This is a great alternative to the cafes and restaurants on site which are typically overpriced and mediocre tasting since the garden's a tourist destination. Access to the NYBG grounds is free on Wednesdays, so you can access the Greenmarket and enjoy the garden for free (with the exception of special exhibits like the Frida Kahlo one that is currently on display). There are ample tables, chairs, and park benches to rest at and enjoy what you've bought. :)

The store seems to be focusing more on expensive organic products, but unfortunately the quality control on some of the cheeses has gone down. I've purchased several cheeses here recently that tasted over-aged and strongly ammoniated. Properly aged European cheeses should have complex, nutty, earthy flavors -- not a harsh ammonia taste or smell. This has happened multiple times now. One of the biggest issues is that everything is prepackaged in plastic, so you cannot properly smell or assess the cheese before buying it. You only discover the problem once you get home and open the package. A good cheese counter should allow customers to smell or sample cheeses, especially imported and aged varieties.
