Ive had it with this business. 6 years ago they would make my 'custom' flag whenever i came in to design it- (i designed 3) Since then ive been dealing with an individual named 'tim' this mf absolutely does NOT get anything documented. Over a year and a half and my flag hasnt been produced. Im literally done. (I paid a deposit) WHEN they make the flaf it can be good. Otherwise dont expect them to contact you or even get the flag made. Seriously this 'tim' mf is a joke -edit- I went back to talk to matt and he said he couldn't produce the flag. Dad and son seem to operate Humphry's. Son picks his daughter up at school. If Dad hasn't gotten back from lunch, the front door is locked. It took a couple of tries to connect. They answered my phone calls and emails with questions on size. Even had a discussion about the new Martinique flag. They love flags. If this was in a small town, you would be thrilled. I am thrilled anyway. I received my U.S. flag for my boat and know it will last quite a few years in the harsh sun of the Southern Caribbean. read more

Don't trust this shop with your hard earned dollars I have been waiting three months for my order. I went to Philly for a history conference and couldn't help but visit the Betsy Ross House. When I got there, I saw this flag shop and thought I'd pick something up. Went in, made a custom order for shipping, paid in full for the cost of the order, and was told that it would be done in 5-8 days but that I'd receive an email soon to confirm details. This was on July 23rd--it is now October 16th and I have not received my flag. I have sent emails, called, left voicemails, even spoken with someone who told me they'd figure out what was going on and call me back. No call backs, no responses to my emails, and no one picks up the phone now. I don't know whether they saw me as some dummy out-of-towner who wouldn't be able to go back to the shop and demand my money back, but regardless it has been nearly three months since my "5-8 days" estimate was given and I have nothing to show for the money I gave them. Maybe if you're local to Philadelphia and have the time and opportunity to stop in to make sure they follow through with your order there won't be any issues, but otherwise I massively discourage anyone from doing business here. read more

Visited recently with a tween who is very, very into flags. Based on some of the photos and reviews I told them not to get their hopes up and that we would go check it out and hope for the best. Well, this kid was in flag heaven! Matt let us know he was there but mostly let us wander through the store and rummage through all the drawers and piles of flags. When we had questions, Matt was there with answers. We told him we were going to walk the Parkway to look at the flags (which Humphrys provides) and Matt even gave us some trivia and things to look for. When it was time to check out the total was a little surprising since nothing is tagged/priced, but it is a family business in a very expensive part of town, so it is what it is. I ordered a flag and never received it. I left numerous voice-mails for the owner, Matt. He returned my call once but after that, went dark. I wasn't able to get a response via their website and they have no email, only a phone number. I'm disappointed that a company that says they "strive to ensure customer satisfaction in every step of our process" finds it OK to just not fulfill an order nor provide an opportunity to refund or rectify the situation. read more

I visited Humphrys to pick up a USA flag for the World Cup. Little did I know the treat I was in for. Matt, the proprietor, is a wonderful, friendly person with extensive knowledge of flags and their symbology. He is also a great person to talk to about political and social reconciliation post-conflict (he has a degree in political science), art (he is a practicing artist, and his work is present in the shop), and all manner of other topics. The shop is a riot of flags and banners, many of which they make themselves. Look for the 1994 World Cup flag, a vintage Soviet flag, and an elegant flag of a ballerina that he designed and screened himself. I highly recommend a stop by, even just to see the wares and have a lovely chat with Matt. If you need a flag or banner, support a local, family-owned business and go to Humphrys! read more

Never open when I visit. Can't contact via phone (no answer), doesn't answer email. Appears they aren't actually in operation.

Ordered a custom banner, sent in the vector artwork, was told that it would probably be done in 10 business days and that Matt would send me the details for my order. I have called every. single. day. since then and only ever been connected to receptionists, who inform me that Matt is "out" and promise to ask Matt to contact me. Spoiler alert: Matt has not, in fact, contacted me, nor picked up when I call his cell phone. 10 days later, I have no banner for our high-profile event this weekend. I contacted the Fedex in Willow Grove instead and learned that they print custom banners with a - wait for it - 24hr turnaround time. Thank goodness for Fedex. Please do not waste your time on Humphry's. Call the good people at Fedex and get your flag made right. read more

I went to the store looking for an Israeli flag, unfortunately it seemed like they were completely sold out but the clerk looked through every last shelf and even called the owner until he found one left. It wasn't the size that I wanted and just over my price range, Im a college student on a strict budget. I really appreciated the work he put in so I decided to buy a small, vintage flag from my home state. While ringing me in he noticed an Israeli flag hanging on a clothes line in the store. He took down the line to give me the flag, which was originally not for sale. After realizing it was slightly damaged he let me have it for free. Never have I had better customer service in my life. I am so appreciative that I created a yelp account just to give proper credit to this store and thank them for the experience. I finally made it into Humphrys and was blown away by how awesome the shop is. I was always curious to go in, but never had time during the day when they are open. All of the walls are covered in flags, and being that they make flags, there was a lot to take in. After browsing, I decided to take home a Philadelphia city flag. All of the new flags available for sale are of good quality and come in a lot of sizes. If you are looking for something a little different, you can bring in a design to have custom flag made, which is neat. Definitely worth stopping in. read more

Wow this is a very odd little place right next to the Betsy Ross house. If you need any sort of flag, FYI they don't carry confederate battle flags, you can't get it here. That is a store policy and I think it is a sensible one given the controversial nature of its symbolism. Some bozo came into the store while we were there and started to berate them for being a bunch of communists for having a Soviet flag but not a Confederate one. As a southerner, don't lecture me on the symbolism of a flag that the KKK flew when I was growing up please. The war of northern aggression is over and the south lost! Get over it. State flags, school flags, antique flags, foreign flags, 48 star flags, 24 star flags, you name it. They also have a fascinating collection of civil war state militia flags. Basically they have anything and everything. They sell decorative flag poles and finials for the top. Very cool place. I bought a tea stained, to look old, colonial flag and a Serapis flag which John Paul Jones flew over the captured British ship the Serapis in the revolutionary war. Very cool and unusual place. It is a bit like a museum. They totally know their stuff! One of the most interesting shops in Philly. You should go out of your way to stop by. read more

Well, it is a very interesting place to visit - that is certain - in a weird "hoarder" sort of way. But after buying a small Kentucky flag that was coming in later that week, paying for it with the postage, here I am 3 months, one email and MANY phone calls later with no flag. Extremely frustrating. 2 weeks ago was the last call - promise of mailing it that day and said they had already mailed it once (I highly doubt that). Then was told that if I received both of them, I should pay for the other (this is a $4 item by the way) I live in Kentucky and could probably find the flag here, but now it has become a matter of principle! moral: only buy what they have in stock read more

A true gem of Philadelphia. There is definitely something to be said for shaking the hand of the person who crafts your purchase. And besides the beautiful flag you'll walk away with, entering the shop is an experience in and of itself. The storeowners are not just knowledgeable but enthusiastic about what they do. I wanted a flag done a specific way, and Matt was more than happy to draw it up in just a couple of days. I went in-person to buy a couple flag patches (the kind you can sew on a backpack or luggage). I paid for four of them, but only two were in my hand. They told me two of them needed to be ordered and I'd get a call within a week to come pick them up. Two weeks later...no confirmation. I called with no answer. I called again and was redirected to another store location where a woman told me she saw my order and that 2 patches needed to be delivered to the old city location, but for some reason they were never alerted of it, so it never went through. I have continuously called several times, now months later, with nobody picking up. I've left voicemails as well. At this point, I just want a refund because they are clearly not concerned with their customers and any purchases they make. I love this shop and love supporting small, local, family businesses, but am extremely disappointed in their service and so far I'm down $$$ with no product! read more
