No, no, no. Just NO. Any other rating would be from someone who doesn't eat Chinese food on a regular basis. Restaurant is dirty, dingy and dark. Employees are watching TV in corner. It hasn't seen a remodel in over 30 years - I know, bc my grandmother took me here as a kid. Food is greasy and yet flavorless. Egg drop soup must be canned. Gross. I found the place a bit unkept but plunged in for carryout. Not the best. I'd put it under mediocre ... the worst sesame chicken. Shrimp with vegetables very bland and small shrimp. The spring rolls were just ok. I've had better buffets and that is generally just ok. I had leftovers ... I tossed them. Won't be back. read more

I order our food and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. I came 45 minutes later. There was a line of 7 people waiting outside to pickup orders they called in previously. The line grew behind me as I waited 30 minutes to get in to pickup my order that was ready before I arrived. They only allow 1 person in at a time and do not appear to process anyone that has order ready for pickup ahead of the first person in line. Many people gave up and left. Find another place to go until Hunan gets their act together. Update - I originally rated them as a1 star because it should never that a carryout restaurant 30+ minutes to ring you up for an order that was ready before you arrived. Last week was 2yrs since the last time I came here, 2yrs past and I was able to revisit it since I was I. Town with a mass of friends. And frankly it did not disappoint. 30 people in our group, we fouled up by not calling ahead, but they accommodated us still. Everyone left happy and full, great portions and prices. My favorite had to be the pork fried rice, orange chicken and broccoli beef. The sour soup was also quality, like made at home status. Besides drifting events, the next best reason to come thru Shawano, Wi would have to be this place hands down. Thank you again! read more

Out of touch owners. Being Chinese my self, you think to go into a Chinese restaurant in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin, you get some warm reception from the Chinese owners. Nope, I was deadly wrong. Because I am here for a month long business trip, I gave this place multiple tries before deciding to leave a negative review here. The food isn't the worst I had, typical Chinese American food, nothing special but I've eaten a lot worse place than this. What I can't stand is the rude lady that owns the restaurant. Every time I am here, she has this face that someone had just died or something. Today, my colleague and I went there for the second time within less than a week; at first, there was literally no one in the restaurant. After standing there for a few minutes we just seated ourselves. Finally, the cook (I assume he is the husband) came out to greet us, he was okay, at least he smiled, but did not apologize for making us wait without anyone to greet us. Then a few minutes later he also took our order. It was the lady owner who took the food out. Again, I wouldn't leave such a negative review if it was purely because of the food, but her service is ridiculous. Every time I was here, their restaurant is completely empty, so it is not like they are raking in profit with nonstop business. You think with this kind of business condition, she would be more appreciative that we come here multiple times to bring her business. Maybe she doesn't need the business, because every time I'm here she is the rude, unresponsive, unfriendly look on her face as if she doesn't want us to be here. I honestly don't know how this kind of restaurant stays in business. I feel I like to be tortured by her rudeness for going back multiple times. I called in my order to pick up and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. When I arrived 30 minutes later, the order hadn't been started yet. I went to the park for a bit and returned. Waited another ten minutes, received the order and headed home. I ordered hot and sour soup, crab Rangoon, an order of spring rolls, and Hunan Shrimp. The soup was good. The crab Rangoon looked different than any I had before. The filling was good but the shell was oddly tough. I opened my Hunan shrimp and to my surprise the shrimp was little popcorn size shrimp. This is my favorite main dish and as many times as I have ordered it from different Chinese restaurants, it has always been large shrimp. The flavor was fine. The restaurant was kind enough to include an order of sugar donut holes but unfortunately they also had an odd toughness about them. A pretty decent place in the bustling heart of Downtown Shawano. Clearly a family operation: our three servers all appeared to be school-age kids, and I'll bet Mom and/or Dad were working the kitchen. Pretty lightly patronized on a rainy Friday night. Our party of three opted for the Hunan Special Dinner. a good buy at $12.50 per person. Each dinner consisted of an assortment of five appetizers (excellent, light spring rolls; skewered beef; chicken in foil; fried shrimp; and crab Rangoon); individual choice of soup (won ton, hot and sour, and egg flower), and an entrée with a bowl of steamed rice on the side. We ordered: - Pork with garlic sauce; probably the most interesting of the three, in a somewhat sweet and moderately spicy sauce. (We did ask them to go easy on the spices, in deference to the 96-year-old member of our party.) - Shrimp with cashews. - Diced chicken with almonds, nicely textured but perhaps a bit too mild. Modest beer and wine menu; among the beers, they were out of Tsing Tao. The remainder were just American industrial lagers. Altogether a pretty good experience. If I were a resident of Shawano, instead of an occasional visitor, I'd undoubtedly be a regular customer. read more

I always give a place at least two or three tries before making a decision about it. Other reviews and suggestions from people in the town claimed this is great Chinese food. In this instance I tried this place three times and have been disappointed each time. The food is not very good and the restaurant itself is not clean and smells dusty/old. The crab rangoons are bland except for a dill seasoning taste. The beef and broccoli is so drenched in sauce that it's basically soup. The fried rice had a serious overpowering sesame oil taste that was sickening. Maybe I'm just used to the Chinese joints in other cities or maybe people that rave here haven't ventured to try others but I'm not a fan at all. The restaurant is cluttered and has a strong musty odor, it doesn't feel or look clean at all. read more

Ok.... I'm there again. Why? Cause it's really really good food and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Want a tip? Try the Hot and Sour soup..... I've been all over the country and it's a stand out quality. I buy a quart CHEAP and take home. The father doing the cooking is excellent and the Mom is very efficient. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Shawano. The food has always been very good, and the service is good. I love the crab rangoon, and the steamed dumplings. I wish the place was a little warmer. The dining room is often chilly, especially if you sit next to the front windows. I've never gone away hungry, and they also do carry-out. If they delivered I would order from there more often. It's not a fancy place, but the food and service are always good. read more

Me and my brother went here to go get some bubble tea because why not. I was really happy to step in but then that happiness was gone in a minute. It was very dirty and we didn't get service for 6 minutes. So the lady takes our order and it takes about 30 minutes for us to get our bubble tea. And oh my god it tasted watered down as hell. And the bubble tea felt really sticky and really didn't taste good. Will never go here again read more

Excellent Chinese food. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and if you are looking for authentic, stop here. It does take a bit longer to get the meal to the table, but it is worth the wait. The Hot and Sour Soup is the best. We also love the fried dumplings, shrimp egg foo young, and Three Delicacies Saute. read more

We have been patronizing this place since moving to Shawano in 2001. For the last ten months they have chronicly gotten out order wrong, charged us more than we should have been, and some of the quality of the food (brown or black spots on veggies) has gone downhill. First time visit to this restaurant - took the opportunity to stop before my grandson's HS football game on a rainy Friday evening... My daughter, two grown granddaughters and I shared the Hunan Special dinner - - after we had finished a wonderful cup of Wonton soup and the great assortment of appetizers, both granddaughters said that they felt like they had gotten their money's worth already - - funny, since Gramma was paying... We ordered the General Tso's chicken; the Almond chicken; beef with broccoli and sweet/sour pork...Generous plates of foot - - we took home a nice amount of leftovers which made a great snack when I got home after the game... Fortune cookies and bottomless glasses of soda completed our meal - - service was friendly, fast and flawless... The young man who greeted, seated and got our menus and drinks was delightful... The dining room was clean and well lit... A wonderful experience - - we will definitely go back - - even though it is 30+ miles from home... read more
