OK, how can an oil and propane company get 5-stars? That's a great question, and I want to explain. Before writing this I made a list of things I expect from an Oil and Propane company: 1.) Friendly and knowledgeable "Front Office" and "Back Office" personnel. 2.) A good selection of propane and oil fireplaces. 3.). A plan to assist new customers getting service. 4.). Honest pricing 5.). Doing what they promise. Hunter Oil and Propane in Sanford is in a little freestanding office that could be missed if you blink while going by. It looks like a genuine family owned & operated company, who have kept margins low and focused on their customers. When you walk in the door, there is someone there to say hi and to give you time to look around without "hounding" you. You are immediately at ease and will soon ask questions and then you will find out what I found out, Hunter Is the place I want to shop. So, in conclusion let me say that I bought a new propane log set and got the tank installed with their special for new customers. While installing my logs, they ran a connector to my gas grill so I don't have to worry about those little tanks. Everything works perfectly, and for their score on my list of 5 things I look for, Hunter Oil and Propane hit a home-run. Bravo! Give them a try, you will be glad you did! read more

They are fantastic at letting your propane tank get empty in winter when you have an infant/toddler, two years in a row! If you value the safety of your child or your family, Hunter Oil & Propane doesn't share your values, so I would recommend looking for a reliable propane company that cares about their customers. I write this review while my 2 year old son is in a bunch of clothing layers because Hunter let our propane run out again after promising last year they would make sure we wouldn't run out this winter... I hope an emergency truck shows up, but the after hours line routed us to the Kerosine line and they couldn't help us. We're most likely spending the night at a hotel. The last time Hunter let us run out they said they would NOT reimburse us for a hotel bill that they solely caused. What a trainwreck of a company... read more

Contacted them last year as a new homeowner. They had me refilled shortly thereafter and have been great since.

I am beyond thankful for the customer service that Robert provided. I called to request a propane delivery as my tank was less than 10%. My 88 year old Mother had previously been using an ac/ heater unit. The unit stopped working and luckily there was still some propane from several years ago when the heat source was a wall propane unit. Robert made sure the delivery was priority since this was now the major heat source. They delivered it that afternoon. Prior to finding Hunter Propane I contacted two of their competitors concerning propane service. I must say Hunter Propane was a breath of fresh air compared to the other two companies. Everyone from Hunter I have been in contact with was very helpful and accommodating. They seemed to really appreciate my business. I advise you to avoid this company like the plague. Almost every interaction I have had with their employees, has been unpleasant. They are extremely rude and nasty, and that's an understatement. Please, do not call on Saturdays because chances are, whomever is working will be unable to answer your questions. I thought I had a gas leak, and the employee seemed especially annoyed that he had to come and check it out. The minimum purchase for propane is $400.00 which, to me, is beyond ridiculous. A year later, still horrible service. They list Saturday hours on their website, but when I called with a question about my account, they said that they can't help me until Monday at 8am. What is the point of saying you have Saturday hours AND that the payment desk is open if the person that answers the phone won't even look up your account? I'm not asking for someone to come fill a tank on a Sat, just look to see what type of fill service I'm signed up for. Since I'm nearly out, I'm guessing I'm still not on the route for filling. Its been nearly two years since we signed up for fill service and we have yet to get it. We have to hound them, repeatedly calling, and even just show up in the office before we get the tank filled. Which of course means they charge us the higher "on demand" price .. which is exactly what we were trying to avoid. Ridiculous. If I weren't in a rental with one of their tanks installed, I would have dumped this company a long time ago. The owners of this company should try doing an undercover boss situation sometime to see just how terrible their employees are. read more
