An elderly friend of the family had his checking account at the Aurora, Ohio branch of Huntington. He asked if I would handle his financial affairs for him, so we went to the bank, I gave them my ID, contact information, power of attorney documentation, and filled out their necessary forms. The gentleman passed away, and in his will and trust, he left the remainder of the checking account to me. The lawyer handling the settling of the estate took a copy of the will and trust, along with a copy of the death certificate, and spoke with the bank branch manager. The manager told the lawyer that the bank had no name specified as the beneficiary of the account, and so it didn't matter what the will and trust stated, they would not close the account until it had processed through probate. That was May of 2023. The estate finished processing through probate in January of 2024, and the judge issued a directive to Huntington to release the funds to me. Huntington refused. They said that because I lived outside of the Aurora branch's "footprint", that I would need to supply them with a copy of my ID, a copy of the death certificate, and a detailed, notarized letter explaining why the account should be closed, and to whom the funds should be released. I replied that they should already have a copy of my ID from when I was set up with power of attorney, and the lawyer had given them a copy of the death certificate, and shown them the notarized, detailed copy of the will and trust last year. I asked why those pieces of documentation wouldn't suffice, and asked if they were routinely in the habit of losing or misplacing legal documentation. They did not respond to that, but just reiterated that I needed to supply the information again. I complied and was told that they now had everything they needed to close the account and issue a check. That was three weeks ago now, and I've yet to receive a check. The woman who has been my contact up to this point is no longer responding to my email requests for status updates. I wouldn't use this bank for my personal banking if you paid me. Any banking business that feels they can ignore a court-ordered directive to release funds to the legal owner of those funds is no bank that anyone should want to do business with. If this is an example of their customer service, I don't know how they are still in business. I could say more, but I'm afraid it wouldn't be in keeping with the guidelines that Yelp requires for a review. read more

I have had to deal with this bank for a civic organization that I was treasurer of. Very difficult to deal with. The branch manager would not add me as treasurer because of some documentation (entity) issue from 2002. I was not part of the organization back then. I will never use this bank for my own personal accounts. read more

I was a HELOC customer and they charge an annual fee. Well looking at the statement it appears the annual fee is charged to the line of credit. Nope, they bill it individually but they include it as a line item on your statement. So when I paid $40 over my minimum it didn't cover the $65 fee. The following month exactly 30 days later my auto payment hit again and paid the remaining $20. This scumbag company reported me 30+days late to the credit bureau and collections for essentially money that was paid to them that day. I never got a call, a letter, or an email saying I was late. There was no notification on my dashboard when I signed in every month. But the made sure to smear me on the exact 30th day late on $20 despite being paid that day. It took days to get an answer and I had to spend a few hours sorting through statements piecing it together myself because nobody could tell me why and no management would return my call. Despite no late payments in 3+ years with them they couldn't remove the late mark as a courtesy. The basically said it was my fault and they don't owe any phone calls, or email, or notifications you are late. I got one call it was from the collections dept 1 month later. I returned the call immediately and he said he had no idea why he was contacting me and to disregard. That's the only call I ever got. Now I'm preparing to get a loan to start a business and I run a credit checo and find I was reported 60 day late to TransUnion. So now I'm disputing it. This company ruined my 10yr record of over 1k payments on time. Perfect credit screwed by this circus of a bank. I paid 2k extra the month before and an extra regular payment but it ment nothing. All I needed was to know I was past due and I would of paid them no problem. I'm now trying to figure out how to take them to small claims or anything to return the favor. I have an appointment with a consumer rights attorney next week. Save yourself the heartache and stress and avoid this place all together.

They have called if there were ever a strange transaction come by and we never had a problem with anything. The downsides to this bank is that there is only one location, it is savings account only, there is no debit card, you still use a bank book, and the hours of operation are even less than other banks. While they have the best people working there (reason they get 4 stars), the bank itself is inconvenient for most people.
