We were in the area for a festival and read that this park was great for dogs and had a dog park area. We walked up the HUGE San Francisco hill to the park, and then the whole park is a hill. The park is beautiful, there are sidewalks throughout, a nice playground for kids, a dog park area with a fence around it, and a summit area. Near the summit there was a coffee truck, Native Twins Coffee, that was perfect to grab a coffee or matcha. The dog park was a good size, it's long and fenced in, but on the hill so if you're planning on playing fetch/catch with your dog it'll either be throwing up hill or chasing it downhill. There were some trees, so there was some shade in the area too, plus a water fountain in case your dog gets thirsty. I will say, there were dogs all over the park off leash, not just in the turfed dog area. The dogs that were off leash were well behaved, but we kept an eye on our dog (on leash) and the others around us just to be safe. The summit is really pretty with some areas to sit down and plenty of shade. The view was great, and there were groups of people there for a birthday party. The playground area also had some seating nearby and another party was happening in that area. Despite the giant hill, this was a very cute park. I'd definitely stop by again. read more

We really enjoy coming to Lafayette Park Playground this morning for an early Easter egg hunting event--it's quite unique compared to other playgrounds in the city. The layout is more challenging and perfect for little explorers who love to climb, balance, and stay active. My 3-year-old always finds something new to do, and it keeps them engaged for a long time. I also appreciate that babies aren't left out--there are designated areas where younger kids can safely play too. The restroom is conveniently located and clean, which is a big plus for families. That said, some of the rocky edges can be a bit risky for adventurous kids, so it's definitely a place where you'll want to keep a close eye on them at all times. The only downside is parking--it can be pretty tough to find a spot, especially during busy times. Overall, it's a fun and exciting playground that's great for kids of different ages, as long as you're prepared for a bit of supervision and a parking hunt! read more

Lafayette park is an iconic location in San Francisco and a place that serves regular park goers, those who want to play tennis, those with kids, as well as our four legged friends. The park is beautifully maintained, with clean walking paths, manicured gardens, and enough benches and seating spaces. You can easily find a little corner to make your own for a bit. There is a rather large and modern kids playground and even more large grassy areas, both for those who want to lounge and for the dogs that want to run around. I'm rediscovering many parks I frequented in my twenties with new perspective as a parent. Back then, I knew nothing about this park's monkey bars. Today I can tell you that these are top notch, the ground underneath is soft in case you fall, and on the early September day when we visited the breeze kept us cool under the bright sun at midday. read more

Lafayette Park has it all: tennis courts, play structure, dog park, central location, bathrooms, open space, and city views. It's in a very nice neighborhood, Danielle Steel's mansion is across the street on Washington. This park is very similar to Alta Plaza Park but I think it might be a little bigger. I like it to come and sit on a lawn and read. It's close to Fillmore on the west end so easy to get lunch and take it to the park and Whole Foods is close on the east end on California and Franklin. It's definitely a neighborhood park and lots of people flock especially on nice days to hang out on the grass. read more

In the bustling mixed-use neighborhood of Pacific Heights, Lafayette Park covers a good 4 block's worth of land to create a green space for the locals. Popular with walkers, joggers, and dogs, the park's location at the top of a hill affords visitors a few casual views of the bay, and features walking paths, plenty of places to sit, and some mature trees for shade. Well-maintained for an urban park, Lafayette is not as widely used as other sprawling grassy areas in other parts of the City. Still for reference, there's a Whole Foods just a couple blocks away, so riff raff is at a minimum, and the only scrunchy faces a visitor must endure are more likely connected to a French bulldog than a transient spun out on skante and a $2 bottle of Kentucky Dale blended whiskey. read more

There is a playground for kids and a dog area at the very top. I am reviewing only the fenced in dog play area. It's a nice park, however, some folks inside the dog fence areas are a bit too busy with their phones and not paying attention and picking up their dog's bizness, so if you wander toward the edge of the fenced in area, you can see some amber scattered about. For this reason, I don't always bring my little one here anymore. read more

Hanged out at Lafayette park today. Lots of fun interactive games for the kids to play in. Lots of benches and seats to sit on and the atmosphere is pretty nice. Down the street you can see the bay and ocean, other views are of Sutro tower and one of the famous mansions. I recently grabbed a sandwich from a nearby deli and schlepped up a huge hill, huge. But alas, this park is perfection. Perched up a hill, I was told there were views on the other side of where I was sitting and I would say that's correct although I didn't see with my own eyes. I did spy a great playground for kids, plenty of shady spots under trees perfect for the SF heatwave. Overall, a wonderful park, green and clean and spacious nestled in a great neighborhood! read more

This is a gorgeous park and it is especially great for people with dogs. There is a nice little dog area fenced on 3 sides where the dogs can play together. The entrance is open but none of the dogs seem to have an issue with that. Most of the people are nice and most of the dogs are well behaved. The park itself is gorgeous with great views of the city. The landscaping is lovely and you will always find a group doing Tai-Chi or people exercising and the top of the park. There is a nice playground area for kids to play and plenty of benches and tables for people to relax at. In my opinion, this is one of the best parks in the city! read more

If you are looking for a park that isn't 'too crowded' (yet) this is definitely a good place to spend a day laying in the park with your social bubbles. It's not the biggest park, but big enough for them to have social circles drawn out, which I really appreciate. They have views of the city and is definitely more family friendly compared to your Dolores Park type situations. As I've gotten older , I've Definitely grown to appreciate the more chill vibe that this park offers. They have public bathrooms for use, but had no soap. So bring sanitizer just in case. There's an on-leash/off-leash dog area, so fun place to bring the pup. They have playgrounds for the kids too! In my experiences here, people were pretty relaxed with masks when they were in their bubbles, so go at your own risk and comfort level. read more

I was in the area early for an appointment and since there was no waiting allowed in the office's waiting area, I decided to take a walk in the neighborhood. I then reached Lafayette Park, a park which I've driven by many times but have never walked in. It's a large park in Pacific Heights that covers four square blocks bordered by Washington, Laguna, Sacramento and Gough Streets. Walking up the staircase, the Park sits on a hill with views of the Marina district, Alcatraz and San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz, Buena Vista Park, and Twin Peaks. There were people enjoying the open green spaces, playing tennis in the two courts and walking the park. There's a nice children's playground in the center of the park, but it is currently closed due to Covid. A very nice neighborhood park that was clean and inviting that I wouldn't mind visiting again. read more

This is such a lovely park, and it brings back so many fond memories. Lafayette is a gem of San Francisco, and offers room for so many fun experiences. For example, you can - Cozy up on the grass and read a book - Eat lunch at the tables - Play frisbee with friends - Let your kids play in the jungle gym - Bring your dog to the dogpark - Head up the path to see the beautiful view of the bay Lafayette is a pretty safe park (although you always have to be careful), and it attracts a variety of people from Pac Heights and neighboring communities. Lafayette Park is the #2 reason that I moved to Pac Heights (Fillmore Street is #1). This legendary park is just so pretty! The top of the park provides awesome views of the bay to the north and city views to the east and south. The grassy southwestern part of the park provides an awesome picnic area on sunny days. My dog and I enjoy playing in the doggy area on the southeast side of the park. Seriously, the dogs that come to this park are just way too cute! The newly remodeled playground is perfect for kiddos. Picnic tables nearby are great for parents that need to sit near yelling distance of their children. The best part about this park is that it is very well kept and meticulously maintained. With so many "dingy" areas of SF, it's nice to be able to rely on this park as a destination! read more

One of my fav parks in sf! Love how there's a dog park here, and the park is spacious and clean. I played tennis here, and there are only two courts, so waiting is to be expected. I wish they had more courts, but since they don't, please be considerate of others waiting for while you play aka don't hog the courts for hours. read more

Perfect spot to find some shade under a tree and enjoy a sandwich with a friend, while still physical distancing. The views are amazing. One side of the park is a view of the bay with a post card Alcatraz view. On the other side of the hill, you can see a crisp shot of the Salesforce Tower. Beware. The views are sweet because you're on a hill. Which means you need to get up the hill. Which also means, if the only exercise you've had this quarantine has been to the fridge and back (guilty on that one) it will be a fun challenge to get to the top. So worth it though! The playground is open if you need to get your little rascals tired out, too! A mix of metered and residential parking around the area. $2 for an hour isn't too bad. Just enough time to sit, eat, contemplate life, go on Yelp, etc etc. read more

The dog area is safe for off leash, but it is not gated so if your dog is a dasher, keep your dog on a leash. Parking was surprisingly easy to find. Do you remember the scene in "Wuthering Heights" when Laurence Olivier filled Merle Oberon's arms with bunches and bunches of heather up on Penistone Crag as the ultimate act of romantic yearning? Well, Hollywood gossipmongers claimed Merle hated Larry because she said he spit when he talked. Also, heather isn't exactly lavender, but they both grow like weeds in the Moors. Well, don't even think about recreating that classic movie scene here because the lavender makes a nice aromatic fringe as it falls along Sacramento Street. They have laws against that, don't you know? I'm not a local to this charming neighborhood, a denizen who is able to enjoy the park on a daily basis with a French toy poodle, neutered of course, but I have been aware of it by its formerly seedy reputation as a cruising hangout after dark for wanton men. Back in those days, I always navigated around the park even if I had an opportunity to enter it for fear of being propositioned. Or maybe not propositioned. I don't remember which offended me more at the time. Now I'm envious of my friend Maggie who lives barely half a block away because the $10 million renovation has given this four-block park a facelift that should be the envy of any San Francisco neighborhood (photo: http://bit.ly/14ibfJm). Yet, I noticed it was fraught with controversy over what elements should be redesigned. There's a small meadow area that looks like it's being set up for public performances since they added terraced grass seating to make it feel like you should perform Hamlet's soliloquy (photo: http://bit.ly/1775Rqk). One of the most pristine parks in a San Francisco Neighborhood. Hey, it's Pacific Heights, you know...only the best slopes for neighbors and their dogs and their kids. There are free tennis courts towards the top of the hill. There's a dog run/play area that fenced so the balls won't go loping off onto Sacramento or Gough Streets. Great place to socialize with dog lovers and their parade of pets. The view of the Pac Heights homes is very, very nice on either the South or North sides. You can also sunbathe on the grassy slope on the south side. The kids play area is shielded with fencing so dogs can't get into the swing or other play areas. Well planned with drought-resistant plants as well as older established trees, Lafayette Park offers a family--oriented ambiance in the midst of the City. read more

Serene, relaxing, awash in your own world and taking time out to hear yourself and your thoughts.... This is Lafayette Square, just across the street from Danielle Steel's expansive estate....a quiet place for repose and a sanctuary for contemplation and reflection....also highly recommended for afternoon napping! I love it here; it's simply sublime.... taking a book or coming for chill time with my more introspective, reflective-type friends.... it's stunning, atop a hill in Pac Heights. Incidentally, the first time ever I parked on steep grade, about 60 degrees to the hill itself, just around the corner....bit frightening and exhilirating all at once! PS There are restroom facilities here, and the large square is a great mini-hike smack dab in the center of the city. Come get lost in yourself when you arrive at this oasis....a fave for dog-owners. read more

Saturday afternoon, sun is out, cookies in hand, great company. We had time to kill before dinner so we decided to come here to chillax. Some tips before heading here: 1) bring a blanket- you'll want to lay on the grass and rest your eyes like some people or as my friend would say, lay the f*ck down and stop being so alert like a dog 2) bring sunglasses- cover your eyes from the sun; cover your eyes from dogs approaching you to lick your face; cover your eyes from watching attractive people tan half naked in the sun; cover your cougar eyes for drooling over little boys with rock hard abs run around the park 3) bring food/drinks because the nice view and weather could have you staying out here for hours Overall, this park has it all. There's an area for dogs to roam around and make new friends with other dogs and humans. There's a play structure area for kids. There's a nice open lawn for small groups or large groups to get together and relax. There's flat areas and hills with endless paths for you to run around and get your workout on. There's clean bathrooms. There's a nice open space for bbq, bring your own grill. The crowd is similar to the crowd at Dolores but the "mature" version. read more

Awesome awesome park!! Just hosted my pup's 10th birthday party here over the weekend and it was AMAZING! The weather was beautiful and we could see straight down to the water from our picnic area. I called ahead 2 weeks in advance and reserved both time slots for the picnic benches. There are 4 reserve-able areas at the Park - two are close to the playground, and two are up the hill. We opted for the option up the hill because my dog is scared of children. Each slot you reserve is $32 and its first come, first serve.. so make sure you reserve early during peak picnic/park season. Fortunately, November doesn't seem to be super popular. :) The park itself is not technically off-leash, but there is an off-leash area close by. It's really nice, even if it is fake grass and all the dogs had an great time! Our pups played together and were able to burn off the calories of our doggie liver cake. Very spacious area up at the top of the hill, though there isn't much grass there. It didn't end up being too much of an issue because there was still some open space to set up a playpen for the pups and ladder ball for the humans. Definitely recommend for future events and more than enough space to accommodate groups of 25+! read more

I grew up going to this park so it has a special place in my heart. It's definitely one of the safest parks I've been to in San Francisco. Lots of people walking their dogs, kids playing, and people baking in the sun. They have definitely cleaned it up since I've been a kid. Clean bathrooms too which is super rare nowadays. Definitely check it out if you want a safe place for runs and dog walking. It makes me wish I still lived in the City.. read more

Very nice park! Very green...feel at peace here while the little ones play. Tiny climbing wall, a few slides (today was wet so we didn't really get to go on those), a water play area, swings for the big kids and little ones...clean restroom facilities, drinking fountain for kids and dogs, gated playground area, several picnicking areas, lovely kept grass, and a nice view! Very clean park, nice neighborhood folks, and not crowded (today, can't speak for nice, hot days!). The hyperactive kids had a blast. Left as soon as it rained but enjoyed it! Ate my sandwich and sat down on what looked like a dry seat - whoops! Wet bottom!! Touch the seat before you sit, even when it looks like it's dry! Also, park rules - all dogs on leashes. Sign on the tree says so! Another tip- hardly any parking. Your best bet is to find parking wherever you can and walk! They'll (the kids) will appreciate you for it!!! Enjoy! read more

This is my favorite park in all of San Francisco. I've moved far far away from it and miss it so much. I use to go every weekend with my dog and it is just beautiful. I love the hills and how serene it feels. The people that usually visit this park are folks that live in Pac Heights and Nob Hill so there tends to be a lot less Dolores Park hippies and wafting smells of marijuana circling you. It's an absolute gem of a park in the city. A perfect place for dogs to meet and mingle, a perfectly romantic scroll with your sig. other, as well as an amazing place to exercise (those hills, though). The views out toward the Marina are just spectacular and unlike anything you can find in any other city. My perfect Saturday is stopping at the Trader Joe's (on Hyde & California St.) or Whole Foods (in Pac Heights) and picking up a picnic and then meeting friends for an afternoon snack and reading sesh in the park. Lafayette is a beautiful park where all can have a good time. Dog owners, parents, individuals/couples are always out and about enjoying the park no matter what the weather. The dog park has its own separate area from the main park, though it is not completely gated all around (so keep an eye on your doggy!). It's fake grass and is always super clean when we go. There's a great playground and seating area for kids/parents, and there's usually some sort of celebration going on -- which attests to how great the area is. You also have a great view of the city since you're on a bit of a hill, with large plots of clean cut grass everywhere around if you're feeling like a picnic. The park is beautifully maintained and is one of our favorites. Everyone is always super friendly and our dog always has a great time coming here. read more
