This is a really cool store. So many cool vintage items and craft (especially scrapbooking/junk journaling) things. It's like a giant yard sale. They have an outside area with giant letters from signs, garden items and such. The main rooms upstairs are all kinds of random pieces of art, photos and supplies, dolls and more and downstairs they have even more stuff to check out. Jam packed, can be a bit overwhelming. It was my first time going and didn't really know what to expect but I'll for sure be back to grab some things for my scrapbooks & other art projects. I LOVED checking out Hunt & Gather last weekend! There is plenty of street parking nearby. The staff were super friendly. The walkways in the store are a tad narrow due to the abundance of items, so it can feel a bit crowded if multiple groups are exploring the same area. It is the most fun and quirky antique store, overflowing with a variety of fairly priced gems for everyone. I could have spent hours in there but unfortunately we went shortly before closing. If you like antique hunting, you're going to love this place. Service was great, the staff were helpful and at times, were open to splitting up things if needed. Atmosphere: the parking lot next to it is full of neon sign style letters split up and together. When you walk into the building, it's very overstimulating (in a good way) with so many things. I would describe the vibe as a hoarder that opened up an antique store that also has OCD. It's chaotic and organized all at the same time. Hallways can be tight at times and there's two levels of fun. You'll enjoy the hunt but make sure you have at least an hour or two to explore! read more

A great selection of vintage pieces and oddities! Hunt & Gather has a yard full of sign parts--individual letters from signs from Quizno's. Arby's, and many, many more. Those letters run $20-$50 each, unlit. There's a great collection of reasonably priced house plants outside too, as well as rusty plant stands and furniture pieces. Inside is a shop full of display after display of cool vintage goodies and artifacts. We noticed pieces from what must've been a fraternal lodge, carnival games, horns and shells, doll parts, toys, movie posters... I could spend hours here! Prices indicate the owners know what they have & do their research; you're not likely to find something drastically underpriced or ridiculously overpriced. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hunt & Gather is WILD; anything you can think of, you can probably find here. I will say, some points definitely got a bit stressful between the narrow walkways and traffic, but it's an experience you can't miss in the Cities! There were definitely some drawbacks: --Prices were a bit steep, especially for some of the specific items. --This place is NOT handicap accessible. If you have any sort of accessibility aids or are not fully able-bodied, this would almost certainly be a nightmare. Those points being made, I loved the variety of different objects here: furniture, tchotchkes, crafting supplies, books, the list goes on & on. This place was magical. Tons of different things to find all packed into what looks like a tiny building but it is in fact not. They have old letters from sign. They have plants, clothes, magazines, books, crafty bobs, art, handmade products, and all sorts of oddities. The price for things varies widely. Some stuff is quite fairly valued such as plants, scrapbooking things, art, and knickknacks. Some other things are of higher value -- i presume due to vintage nature or handmade quality. The name hits it on the head. This dungeonesque building is literally filled to the ceiling with stuff that is either junk or someone's treasure. You can spend the day hunting through the masses of stuff and find things that will bring back memories of your youth. I actually found a book of nursery stories that my grandmother read to me when I was a kid! I also found a fondu cookbook that my mom used to have when we bought our first fondu pot in the 70's. (And used about 5 times). If your looking for 70's or 80''s decor or clothing for a theme party or Halloween this would also be a great place to start. Plan for at least an hour (or more) to make your way through the labyrinth on multiple floors (and outside). Definitely fun, and you might find some cool crap that means something to you, or look good in your house. read more

Visited Minneapolis and not sure if this was an Altas Obscura or Yelp find, but wow! Delightful junk and vintage shop: a colorful carnival for the eyes. All three of us found something to love here and only two of us actually even like vintage shopping. They've included new gifts interspersed for book, graphic design and plant lovers. A veritable smorgasbord of stuff and a very fun and quirky browse and shop. Be sure to check out the basement and attic, as well as the side yard of enormous signage letters. Lots of nooks and crannies in this shop. Also a terrific micro-neighborhood nearby for other antique and vintage shopping, if you are so inclined. read more

Hunt & Gather has quickly become one of my favorite places in Minneapolis. The selection of incredible items they have packed into their building is overwhelming and you can easily spend hours inside admiring everything. They truly have something for everyone here. Unfortunately, like a lot of antique and vintage pricing, it can be a bit expensive depending on what you are looking at buying. Not every vendor is on site so you likely won't be able to negotiate, either. The only other downside to this place is it is not handicap accessible so if you are not fully able bodied, it will be difficult to almost impossible for you to comfortably navigate this space. The lighting is mostly dim throughout, as well, so if you cannot see well, this may not be the shop for you! Overall, I think this place is great. Staff is always very friendly and ready to help with anything you may need. I can't wait to go back! read more

Total treasure trove! This is a place that you can get lost in, maybe literally, but you'll like it. The way that it's currently curated has a mix of modern circus x retro chic x punk vintage vibes. It makes no sense on paper but it works irl. You'll be immediately drawn in by their famous lit-up letters, pink furniture and lush houseplants visible through the front garage door. We browsed several rooms across two floors + outside, and found treasures like clothes, modern and vintage prints, fun lettering, decor, furniture, jewelry, novelty items, plants, statues... what's NOT here, honestly. We got a tablecloth, matchbox, random letters that spell our son's name, a couple posters, and a vintage-looking dusty pink trench coat. I can't wait to go back and dig into more things for longer. I will say, it's not the best place during COVID, so go at your own discretion. They do require masks and social distancing, but sometimes it's hard to stay distant in the rooms (which is no fault of their own, just be safe and responsible!). read more

This place is so cool! First time visiting today & picked up a cute new plant and mug. There is SO much to look at, I could spend hours here and still not see everything. There's an upstairs and a downstairs with lots of rooms to explore. Never been anywhere quite like it. Many unique items. I can't comment on pricing really since I don't shop at many similar places, but I thought my items were reasonably priced. Hunt & Gather is an extremely interesting antique store. It is definitely worth a visit just to look through because there's so much to see! Like most multi-vendor antique places, there are many nooks and crannies crammed with all kinds of interesting things. I really enjoyed the time I spent wandering (hunting?) and picking through (gathering?) various types of antique, vintage and re-purposed items. I would say there was a lot of vintage and antique clothing and dishes, old photos and books and many things to use in various art projects, plus furniture mixed in. My favorite things turned out to be the plants - I picked up two succulents and a monstera to join my home crew. There's also there's a wide variety of art and framed mirrors and other home goods to enjoy. The only downsides were that it might be visually overwhelming to some people, and that some of the items seemed overpriced compared to other places in town I've browsed similar items before. Thoroughly enjoyable, and if you aren't overwhelmed by the visual stimulation, plan at least 30 minutes just to browse. read more

I can spend my entire day in here. It's my favorite store while visiting the cities. It's so unique, fun, and exciting. You'll be amazing at all the items you can find. Every time you come you'll find so many new items. My all time favorite is the head planters. However each room is beautifully decorated, arranged and staged. At times I wonder how some things haven't fell over since it does get pretty tall with items in certain locations of the store. But honestly I'll come here every chance I get. It's such a great vibe being in here. The only down side, which also isn't a negative side is that it's been pretty packed it's hard to not feel rushed while looking. Great for them, however I like to take my time and really search and go through things. Come here, and you'll be amazed at what you can find. We found a 1850's Victorian spoon sugar dish here too. So there is some pretty unique finds mixed in. There's also extra packing in the back through the fences if there isn't any road parking. read more

This is the stuffed to the brim bonanza of antique this that and the other. I came here looking for inspiration for decorating my kitchen. Color combinations, actual products, and I saw these maps from the 60s of south America and other countries. I thought they were expensive at $45 but when I looked online they actually went up to $200. Do not go here if you are not capable of saying "excuse me" and backing out of little cubbies that somebody else wants to get into and trying to find your way through the labyrinth of upstairs and downstairs vintage clothing, buttons,signs, bottles, toys. I decided to purchase my map and I told a man at the front desk that I needed help. He smiled and went to help me. I told him he would need a screwdriver so he got a Dewalt type one. He asked if he needed a footstool and I said "no." Be prepared to ask for help getting things down! I also had help from a lady looking through some rolled up maps because when I took a map out it was hitting a vintage chandelier and I didn't want to break things. It's packed from floor to ceiling and has literally everything, new and vintage/used - clothes, books, shoes, decor, home goods, books, cards, blankets, plants, etc. It's quite overwhelming so while it's fun to explore, I'd also recommend going in with a list of things you're hoping to find. The prices varied, some items seemed like a steal while other things seemed overpriced but that's subjective. There are 2 floors so you could do a quick walkthrough in 30 minutes or you could spend all day there. Everyone was wearing masks but it's difficult to keep your distance when the aisles are mostly narrow. There was hand sanitizer and the employees were friendly. read more

I entered Hunt & Gather. My jaw dropped. It reminded me of that time on 30 Rock when Patrice tells Liz Lemon, "Melissa, your face called. Soccer practice is over, and you need... to pick it up!" Walking through this shop is like going on a treasure hunt. Since it was my first time, I was completely overwhelmed. I think after a couple more (thousand) visits, I'll get a feel for the terrain, but there's just room after room of interesting junk throughout two floors. The employees were all really friendly and helpful as I totally geeked out over everything. Whether you're looking for light-up letters for signage (they've got tons) or vintage mounted antlers and taxidermy (also tons), antique dinnerware, or Japanese parasols, retro children's books, crystal chandeliers, old post office bins, armchairs or ANYTHING interesting or kitschy, decor-wise, you must come here. Some things seemed to priced a little higher and some a little lower than what I would have guessed. They also do event rentals too, so if you want anything for a wedding or photo shoot, they charge 20% of the tag price to rent something for up to three days and it goes up from there if you need to keep something longer. It's a shopping extravaganza. I so appreciate the variety. But, it is overwhelming and think it would be more successful if it wasn't packed to the gills. Needs some quality control. More isn't always more. I had an unfortunate experience, I was in the week before and asked the price of something. I went back today and was told it was $70 more than last week. When I asked about the price increase, the salesperson was not kind. She was rude and flippant. I love the store, but there is room (pun intended) for improvement. Sometimes quality and less merchandise makes for a more successful business, resulting in happier customers. read more

I loved this place so much they have amazing truly vintage items of all kinds from vintage Harley jackets and tie tops to vintage makeup and jewelry, books, phones, dishes and furniture ! Each item has a persons name on it who picked it you can speak to that person about how they found the items and it's a great chat... funny enough everything I liked one lady had picked out! It's a great environment especially if your curious about other decades and love to snoop ! I had no intention of shopping here but I had to see what this store is all about after driving past and noticing the piles of colorful goods stored out front. This place is almost impossible to describe because it is unique and overwhelming in the variety of antiques, plants and oddities they sell. I highly recommend you simply check it out for yourself. I adore stores like this one. Crammed full of everything from lampshades to oil paintings to wire baskets to old windows. Need a license plate? Some antiquated flash cards? An end table that doesn't look like it's from Ashley Furniture? Stop on by. Coffee up before going in, as it takes a bit of energy and focus to make it through the crowded aisles. One very friendly saleslady approached us when we first entered (with a really polite, nice manner) and just told us the best way to peruse the store. They helped me carry out to my car the large trunk I found for a steal of a deal in the basement. Not a place to 1) go if you're in a big rush or 2) bring your kids if they haven't had their Ritalin with their Wheaties -- pretty crowded. Partly what makes it great. read more

You can spend hours browsing through vintage clothes, textiles, books, art, photographs, decor, etc. The owners told me too that their inventory updates daily so there is always something new and different! Even the music -- a mix of old songs and advertising jingles -- made me smile. Really, $12 for t-shirts exactly like the $2 ones at any Goodwill (definitely not vintage -- for example, schoolkids still do DARE and the T-shirt has literally not changed in 15 years ) A little beat-up foam cow figurine for $25?? DOLLARS, yes! Teeny, cruddy game pieces for 75 cents each?? Or how about a Children's Place Jean jacket for $25. LOL it probably sold brand new for $20. I mean, The store is packed with some really neat stuff -- lots of it very interesting. But there's also lots of garbage. All overpriced.
