This HIE is remodeling, and I'm giving extra leeway for that and extra credit for having BACON,…read moreperfectly-cooked-and-delicious BACON, for breakfast. In fact, breakfast was by far the strongest part of our stay; I can't remember the last time an HIE actually had both regular and egg-white omelettes like they're supposed to. Otherwise, our room showed wear-and-tear, but the climate control worked well and I got a good night's sleep. p.s. Getting there is a challenge. We were using navigation and still overshot the entrance, because we didn't expect to go through the Walmart parking lot.

So they went and got a new room, lo and behold they walk into ANOTHER used room where they met a naked man! Third times the charm, they finally received a good room. The AC in our room had been turned off for some time, it was hot and muggy when we first walked in, but it was easily fixed by turning it back on. The last group had dirty towels in their bathroom. For breakfast, the flies were ATROCIOUS. please get a fly trap. I was eating my food with one hand and swatting them away with another. Overall, I've seen way better Holiday Inns. I get it's a pretty small town and they may be understaffed or something, hopefully it's not them just being lazy, so I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

It had home cooked stick to to your ribs food at every meal ... it had a plethora of historic memorabilia peppered through out the whole building ... inside and out ... it had nostalgia and at night the string lights that were hung ( which was way before its time like now ) gave off such ambiance that it would make any married couple new or novice want to be in simpler times ...... there was horse shoes outside for friendly competition .... An old historic wagon for perfect picture opportunities ... domino table with antique dominoes that I'm sure if they could talk would tell the stories of all who have visited ...there was a card table with decks of cards ready to be shuffled and spent out to those who knew the game of chance or maybe even some under the table exchanging of pocket change .... The whole experience was one of a kind ... memories were made that will play over and over in my head as long as I am walking on this earth .... ... mostly of my first born son that had the time of his life ( as he is no longer with us ) so blessed I have those memories !! What I am saying is if you have a family reunion or any family get together that you want to spend true quality time with and not spend an arm and a leg on over commercialized entertainment PLEASE consider taking a bite out of some of Texas histories first built hotels ...like the one in a long forgotten small town called Turkey Texas .... What you make of memories in time ..in a place that will stand still even if it is only for a while ....your heart will be full , your family will become closer and the rush of all the chaos in daily life will disappear and you will be so thankful that places like this really do still exist . Sincerely , S.Hollingsworth

The pool was standing water with no pump or filter going. The website said to let them know if you are celebrating anything special and they will help you celebrate! I told two staff members and nothing! The on-site restaurant was closed on our actual Anniversary so we are lucky we brought food! All in all I would not recommend this place to family or friends , we paid 200 dollars a night and it would have been nicer to stay in a hotel which had the amenities that were advertised! The staff were nice which is why I didn't make a huge deal while there!

We hiked the trails with our pup and the kids especially loved Sunrise trail at sunrise. It was so pretty! (Make sure to wear sturdy shoes on that trail because some parts are very rocky.) The front desk staff (Gita, Cat, Stephanie and the gentleman working this morning) were all very friendly. They also gave us a really cute complimentary Oklahoma park reusable bag. We were surprised the pool was still open. Beautifully maintained grounds. We love that it was also pet friendly. Make sure to check out the art gallery inside the lodge! It has some really beautiful paintings and sculptures. Can't wait to come back!
