Huntington Beach has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years - and in many ways it's improved for the kids and families who visit. Very intentional signage, recreation / playground, swing bench seating, and restroom facilities all make the beach-going experience better. Huntington Beach has less of a crowd in the Winter, but it is just as alluring a Summertime visits. Finally made it to the beach. I'd heard good things and the trip was worth it. Wide beach. Clean sand. Big rocks to climb and sit on. This beach is not like Headwaters, but it's nice. We took the long steps to get to and from the beach. This is below a nice park with newer restrooms and playground. Lots of parking. There was a long mat on the beach for handicapped walkers, strollers and wheelchairs, but I don't know how to access that. Was on the east end of the beach. read more

Could you imagine if this was like the Huntington Beach in Los Angeles? Over the years, the beach has become smaller in comparison to Lakeview and Edgewater, but it is fairly clean, white, and a beauty. I know they're renovating the top part for food and ice cream, similar to what Edgewater now has, through the Cleveland Metroparks, which is definitely a plus. I still think Bay can do a lot more with its lakefront; I have my ideas, but I imagine it would be expensive to do. It's a great area, though. read more

I wouldn't say I was wowed by this beach. I agree with the other reviewers here, it seems like there is quite a bit of trash around this area which really puts a damper on the lake experience. The water also looked quite dirty when I visited. I have been here on other occasions and I can say for sure the water quality is very inconsistent. Some days, the water looks pure and great, other days, it looks very cloudy and muddy. I do find that this beach is not too crowded compared to other locations, which is a good thing if you truly want to have time to yourself by the water. However, this beach may be inaccessible for some because you do need to walk down stairs in order to get right up to the lakefront. This is especially troublesome for those who are unable to use stairs for any reason. My personal favourite lakefront park in Cleveland is the Veterans Memorial Park in Avon Lake. I would recommend going there over here as it is even less crowded and that park tends to be much cleaner than here. I don't care whether or not you decide to come here since I still did have a nice time to unwind here - just don't be alarmed by the drawbacks I encountered while here. read more

We visit this beach often, we are avid lovers of the water and the beach. This beach is usually pretty clean and you can always find a spot to lay out. Parking can be a little crazy at times but there is always parking across the street. There are benches where you can watch the beach from, there are places where you can cook out, there are places where you can lay out. I mean it's basically a great beach location in a suburb of Cleveland. The ice cream hut is always delicious and welcoming on a hot summer day. The only downfall are the restrooms, they are pretty smelly and not cleaned. I would recommend not visiting these restroom facilities but if you gotta go you gotta go. This is a great place to take a walk, to have a cookout, to layout or to have a romantic walk on the beach with delicious ice cream in hand. read more

Out in Bay Village, Huntington Beach has several places to pop a seat and enjoy the gentle waves of Lake Erie. Huntington Beach has loads of character. There's a small local ice cream shop set up there (Honey Hut) and so much room to lay out. No fighting for beach territory here! Cabanas and beach chair rentals are also available when lifeguards are present. As far as a beach in Cleveland goes, Huntington is about one of the best you could ask for. Just be careful in how you plan your visit. The beach itself has some areas that are a little crowded with debris during certain times of the year, but hey, we live in Cleveland. It is what it is. The parking can be a little tight. During busy days, I equate this parking to the West Side Market. You'll just kind of drive around praying someone will leave. Many people also talk about the droves of teenagers who hang out there, but hey, as I said, its a beach. Consider a different place if you don't want to see teenagers. Overall, Huntington Beach is a clean, totally family friendly place to have a picnic, enjoy the water or toss the beachball around. We're lucky to have it! read more

For being so close to downtown Cleveland, OHIO of all places, Huntington is a great beach. It isn't trashy, it is relaxed, and pretty. You get a great view of the downtown, which is always a nice and romantic. My favorite part is the drive I get to make down Lake Avenue from Lakewood with my top down. It is one of my favorite spots to go when I need some alone time on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Although it is located off cliffs, there is a drive down to the beach so it is wheelchair accessible. read more

What a beautiful beach! Doesn't seem to be too crowded on weekday afternoons. There's a long stretch of sand and plenty of room to roam about. I saw several lifeguard chairs. No one was blasting music. It is a family-friendly, good stretch of Lake Erie. I haven't been here on the weekend and don't plan on it. But Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon in the summertime? Can you believe that in my entire life as a Cleveland resident, this is the first time I've ever been to Huntington Beach? I know, quite sad. In my defense, I hung out on the east side at Fairport Harbor and Headlands most of my life. I have to admit, I don't notice a huge difference between these three beaches. First of all, almost any beach in Northeast Ohio is going to more rocky than sandy, with lots of debris. That being said, we do have some pretty nice places to enjoy the lake! Huntington Beach is what most Clevelanders would call the "classiest" of all of them, and in some ways that is true, some not. I noticed right off the bat that we'd be dealing with the parking vortex of hell--my favorite. Crabby teenagers and stressed soccer mom's waiting 20 minutes for someone to leave to take their spot, while holding the rest of us up for what feels like a lifetime. Mildly annoying, but not worth ruining my day. (Note: I do give Edgewater and Headlands props for figuring out their parking situation, though.) I also noticed that it was *beyond* packed with the same kind of crowd you'd see at Headlands or Fairport. So, what's the difference? I'm not sure. They do have the science center and Mitchell's Ice Cream, so maybe that's what makes it... We tromped down about 150 steps to the beach and managed to cram ourselves into a small spot between sunbathers. Once situated, the beach was quite enjoyable! I think this is a place I'd like to hang out more on off-days and evenings, when the crowds are dissipated. Also, I can't wait to walk around a little more! The beach looks long and gorgeous, with lots to see and explore. The sand quality is probably the best you'll find around, besides maybe East Harbor a little more westbound. I'll definitely be back! Even though this beach has a couple of annoying things about it, no one's perfect. Overall, it's one of the best in Cleveland, for sure. read more

Enjoy it while it last folks. This sandy beach was 1/4 the size it was just a few years ago. I blame climate change, but obviously the water levels are significantly higher whether you like to believe science or not. There is a great ice cream shop and disc golf across the street. The high water levels left us sitting up against the tree line, and the bugs and flies were unbearable so we left early. Hopefully this isn't the future of this pristine beach. One of Cleveland's best up until my most recent visit. read more

Typically, when I go to the beach, I expect extreme crowds, dirty water and trash all over the sand. Huntington Beach was none of these things. I was ecstatic. Stuff that's good: (1) There's a lovely grassy park on your way down to the beach, complete with communal grills and an ice cream shop (2) The ice cream shop gives you gigantic scoops of ice cream for, like, two bucks (3) The beach area is narrow, but long, so there's space for everyone (4) You can see the Cleveland skyline from here. Being from NEO, I'm used to my fair share of gross Lake Erie beaches that tend to be more trash-heapy than anything else. Then one day I came here. Hearts in my eyes! It's clean! There's plenty of space, shaded and sunny, to lay out! The kiddo loves digging around in the sand and frolicking in the water which, for lake water, seems not unreasonably questionable. After you're done, there's an ice cream stand (it used to be Honeyhut, but I drove past the other day and it's now Mitchell's?) and plenty of grills, picnic tables, and shelters. Parking is a bit of a nightmare. A suggestion: either get there early and nab one of the shady spots close to the entrance, or park across the street on the grass and take the pedestrian tunnel down to the beach. And, if you're bringing kids in the middle of the summer, I've noticed that coming before 10ish ensures that you'll get a good spot on the beach and the place won't be overrun just yet with teenagers. Go pack a picnic and enjoy a very nice day at the beach. :) read more

Nothing to beach about... THE UP-SIDE: A wide, sprawling beach the runs along the bottom of a tall cliff-type hill. The beach is popular, clean, and watched over by lifeguards during regular hours. Along the top of the hill, at street level, runs a green park with many trees, swings, and picnic areas; including a pavilion with grills. To top things off, the park includes a "Honey Hut" ice cream stand that is justifiably popular during the summer. THE DOWN-SIDE: Hey, it's Lake Erie. The water can be a little cold and brownish at times. However, this place far exceeds "Edgewater Park;" which is closer in to Cleveland and doesn't seem as clean. THE SUM-IT-UP: Go here to swim with the kiddies, ogle the girls in bikinis, and have a nice picnic. It's clean, fun, and quite picturesque for Cleveland! read more

This is great beach. Lots of room to lay out. This year they added umbrellas along the beach so if you get here early enough you won't have to bring yours. They are spots to cook out. Picnic tables. They have a spot you can grab some ice cream and food. Great spot to hang. My only complaint is they need to drag the beach more. read more

This beach is ok. Nothing special. The actually beach portion is very narrow, there isn't a lot of room to fit the masses. Also, the sand is terrible quality. Lots of rocks and shells. Generally looks dirty. The park portion is much better. They have plenty of picnic benches, and a nice pavilion. The rangers are always patrolling which adds a level if security. If you have the option, go to Edgewater instead. read more

We stopped here first thing in the morning on our trip, just so we could say we saw the beach. It seemed like a super nice area. There was a woman doing yoga on the rocks down by the water and several people running, which makes me think it's a nice spot for recreation and relaxation. Huntington Beach is the seperated little gem of the Metroparks system. Its tucked away in Bay Village and has some really great, but sometimes crowded beaches to bask in the 10 minutes of sunshine the CLE area gets each year. There are plenty of covered pavilions for your picnicking needs, too. If you just want to go for a stroll you can grab some ice cream from the Honey Hut Ice Cream and use the various trails throughout the park. I would also suggest you cross Lake Rd, and see the other less used portion of the park that includes Hungtington Playhouse, the Lake Erie Nature & Science center, and a really nice Italian restaurant next to the play house called Vento La Trattoria. While you're there check out the small art gallery called BAYarts (formerly Baycrafters). read more

I love taking the kids here in the summer, HOWEVER, the flies are HORRIFIC!! If you go on an overcast day, you'll get bit to high heaven!! The really super sunny days are better, without so many dang flies. The water isn't terrible either. I mean, it's still Lake Erie, but you won't find floating hypodermic needles like you will at Edgewater Park. Thumbs up!! read more

Many of the other reviews are old, so perhaps something has changed in the last few years, but we went last weekend and the one star yelp says "Eek!" and that would sum up my review quite nicely. A number of people have indicated that compared to other Cleveland beaches, or considering how close it is to downtown or convenient to westlkake, etc., it's pretty good. I think a review is not a relative thing, either it is good or bad and not "it's the best in the area." So does it deserve 4 stars as the best in the area since it doesn't have dead fish and hypodermic needles floating in the water? Then, depending how low the bar is set, anything could get 4 stars. I grew up near a 4-5 star fresh water beach and believe me, this ain't it folks. This is not how it is in Chicago, Baltimore, Toronto, or even Toledo. It was a Sunday around 3:00 when we got there and i thought we might miss much of the crowds...wrong in a big way. It was extremely crowded. We were there 2 hours before i noticed families leaving, but then lots of large groups of teenagers arrived, so the crowd was about the same. The beach is vey small and narrow with few trash cans which were overflowing. I watched as 3 different families ate fast food on the beach and left behind KFC cups, straws and McDonalds cardboard boxes and bags...Yuck! I walked to the edge of the water with my 2 young boys and found a large, thick shard of glass on top of the mud. This is so unacceptable for a public beach. Also, virtually everyone around us was smoking and none thought anything of putting out the butts in the sand and leaving them there! Who does this? There are babies playing with buckets and shovels all around them!!! Just rude and lazy beyond belief. I was told that the metroparks were doing a good job managing this beach with little resources and had loads of volunteers that clean the beaches. Why not do something to prevent the filth to begin with? Everything i mentioned are symptoms of a poorly managed beach which can be addressed with little to no resources. There is a picnic area right next to the beach, why not require people to eat there??? They should have "no littering" signs and signs showing no cigarette butts with large fines and more trash cans. Why not charge a small fee to help pay for real beach cleaning machines and patrolling? It's not possible that volunteers can do it all. I'd recommend to just walk around the park and go to the nature center there and avoid this disgusting little overcrowded beach with entirely too many smokers and litter bugs. Or go in the early morning and evening when these people aren't there and all the volunteers have picked up all their trash! If this is the best Cleveland can do, it's time they raise the bar. read more

This is a great little park/beach just north of Huntington nature reserve. I love to park at the reserve down by the science center, and take a nice walk over to the beach area. It has several levels where you can sit on chairs or benches and look out at the water if you don't want to go down to or sit on the sand. I originally discovered this spot by accident in the fall (early October) so it wasn't crowded at all, and the sunset was beautiful. The beach was pretty clean and it was so calm and quiet in the evening. Now that summer is here it is significantly busier, but that doesn't keep us away. My husband and I love to come here to go for walks at least once a week, and look out at and listen to the water. It's a really nice spot and we're so happy it's there. We moved up here from Columbus and had a rough time adjusting, but we fell in love with evenings at this beach, and this has become one of our absolute favorite places in Cleveland. read more

Huntington Beach was the only public beach owned by the Metroparks before they took over Edgewater and Wendy Island. It has always been my favorite beach to go to in the Cleveland area. You would never find things in the sand like used syringes, used condoms or feminine hygiene products there. They would rake the sand every morning with heavy machinery and make it so nice. This is a very long beach and during the low tides, it is fairly wide. The lone tree hanging out on the beach is one of my favorite sights here. There are several stone piers that you can walk out on and relax in the sun. They have trained lifeguards there, an ice cream shack, changing rooms, public showers (These are Chas M's favorite sight when he is there), and across the street in the overflow parking lot is more beautiful Metroparks, a Playhouse, a sweet little Italian Bistro, a coffee shop (Mojo's) and stop in at Bay Arts and check things out. If you haven't been outside of Ohio, you will convince yourself that this is a nice beach! It's a 'region-centric' kind of thing. Dirty dark sand, scummy driftwood, an old concrete and rock pier that could have been built during the Lincoln era, and enough dirty water & bacteria health warnings to make you want to swim at an indoor YMCA pool that's been pissed in more than you want to know! This freshwater beach is like a mud puddle, compared to the great salt water beaches along our coastlines! You want a REAL beach? There's Malibu, Montauk Point, the Gulf Coast, OBX, the Jersey Shore, etc. Next time you're at Huntington Beach, stare out at the dirty, sludge strewn water that we dump much of our human waste in, and promise yourself to never so much even dip your big toe in there! read more

If you're young, come here at night in the summer for a sunset with your friends, and to catch the local kids playing guitar on the picnic tables. Have a snack at the Honey Hut ice cream stand, stroll the beach and gawk at the lighthouse (which is actually an old water tower). read more

We went to this beach on a Friday during August. We got there around 10:30 (it was a hot day) and parking was easy and simple. There are changing rooms and bathrooms. The beach was not too crowded and the water was nice and refreshing. When we left around 2:30 the parking seemed a little busier (as did the beach) but there was plenty of space for people to lay out and we didn't feel suffocated. Also there is a place to get food ($2 pretzels, $2 water bottles, and $2.50 ice cream - Mitchells!) which was super convenient and exactly what we needed. We also ran through and around the park the next morning, and that was a well shaded and safe run (sidewalks and cross walks/ signals) Overall, coming from a beach town, this beach was plenty to lie out and enjoy some nice water. read more

As someone from central ohio where there are no beaches I loved this place! It's dirty (cigarette buttes in the water),but has nice piers and you can sit and enjoy watching seagulls or the bizarre people arguing over how to spell "Funyun". Seriously,the funyun arguement actually happened and it was at Huntington Beach. That alone should get this place 4 stars. read more
