"If we don't have it you don't need it" is their store motto and they have it all. Three stories of guns, cold beer, wedding dresses, kerosene outside, butcher shop, homemade fruit pies, clothing, hardware and I even got a short term fishing license. Everyone is super helpful, smiles and greets you with a smile and a hello. They have national brands and local stuff too like local raw honey, Coca Cola products and Moxie a local Maine soda. Upstairs there is a gun store, fishing tackle, Men's and womenswear including wedding dresses and downstairs there are guns and, tools, hardware supplies (we got a drill bit to drill into concrete) and everything else. There is parking in front of the store but if the lot is full there is more space across the street. I think this is the only store.within 20 miles but the prices seem decent and not your typical up charges for convince. There is a customer service department that handles lotto winners and licenses. Truly one of the nicest people ever works there. The wine selection was not great but wines snobs can't always get what they want. The butcher shop was solid. Super nice guys there with big smiles and hellos. Just courteous people there from the staff to the shoppers. I like this store! Oh and I got a homemade blueberry pie! read more

It's overpriced for sure but it's a unique experience and worth a stop if you're in the area

I have been to this unique store when I was a kid. Was out antiquing the other day and stopped at Hussey's. It is always a hoot to see a lot of hunting gear, gardening supplies, regular groceries and a wedding gown Bridal section. It looked like their inventory of gowns was extensive. You have to make an appointment to say "yes to the dress". There is so much to look at here. I do miss the older items that used to be here though, such as the chain sold by the foot that came up through the floor. If you need something then Hussey's should have it. If they don't then you probably don't need it anyway. If you are in the area, I recommend visiting this unique store. read more

Hussey's was a huge part of my summers in Windsor as a kid. We used to go up multiple times each summer to visit my aunt and uncle who lived just down the road. It was always my favorite part of the trip. It's a great place to just mosey around, looking at all of the random stuff they have, there are wedding gowns on the second floor, guns, taxidermy stuff, there's also the essentials like milk, bread, soda, lottery tickets, etc. Pretty much anything you could need at any given time, Hussey's has it. read more

Where would we be without Hussey's? Oh God...I don't even want to think about it. Hussey's has everything. True story. EVERYTHING. A gas station out front, appliances on the lower level, groceries on the first floor, guns and clothing (what's up, wedding gowns?!) on the second floor. The fenced in field down the road with all the deer? Pick out your dinner, and they'll kill it for you. (I just threw up a little in my mouth). Hussey General Store is a very Maine place! It's one of them places you have to see , because there are so few of them left! They really do have MOST everything! From guns , to clothing , to foods its a fun place to go to and see real Maine! Oh, you will find the best meets around!! On the downside of things, most things are over priced! and very very slow to check out!!!!!! and parking is not good at all! All of that said, check it out its worth a visit!! read more

They don't sell guns to out of state residents as a "store policy." I obviously can understand following federal guidelines, but not selling a .22 rifle to someone out of policy is bad for business. Thumbs down as a "gun store." I was going to a big box retailer and my family encouraged me to go here, waste of time, don't buy local apparently. read more

There aren't enough words to describe how much I love Husseys and how it's a must stop when I'm up at my family's lakefront cabin in Somerville, Maine. This place has everything just like the sign says...guns (first floor), wedding dresses( second floor), cold beer (first floor). If they don't have it, you don't need it and I've never NOT been able to find things here. They have a full service butcher and deli and I swear, I've gotten some wicked awesome cuts of steak and venison from here that go great on the grill. They have a beer and wine selection that rivals a lot of local liquor stores. No hard liquor though. Downstairs is a full stocked ACE Hardware department. Many last minute cabin and dock repairs have been completed with dash-out-to-Hussey's purchases. They also have a wonderful selection of plants and flowers for those Maine gardens. I don't get the gripe about parking. Full lot in front and to the side and also a huge open lot across the street. The cashiers are my favorites, they've been working there since the place opened and one of them always remembers me and my younger brothers from when we were little. It's a great place. read more

My 100th review is dedicated to a one of a kind place. Where else can you get a gun, a local craft brew and a wedding gown in one store? A lazy Saturday drive had us passing Hussey's today so of course we had to stop. This isn't somewhere I'd go out of my way to come, but if you're around the area or driving by, it's worth a stop. They have three floors of things you'd never expect to find in the same place. While we didn't buy anything but a couple of beers, it was definitely fun to walk around and see all the funky things they had to offer. I hate to be a grumpasaurus on this but I was completely underwhelmed by Hussey's. Granted, I did not need it to be a general store. I didn't need band-aids, or beer, or guns, or anything else for that matter. I thought it would be kooky enough to be a tourist attraction. Not really so. There's nothing that weird about it. Yes, there are wedding dresses. (A few on a rolling rack upstairs.) They just have a ton of stuff. It must be very convenient if you live nearby, but other wise, not worth checking out. I came to Hussey's on a whim with my maid of honor (after the weather forced us to cancel of white water rafting plans) to check out some wedding dresses and was pleasantly surprised! We didn't expect much from a convenience store that has a bridal section, but I ended up leaving with some excellent ideas and got to try on a ton of dresses. I forget the attendant's name, but she was super nice and very helpful. We were the only people in the section so she just told us to look around and pull whatever I wanted to try on. I bet I picked about 8-10 dresses and found 2 that I really liked. Amazing prices too, my favorite dress was only $850! It was my first time trying on dresses so I had no intention of buying anything, and the attendant did not seem to mind at all. I really appreciated all her kindness and would definitely recommend any bride with a low budget to check this place out. read more

Terrible. The store is filthy, and products are almost always picked off shelves either expired or covered in dust and dirt. The floors seem like they are never swept or mopped as they are always coated in dirt and mud, and the products in the freezers are always freezer burnt and covered in chunks of ice and frost to the point in which cashiers can't even ring it up without scraping it off first. The prices of these items are ridiculously high for the extremely low quality the management is so comfortable with. Not to mention the obvious rat infestation. The packages of gray and green rotten meat they try to peddle out to customers in the meat section can often be spotted torn open by the rats that frequent the place, and it's also common knowledge that the rats break into the butchers to tear at the meat -- but, of course, that won't stop the store from selling it after cutting off the parts the rats got at. Bags of pet food have also been torn open by the rats frequently and sold to customers at a measly discount, which isn't saying much considering everything Hussey's sells is at a ridiculously jacked up price. The food they keep in the warmer stays there for hours and hours, being landed on by flies and growing old and crusty, only for it to be marked down by the fourth or fifth hour and sold to some poor sap who has no idea how long it's been there. The baked goods stay there for weeks, and the sandwiches in the fridges nearly ever get switched out (because nobody in their right mind would buy them). You see a new face at the cash register almost every time you walk in because the store can't hook in any good employees to stay longer for a month due to the disgusting conditions and terrible, reckless management. Those who have stayed are unenthusiastic, rude, and don't want to be there whatsoever, and I can't blame them. They spent all that money to get new gas pumps and an ugly new sign, but they wouldn't spare half as much to get their store in even halfway decent condition. The 'rustic charm' of selling wedding gowns and guns can only get you so far when your establishment is filthy, infested with rats, has terribly rude and inept management and staff, and is known for selling rotten meat. I typically have had good experiences at Hussey's, having purchased many of my firearms from them in the past. They won't be getting any of my gun related business in the future though. A gentleman that often works the gun counter is about the most unpleasant salesman I've ever encountered. It's almost as if I'm interrupting some much more important business that he has to take care of by asking questions. Just today I stopped, hoping to pick up a pistol I had shipped to them that had been delivered earlier in the day. When I asked about it he told me that he hadn't had time to write it up and that it would be ready tomorrow. That's fair enough but he was pretty rude about it and that isn't fair. He then proceeded to have a nice long conversation with another customer about all things unrelated. Presumably more important than collecting the $30 they charge for transfers, higher than any other FFL in the area, but which I'm happy to suffer for good service and selection. I typically buy at least one gun a year from Hussey's, do all my transfers there and nearly all of my business when it comes to reloading supplies, likely spending 1200 to 1500 dollars a year out there on guns and supplies alone. This guy is typically pretty rude to me, and this was the last straw. Maybe he just doesn't like me. In any case once I pick up this gun I'll be taking my, not insignificant, business elsewhere where it will be shown to be appreciated. read more

Terrible customer service. Bought a staple gun a few weeks ago here and the guy that sold them to us sold us the staples as well. He assured us he grabbed us the ones we needed. Went to use it today and they don't work with the staple gun he sold us. So no big deal we drove the 35 minutes to go and exchange them and we were told without the receipt we couldn't even exchange them. They cost 4.00 really??? So needless to say we won't be going back. If they want to lose customers over 4.00 I'd rather go somewhere else. read more
