My journey to the Bay from Sydney was twice as long because of trains breaking down and buses taking forever. I phoned to let them know I was still coming and the lovely reception stayed back half an hour to ensure I was checked in and able to get to my room. The room itself was I guess what I'd call a triple; a double and two single beds - a bit much for just little old me but a really decent sized room. Although it was dark, there was a view of the pool - not being used this time of year but I thought about what it might be like IF I used it! It was clean, beds were well made. The bathroom had a bath and shower (separate) and a really good dispenser system in both the shower and basin. I don't see this in a lot of hotels. I didn't use it but there was a fridge, microwave and TV. You also get a free Wi-Fi code which is good, not sure how many MB's, I only used it for a little bit. After I checked out and was on my way back to Sydney, I realised I had left behind my book and umbrella and they kindly agreed to take it to my brother - it's the Bay attitude, generally very friendly and helpful. I'm 5+ months pregnant and the only pain in the backside thing I can really mention is that getting into the resort from the bottom of Magnus street is annoying because it's uphill. Down, not so bad. The bus stopped right on Magnus outside. Decor is a little old-school but I wasn't in town for a posh, fancy holiday. This would suit a family trip for the weekend or outgoing couples not fussed about staying in an elitist property; you're in to sleep and out to play. Breakfast down at Baroque and a walk along the Marina was a nice way to end my stay. I'd book at Marina Resort again.

I love meat so it was the perfect incentive to venture out to Branxton. A nice pub holding a prominent corner location. Wasn't hard to find; just follow the crowd, the sound of children playing on equipment and of course the delicious aroma of smoked meat. It was a bit squishy downstairs but the upper level was far more spacious and relaxed. Still featuring a bar but more so for food service. Despite my free samples I still had space to order the pulled wagyu roll which was delicious. So much meat! No skimping. The chips were hot and crisp. I loved my meal. Cute little library where you can donate pre loved books or take one home from the titles already on display. Walking through to a more private area with a few extra dining tables. Every few years, the torrential rains flood this flat area under water. But there is a popular drinking hole for the locals, and that is the Victoria Hotel. A little octagonal 2 story outpost for the dry, hot Aussies to cool their heels and their thirst. I spent the better part of an afternoon drinking the suds with 3 Aussies, talking about how to automated chicken coops, believe it or not. With so much beer, I can't recall exactly what we drank, but I think it was a local favorite. If for some strange reason you are in this little part of New South Wales, drop in have a brew. This part of NSW is actually not far from the famed Hunter Valley, where some of the finest grapes are grown and best wines produced in NSW and in all of Oz.

It's absolutely packed at the weekends, a lot of the younger crowd dress like they're going to a wedding and it often closes way too early (10pm on a Sunday?!!).
