Only partially wooded, most of the 15 stations are wide open. My fellow 80 year old shooter and I looked at each other and simultaneously said, "cart". Yes, we usually walk the sporting clay circuits, but Four Branches was going to be a long, hot walk. The cart should be considered. Normally I fire pairing a skeet and an improved cylinder choke. This is workable where most of the clays are within range. But on courses with very high and very long/distant throws, I will use a modified choke with an improved cylinder. So is the case with Four Branches. One could even use a modified and an improved modified. This is not a shooting situation for sub-caliber shotguns, like 28 gauge and 420 bore. 20 gauge is OK. The clubhouse is well air conditioned and they do sell some refreshments, but not any meals, per se. They also have shot, shells, shirts and hats for sale. Josh Blayton is the general manager and he is a super guy who shoots there and is the set-up guy for the stations. A really nice guy, so say "hey". Challenging course, wear a hat and dark glasses as you will be exposed to the sun a lot.

This is illogical in many ways and contradictory to their stated values of patriotism and pro-military. I flew to Matthews to visit family and wanted to shoot with them. Just to get through airport security now a driver's license isn't adequate, so I used my military ID, which is considered an Enhanced ID. It has a scan code for a national database and carries a higher reliability for citizens in good standing than does a driver's license, which sadly can even be obtained by illegal aliens and felons. The man at the range counter was sympathetic since he was a Marine, and he asked his manager, but the manager declined to accept the ID. I would like to have talked with the manager but he wouldn't talk to me about it.

And you never know what you would find in their inventory. 100 year old milsurp? Got it. Current tactical firearms? Yes. Everything in-between? Absolutely. With their constantly changing selection of new and used firearms, it is worth stopping just to see what they have in inventory. I have purchased firearms from them and have taken my time looking them over, talked with the staff about them and have always been satisfied with the deals they offered. Someone commented that they felt cheated by not getting much for a firearm they sold to Bull Moose, and I get it. The most you should expect is about 50% of the average sale price on recent completed auctions. This means if you take the gun that you paid $600 for to them, and they see that used it will sell for around $400 online, you can expect at MOST $200. Sure, $200 for a $600 gun can seem like you are getting hosed, but that is not just this shop. That is any shop that needs to warranty and assume the risk of being able to even sell the gun at all. In fact, most shops I have dealt with are closer to 25% to 33% of recent sales value, so you'd get even less than $200 most places. In the end, this is a great place to browse, talk, compare and feel no pressure as you look for the best fit for your needs. Small businesses like this are how you should shop all the time.

I was there to look at a Hornady re-loader for pistol ammo. My friend tipped me off that Robert had taken one in recently. Yep! There it was, with a number of plates of varying caliber and all the pieces were there to make it a complete ready-to-use machine. Richard prefers cash and I felt bad not having re-loaded my wallet to provide it, so Richard did accept my VISA card. My suggestion is to bring cash. This class was more expensive but worth every penny. The cheap class I took went like this, read a booklet, take a test, go to the firing range where I was handed a loaded pistol. Shoot and the class was done. V & M's class was very different. We went through a booklet. Everything was explained as if I had never worked with a firearm. They taught me how to pick it up, load the magazine, aim, shoot, firearm safety, names of the firearm parts, scenarios that could happen and what I'm legally responsible to know. We practiced with laser guns in class do when we're held a real firearm we would be comfortable. We went by over types of holsters, ways to conceal your weapon (bags, belts, shoulder harness) and where to purchase them. Proper ammo to use on the range vs protection. The instructors interacted with us. We could ask questions at any time. There were kind and very patient. If you're not confident with a firearm, this is the class for you. If you are confident, this is also the class for you. My sons are very good with firearms and they enjoyed the class as much as I did.
