Conveniently located just at the turn-off to Newcastle Airport, this hotel isn't anywhere near Newcastle. The rooms were well-appointed, well designed and brand-new - more comfortable than some of the Hiltons I've stayed in recently (Brisbane/Adelaide I'm looking at you). The reception lobby is impressive, although the bar and restaurant are a little too cavernous to feel luxurious and cosy. Dinner at the restaurant was great - although the patty in the burger didn't taste freshly handmade - and there was a good selection of beer and wine. The staff were clearly learning the ropes of this new hotel - but they were so genuinely keen to help and do well that we loved the service and felt looked-after.

But, no. No free wifi for you. Another tenner for the privilege of 24 hour 512kbps wireless internet. I understand a business is there to make a profit, but this continuous penny pinching on the customer is downright insulting.

Wasn't hard to find; just follow the crowd, the sound of children playing on equipment and of course the delicious aroma of smoked meat. It was a bit squishy downstairs but the upper level was far more spacious and relaxed. Still featuring a bar but more so for food service. Despite my free samples I still had space to order the pulled wagyu roll which was delicious. So much meat! No skimping. The chips were hot and crisp. I loved my meal. Cute little library where you can donate pre loved books or take one home from the titles already on display. Walking through to a more private area with a few extra dining tables. Buffet breakfast with a pancake making gadget and an omelette station where the Chef makes to order. Hot selection of scrambled eggs, bacon (normal or crispy), beans, sausages, tomato and mushrooms. Cold selection of fruit, cereal, pastries and juices. Whilst never one to turn down an all-you-can-eat breakfast, I'd heard great reviews and unfortunately it fell short of my expectations. It just didn't taste like the real thing. The sausages and meatballs in particular were bland and the eggs and bacon were nothing like you could make from home. The egg station is probably your best bet as it's made fresh and any way you want them. The pancake machine was slow to make just two. I'd much rather a chef made them fresh or just had them pre made in the hot selection range.
