This farm has made its way to our weekly roster of the farms we visit to get our produce. Everything grown on the farm is fresh and the best part it is Certified Organic. It is one of the very farms in the area that grows organic corn and they are so sweet!! The tomato and pepper selection is incredible. Their melons are so sweet and juicy as well. Some of the best restaurants in Boston source from here so you may be eating their produce without even knowing it. If you can't make it to their farm in Concord MA. they have stands in 3 different farmer's market locations now. There is the one @ Central Square in Cambridge, another @ Union Square in Somerville & the 3rd is @ The Belmont Farmers Market. They don't bring everything to these markets but they do haul a lot of their most popular items. They showcase a wide variety of produce @ these farmers markets. All their green veggies are Exceptional & picked fresh & taste way better than you can get at any supermarket. They also have different varieties of produce that you may not have even seen or heard of before. The corn, melons, tomatoes, Basil, summer squash, zucchini, pumpkins, peppers & winter squash are real Stand outs here. Hutchins Farm is located on top of a hillside that you look down to view the crops below. The Parking is Free! They cultivate 35 acres of vegetables, about an acre of small fruit, and 8 acres of apples. In addition to their 63 acre main farm, Hutchins also rents 2 properties from the town of Concord. They also sell small vegetable plants so you can grow your own food at home too. What is not sold is donated to numerous charitable organizations. If you aren't a fan of fruits & veggies, maybe you've never tried farm fresh picked organic produce not trucked in from 3000 miles away. Maybe you've never tried produce without sprays & all sorts of chemicals & pesticides & delivered a week later to the grocery store. Simply put- I love this farm. For many, many years I've bought starter tomato plants (among a number of other things) they always are healthy and highly productive. I worked @ Hutchins Farm 25+ yrs ago. It was organic at that time as it is now. I don't believe I've ever felt such a strong connection with the earth.The two brothers that "we" received our daily info r what was to be harvested that day, were extremely good natured.Their primary concern was our ability to dexterously harvest at the correct time. On a soggy Tuesday afternoon, covered in the day's drizzling rain, I ate the most delicious tomato I've ever had in my life. Thanks to Tatsu I, I got the grand tour of Lincoln and Concord, which included a stop at Hutchins Farm. Set atop a hill overlooking their expansive land, Hutchins is a certified organic farm selling their produce from a small open stand piled high with colorful fruits and healthy green vegetables. At our visit, there were tons of tomatoes, peppers (habanero, jalapeno, serrano), melons, apples, okra, turnips, scallions and so much more. For tomato sauce, we bought a bag of tomatoes, one of which we ate before we even made it to the car. It was so fresh, full of flavor and firm! Hutchins Farms purveys some of the finest restaurants in Boston - I've seen them mentioned in menus, on chalkboards or overheard their name as waiters list them amongst the ingredients of their daily specials and yet I never bothered to check them out... that is until I finally decided to take a trip over to Concord with my fiancée. Prior to the twenty five minute drive from Somerville, we checked out their websites in hopes that it would feature some current information about what they're selling. It did. So off we went, down route two, in search of some fine, sweet corn, some juicy tomatoes and some basil. We didn't really have a plan in mind, just hanging on to hopes that maybe the place will be decent. We were wrong. It was great. While the place isn't huge and doesn't have as many things as other places like Russo's (Watertown) and Wilson Farms (Lexington), the place still has a decent amount of vegetables, eggs and fruits. Their focus is more on seasonality and quality. They had, hands down, the greatest bunch of basil that I've ever seen. It was fragrant and tasted better than any other I've had and made for an amazing homemade pesto. Their tomatoes were great and so were their greens. We picked up a whole bunch of goodies including my favorite which was melon - upon lifting it from the stand, it was still warm from being freshly picked from a sunny field. Awesome! All in all the place is great, affordable and best of all, 100% organic. No bullshit here folks, just top notch, fresh veggies, fruits and a few miscellaneous items like Iggy's bread and fresh flowers. The staff is friendly and they also have a newsletter that you can sign up for (worth it!). Oh and they accept credit cards as well and there's plenty of parking. When you first arrive to the farm, it is a very bucolic sort of space with fields and a vegetable stand. Be careful of the parking lot as it is small and very close to a ledge. You can roll right off! The driver next to me almost did! Vegetables are fresh and clean. The stand itself is pretty clean and sells whatever the farm grows along with iggy bread supplies. Hutchins Organic Growers will be closing their Farm Stand Nov. 1st for the 2008 season. Last chance to get the apples. My favorite is, of course, a variation on my general favorite, the Fuji. Brian's version is a little smaller, little tarter to counter Fuji's naturally sweet profile, has a juicier bite, with a more sublime creamier tooth (softer) but avoids that mealy consistency you find with cooking or baking apples. The 2008 Grand Cru of eating apples! It's a beautiful looking apple too. So you got till Saturday, buds. Concord is a short 15 minute drive from Cambridge, beats going to the far-reaches of 495, and I dare say, better. Oh, they have all kinds of gorgeous veggies too. I don't know if there is any place within hundreds of miles that turns out the quality of produce we get at Hutchins. This is what vegetables are supposed to taste like! The quality is outstanding. The care to sustainable organic farming practices comes through loud and clear. They also have the most incredible apples come September. Really the best apples I have ever eaten. Many are organic too which isn't easy to sell commercial organic in the northeast. Honorable mentions also goes to the sweeping gorgeous view out the back of the stand. You get what you pay for, but we don't mind paying for top quality produce that bursts with deliciousness. If you like to save money or keep a food budget then Hutchin's is not your place. I visit their booth when it's at Central Square Farmers Market, and sometimes their stand in Concord. For years, I biked by and thought "wow, such a pretty farm." That pretty farm makes the best veggies ever, particularly the lettuce! I don't know how it is that I like their lettuce so much, but its looks and taste are just a joy. I just bought leeks from them and they are really nicely grown, with lots of white and less to compost. The owner sends occasional useful e-mails to his list. Around this time of year, it's a great place to go to pick up potatoes and other storage crops in bulk for the upcoming winter. read more

I love this little farm. They only come to two markets, aside from selling at their own farm stand. How happy am I that one of those markets is mine- Central Sq on Mondays! They have the most tender teeny veggies, and the nicest girls to help you to pick them out I have yet to get to Concord to their farm stand, but I have friends who swear it is the only place to go for fresh veg. read more

Awesome organic farm. When I stopped in I bought romaine lettuce, scallions, 2 cherry tomato plants, a bundle of radishes and spinach. It was all amazing. I juiced the spinach along with some organic fruits (bought elsewhere) and it was delicious. Ran into a local who always goes to this farm and she suggested getting apples in the fall as they are really delicious. I will be back soon and often even though this is a little bit of a ride for me from where I live. I really really love how all the fruits and veggies here are USDA organic! read more

They are staffed by the rudest bunch of 16 yr olds. They have a sign over the raspberries, just picked today. There are fruit flies all over the raspberries. I bought some. More than half were moldy. I called and complained. I was told they have a moisture problem hence the fruit flies and raspberries are one of those fruits that go back quickly. Well, sorry they don't turn moldy in 6 hours and there were some fruit flies around but they were hovering over the raspberries. They were not "just picked". The best vegetables I've ever tasted and so much better to support local organic farms than huge mega super markets like Whole Paycheck! I live down the street and it's my favorite thing about Concord. Go in late May for their strawberries, buy a head of lettuce as big as your car and don't miss the fall apples. Great selection of in season & fresh food. My friends from nyc are so jealous and I feel so lucky to be in the same neighborhood as Hutchins Farm. Best farm stand in the area. During the season, I visit this place at least once a week to pick up the amazing fruits and veggies they have to offer. Definitely the best variety and the folks that work there are top-notch and very helpful/friendly. Prices are great too - but I don't really care how much it costs....buying local, organic, delicious, healthy and AMAZING food is priceless! read more
