbyists, professionals, and families.

Professor Rodrigo and professor Fabian are compassionate, patient, mindful, endearing, kind and caring, especially with younger children who can be a handful. They gave my child so much confidence, a sense of community, an understatement to say they are the true champions of martial arts! We are glad to have found Akxe academy and cannot recommend the professors enough ! This is as good as it gets, we will keep going forever! Thank you professor Rodrigo and professor Fabian for all the effort you put in with my son. We are grateful to have found you!

Conejo Valley Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been such a blessing for our family…read more My son started training here back in 2018 when he was about 7 years old. In the beginning he went kind of sporadically maybe once a week for quite some time . One day something clicked. Over time he truly fell in love with jiu-jitsu, and the growth we've seen in him has been amazing. It's helped him with discipline, structure, confidence, physical fitness, and overall fun . He hasn't just made friends here , it's family here . After seeing how much our son loved it, my husband joined too, and it has completely transformed his life. His physical health has drastically changed. He's gone from 300 pounds to 190 pounds , he has gained so much strength, focus, and confidence. Both my husband and son now compete in tournaments, and getting to watch them do tournaments together has been one of the most incredible experiences. This dojo is family oriented. The coaches, and the entire environment are supportive, encouraging, and uplifting. We are beyond grateful for Conejo Valley Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place that feels like home while helping you become your best self .

It feels funny to even write a "review" of this place because I don't really see it as a business…read more It's a community. It's where I hang out with my friends and push myself to grow. The gym runs so seamlessly that you forget it is a business at all. There's no sales pitch, no pressure -- Emerson's attitude is simple: if you want to train here, great. If not, that's fine too. But honestly, I can't imagine not wanting to be here. This is a place built for personal growth. You can ask questions, learn, teach, and push your limits. Even though it's live combat training, I've never felt unsafe -- everyone looks out for each other. The environment strikes the perfect balance: serious training without ego or "meathead" energy. Newer students are guided carefully, while higher belts have plenty of challenge and opportunity to compete. Emerson is an encyclopedia of jiu-jitsu -- deeply experienced and connected to Rey Diogo, one of the original Carlson Gracie black belts who helped bring jiu-jitsu to the U.S. Rey visits often, and that lineage and spirit are alive in the gym. The space itself is big, clean, and professional -- not a dingy fight club, not a strip-mall karate studio. It's polished but real, built for people who want to train seriously and improve. The kids' program deserves special mention. It's run by actual practitioners -- people who love the art and want to help kids grow, not hired staff clocking in. Jeff, Gerson, Vince and Emerson have a gift for teaching kids discipline and confidence without pressure. Visitors and drop-ins are always welcome, and there's zero politics about cross-training -- we actually encourage learning from other gyms. If you're looking for a place that's as genuine as the art itself -- where people train hard, respect each other, and grow together -- this is it.

To be clear, this is not just a Martial Art. It is a Self Defense form. My son has an older friend (by a year) that does BJJ and swears he can beat my son - sometimes being over-assertive while wrestling around to prove it. My son just tells him, "I can beat you, but I don't need to." This program attests to that response. He is not cocky, just confident. A healthy mix of "Don't start anything, there won't be anything" with a little "F around and find out". This is a great feeling for a pre-teen to have as they enter adolescence. Quiet confidence. Another review sums up Hezi's style well. A unique mix of "karate (kicking/punching) to judo (throws/joint manipulation) to Krav Maga (Israeli street fighting) to [Hisardut] disarming an assailant with a gun/knife/bat." My son is not trained to do katas or a series of gestures and moves. He is trained to avoid a fight, and disengage from a fight if backed into one - by any means necessary. He does not seek a fight. What makes this place even more special are people like Sasha and Ethan. I have had so many supportive and healthy conversations with Ethan (front desk support), that he makes it enjoyable to walk into the building. He makes it enjoyable to walk up to him and say Hi. You are not inconveniencing him... Sasha might be the secret ingredient here. My son is a better young man because of her specifically. She always has the kindest words of support and encouragement for him. Do yourself a favor: Try this place; and then try it again. You won't be disappointed.

There's so much good stuff that could be said about "Regan's Martial Arts" that it's hard to review without sounding like a Fanboy. First of all Dan is an unassuming all round great guy from the east coast. He has vast knowledge of many styles and believes in building on the skills and experience you come to class with. If you're a boxer or BJJ expert, no problem. Bring that skill to class and he'll show you how to compliment what you know with Kali or Wing Chun or Muay Thai etc. For those who don't know, Kali/Escrima is a style from South East Asia that emphasizes weapon-based fighting. It is not exactly in the mainstream like BJJ, MMA or other Karate type arts. The empty-hand techniques also taught in these styles translate directly to weapons-based techniques. You'll have to see it to know what I mean. Classes are fairly small, new comers are welcomed. They rent space from a plush Karate dojo so most of the time training is indoors despite the pics on Yelp. I recommend you bring your own MMA style gloves. If you don't have all the cool toys when you arrive for the first few time you can borrow sticks or training knives from one of the students. We're all very friendly. The monthly fee is absolutely worth it and there is a drop in fee to "try out" the class. If there is a bad thing to say it is only that I wish I had heard of Dan's classes 10 years ago.

I feel like I'm growing leaps and bounds with his training. Whether you're a black belt, or just beginning, I couldn't recommend Sensei Dan more.

Is it clean? Is it safe? These were the first two questions my BJJ buddy asked me about Morumbi…read morewhen I told him we were trying it out. He is a brown belt and has plenty of experience at various academies. Those were his critical pass/fail criteria questions. And the answer is emphatically YES to both of them. Our kids were first to join at about 5 and 7 yrs old. The professors and coaches make it very welcoming for new people. They ensure that new students are purposefully placed with other students. And the quality instruction from the professors and coaches is so valuable. Each class is usually started or ended by repeating core values and keys to success in life. Next my wife and I joined. Our dream is to have this be a family affair. I could never have dreamed how well my wife took to it. There is a large group (also close knit group) or women who attend. A couple years ago my wife never heard of BJJ, and now she can't stand to miss a day of jiu jitsu class or the kettlebell class. If you are worried about egos and people just smashing on you, then fear not. Professor Fabio protects the students and his academy from anyone just trying to hurt others. That being said, it is jiu Jitsu and it is designed to be used in real life. But the overall feel is a "family" environment and that is cultivated from the top down. It is a perfect place to learn and grow in BJJ. If you have any questions, be sure to talk to Coco who wears many hats at Morumbi. She is amazing and my kids absolutely love her. We love this academy and all the friendships we've already made. My wife and kids are exponentially growing not only in skill but in confidence, positivity and happiness.

However, that is not the case at all, in order to qualify for a full refund you have to go at least 2x a week for the entire month and have to give a 30 day notice in order to not be charged full price for the 2nd month. Here's the thing, how could you possibly give a 30 day notice before the second month renewal if 30 days prior to that would be the day you first started? How could you possibly know you aren't going to continue there if you are just starting?? They charged me full price for an entire month when my son didn't attend not once. When I pointed out it would have been impossible to give a total 30 days notice they only offered to credit the account for "when my son returns". What makes you think I would go back to an establishment that is robbing people?! Don't go here, the prices are wayyyy overpriced and there are better options available in the area with businesses that don't steal your hard earned money.
