I have been here 3 times and have never been disappointed. Today I had the shrimp and pea dish with fried rice and an iced tea, yum! I'm surprised this place is never super busy, but I also love that because you never have to wait long for your meal. I would love to give 5 stars but the restaurant itself needs an upgrade to make the atmosphere more inviting. If you want a yummy Asian dish, this is the place to go in Waupaca. read more

Clean and comfortable restaurant. Our server checked in with us from start to finish and was very pleasant. The dishes came out fairly quickly and the menu prices are reasonable. We just wish the food had more flavor. My Mongolian Beef which I ordered mixed vegetables with was the best thing we had; the Crab Meat Rangoon and General Tso's Chicken were okay but not great (and the General Tso's did not have any heat, it was sweet). read more

Great location. I love the beautiful water feature outside the front door. We sat at a booth. The walls had food splatter on them and the window sills were really dusty. I should have walked out right then. The owner and servers are very nice. But the food is just awful My Hunan Beef order was so bland and greasy. It was just awful. Did not even taste like Chinese food. My husband's dish was not much better. It is very unfortunate that there is not better Asian food in Waupaca. read more

Ive been coming here for a few years. The quality of food is on par for American Chinese food restaurants. BUT the cost in the last few years have drastically increased. And I noticed they don't fill up their To Go containers according to the size you buy (pint or quart). And now I've noticed they charge more for vegetables for their plain fried rice? And their pork spare ribs are TERRIBLE. They are definitely NOT spare ribs and use some much leaner cut and don't dress them to cover the fact they aren't actual pork spare ribs. I spent 48.50 for carryout and was extremely disappointed. Truly not worth the cost for average Chinese food. read more

I had the chicken teriyaki. Not good. Very bland, tough as leather, piece of chicken. Vegetables undercooked. Tried to cut with my fork but ran out of muscle tone half way through. We had a lovely dinner with leftovers for one or two more meals. As we entered the restaurant shortly before 6 p.m. I was a little concerned Because it seemed empty. There were only a couple of tables in a large restaurant on a Sat. Evening. But as we sat others soon arrived and the hostess was kept busy on the phone with take out orders. The restaurant was clean, nicely decorated with soft background instrumental music playing. Our service was exceptional. We start d with appetizers of pork egg rolls (3) and pot stickers (6). They were both tasty. For our main meal we had mixed rice noodles spicy and Kung Pho chicken. The mixed rice noodles includes shrimp (2 medium) pork and Chicken. It was spiced perfectly for me as I had ordered it spicy. The Kung Pho Chicken was reported as delicious yet felt that a flavor profile Was missing. It had plenty of red peppers for heat. I ordered a lemonade which came as a pink lemonade and was from the soda fountain machine. We would definitely go back to eat at this restaurant if in Waupaca again. As a side note it was a beautiful sunny Saturday evening and we decided to take a drive before heading back to our room. We left this restaurant, which borders the unincorporated town of King, and passed a handful of other eating Establishments. We found some rustic road routes and went through a lovely "Historic town of Rural". We also found ourselves in a State Park area. It was a perfect end to a lovely evening. read more

Located on QQ just south of the 54 and 10 interchange towards King on the left side. Parking: private lot, probably 20-30 spaces. Never had a problem finding a space Service: quick, efficient. Had no problem at all Food: more than enough for a hungry person. I've always had to take some home. The potstickers are okay to good. Needs to retain a little broth in the potsticker to be great. Potsticker sauce is pretty good. I always have a King Pao variety, lately Shrimp. I also ask them to kick the heat up a notch, which they've been willing to do. My wife usually gets the beef and broccoli. We order a mixed fried rice order on the side. The meals have been enjoyable. For the price, a good meal. What a treat! Eleven of the ladies in our family (age 15-70+) had dinner last night. There was plenty to share and we did! Mom had sesame chicken, and I had cashew chicken. Daughter had general tsos. Being a pretty good expert on Chinese food with over sixty years experience, have to say Chef Chu's Restaurant in Kong, Wisconsin is a Jade "Gem" of a find! Recommend the Rangoon crab appetizer for starters. The hot and sour soup is just right. If you like honey walnut prawns, the cook has the inside scoop. A good battered shrimp, honey walnut prawns surrounded by broccoli florets. Skip the chow mein unless you like the old "ching king" canned Chinese food with the fried won ton skin strips separate as you can see in the picture. The broccoli is fresh in the broccoli beef dish. Twice cooked pork is nice and spicy. Sweet and sour chicken is very good. Our waitress 'Emily' is attentive, good service. FYI, Chef Chu's Restaurant is closed on Mondays. We would go back to try other items on their wide selection menu. read more

I hate to do this...but 3 stars for Chef Chu's. This place was once the best for Chinese food, hands down. It's the real stuff, and you could taste it. Today, I can see that things have changed. Our waitress/host was apathetic and did not know the menu. Before going to Chef Chu's, I checked the menu and researched a dish online. So when I went to the restaurant and asked about it, she didn't know what it contained, and she didn't offer to find out. So I got the spicy bean curd, and yes, it was tofu, but I expected real veggies. Instead, the dish contained a watery sauce, square carrots, and peas. They used the frozen veggies from the fried rice. Not cool. In the past the crab Rangoon had pieces of crab and onion in the cream cheese. What we got today was plain cream cheese Rangoon. My mom's sweet n' sour chicken made her happy, but she was disappointed that the meal did not include an egg roll, salad, or soup. I won't go out of my way to eat here again, unless they go back to the way it used to be! read more

We are new to the area, and hungry for Chinese food!! After checking online to see what was available in the Waupaca, Wisconsin area, we read the reviews. The "other" chinese restaurant did not have a review over a 2....so we read the ones for Chef Chu's. All raving reviews. We get there, and the place is empty. Well it's 7:00 pm. Dinner rush is over. With the News exploding with Coronavirus people are taking it to the extreme and avoiding Chinese Restaurants all over the United States. (which personally, I feel is ridiculous!!) I could see a problem if it were already in our community, but it's not! We order our food...Mongolian Beef with mushrooms, and General Tso's Chicken, with shrimp fried rice! The food was wonderful, the service was awesome! Well worth the 15 minute drive there!! And the prices were easy on the pocket book!! We highly recommend this restaurant!! Was passing through Waupaca and needed to stop for lunch. Found this little gem on Yelp and decided to stop. Everything was perfect! I was greeted promptly and seated immediately. Hot tea in 1 minute, egg drop soup in 2 minutes, General Taos chicken in under 5 minutes. All from the time I was seated!! I almost gave up on Chinese food in Waupaca after my first attempt failed miserably... Until Chef Chu's. This is no buffet and quite good as far as lunch menu goes. Specials are limited to a douzen items but don't expect to pay more than $7-8 per person. (This includes your main entree with a choice of rice, soups or salad and fried spring roll) Good thing driving into an empty parking lot, scary looking building and halfway renovated dinning area wasn't enough to discourage me from experiencing a good meal. Quality American Chinese food in Waupaca. I especially like two menu items that the chef has taken some creative liberties with: Coconut Shrimp and Lemon Chicken. The coconut shrimp is served on a bed of crispy rice noodles with a delicious cream sauce and the Lemon chicken is almost like a chicken schnitzel. Its white chicken meat that is pounded thin, breaded and deep-fried. The lemon sauce is clear, subtlety citrusy, and really tasty. I've eaten other entrees from the menu and always have always enjoyed my meal. Service is attentive and never lacking and the landscape and decor is pleasant and updated. read more

Every 4th of July we come up here and the meal I always look forward to is Chef Chu's! The Vegetable Mu Shu is my go-to, I can't recommend it enough. Their crab ragoons are some of my favorite ever. Food is consistently delicious and the staff is always friendly. read more

Typically I'm one to hype up Chef Chu's but after today's experience, don't even waste your time. I work at a local nursing home and once a month we place orders from local restaurants for the residents, chef Chu's usually being one of the options. Today, as an order was placed for the residents, I called separately and ordered my meal so I could pay with my credit card. When the order was called in, it was requested that the food be labeled (as it always is) to pass out to the residents. When we received our food, meals were missing (including mine), nothing was labeled and when I called to complain, the woman on the phone basically said "it sucks to be you". Didn't offer a refund, or to make the missing meals for us again. I was told "everything was in the box. Sorry". Extremely upset considering I paid $10 for my meal and didn't receive ANYTHING. Unfortunate for chef chus because the nursing home won't be ordering from them again. Lots of money lost just because of a rude customer. read more
