I have a groomer for my shih tzu (9 months old) but she was unavailable and so I thought I'd try here as my sister in law uses it. I was really pleased to be able to book in with short notice and was told to bring Alfie in at 10am. When I arrived we were shown the groom parlour and it was ok but I didn't like how many dogs were already there in cages. I asked for Alfie to have a "teddy bear cut" (quite common for shih tzus) but she didn't know what this was. I explained and she said "like a westie?" I said that that would be ok and she said it would be £45 and told me Alfie would be ready at 3 pm I was a little shocked and didn't like the thought of him being in a cage for hours but against my better judgement left him. I was called at two to be told that he wouldn't be ready until 4!!!
I turned up at 4 and had to wait for a further 20 minutes. Alfie was very pleased to see me and she told me that I need to train him to hold his head still for his fringe cut!!!! What??!! My other groomer hasn't had an issue with him! But he looked ok so I paid my money and frankly was glad to be out of there.
Alfie is uneven but clean. I wouldn't use here again and for small dogs, I don't think the groomer is particularly skilled.
My normal groomer makes a particular time slot for Alfie and sticks to it. She has no more than two dogs at a time and that's because she's waiting for pick up when she takes her next client. She's cheaper (£30) and Alfie comes back with an amazing groom and smells beautiful for a week!! Most importantly Alfie is happier with her. In fact she said he's the easiest pup she's ever done!!
I would never go back to The Huntsman and wouldn't recommend anyone else to. If you're looking for somewhere for your pooch to have a bath and comb while you have the day out I guess it's ok but NOT a nice experience grooming parlour. Sorry :-( read more
