I knew I didn't want the basics: dry tasteless chicken, rice pilaf, mixed veggies, and a dinner roll. I swear that's the same cuisine for every sit down dinner. Thank God for Amber! She made my vision come to life. Because the theme was Mardi Gras, I wanted a southern creole type menu to match that. I expressed to her what I wanted and she went ABOVE AND BEYOND on EVERYTHING! She also asked if I needed any help with decor (which I totally did because I am NOT creative). I knew what I wanted but making it possible was the difficulty. Well, not only was she able to provide a slamming creole cuisine, but also provided all of the decor for the party as well. Today's buffet was pork tenderloins. Huge portions! Salad bar had a large variety of choices; broccoli salad, corn dish, I think there was a pasta salad, as well as regular salad bar fare; lettuce, cheese, bacon bits, etc. the buffet also had potatoes and green beans. First time here was for catered anniversary party. Second time had the chicken fried steak (real breaded steak that was 1/4-1/2" thick), mashed potatoes and a gravy boat of sawmill gravy. Tonight had the ribeye, twice baked potato and salad bar. Steak was perfectly done (medium) and hot. Highly recommend the salad bar (in itself a meal). Table next to us ordered the prime rib (I am assuming that it was the large because it was the size of a medium roast (no kidding). Highly recommend this place, a real hidden treasure of a restaurant. One more thing, this is not a Chinese restaurant.

Every time I buy a MarCon gooseberry pie for my family at Chapman Food Mart, I know they will love…read morethis at home. My husband especially loves gooseberry pie, and it's difficult to find them. Good flaky crust, light sugar glaze, mmmm. My husband used to pick wild gooseberries in Virginia, so he has checked out gooseberries. It seems the commercial growers are fighting shipment time, so the frozen gooseberries are not a problem for us. I may stop at this grocery every other month, primarily for their never-frozen beef and pork. The pie is a bonus, and priced reasonably at $9.99. I usually make my own pies, and it is rare that I would buy one. It's the gooseberry pie that makes me buy MarCon!
