The building itself is beautiful. I loved the restored industrial architecture, exposed brick, and especially the multi-story atrium that fills the hotel with natural light. If you're a photographer, don't miss the chance to explore the atrium and the historical displays throughout the hotel--they're full of character and tell the story of the building's past. Our atrium-facing double queen room was spacious, quiet, and incredibly comfortable. I'm pretty picky about hotel beds, and these were among the best I've slept in. After long days of sightseeing, it truly felt like coming home each evening. The staff deserves special recognition. Everyone we encountered was welcoming, friendly, and genuinely interested in making sure guests had a great stay. That kind of hospitality is something you remember long after you've checked out. Breakfast included both hot and continental options, along with fresh fruit and juice, making it a great way to start the day before exploring Wichita. It is an older property and there are signs of age in several exterior places. If you're picky and that matters to you, maybe this isn't your place. But, the rooms, lobby & pool area are great. Staff is great. My 5 stars are based on my enjoyment and experience. Like I said, I want to stay longer. Oh, and location. There is a grocery store right at the entrance, so you can easily enjoy your kitchen as much as you like. Several restaurants are nearby, too. No breakfast offered during our stay and spa closed due to COVID. But, that's for guest safety, so I respect that. I really needed a vacation, but had to come to Wichita for several reasons. Tallgrass kindly accommodates parents/grandparents at a special rate when they come to visit their kiddos. This morning, my wife and I enjoyed an above average hot breakfast provided by the hotel. This was a very pleasant upgrade and a surprise over past visits. The hotel's general manager is directly responsible for this improvement. He is to be congratulated on this decision and encouraged to continue it. The lady, Dawn, in charge of preparing/serving breakfast is very pleasant and outgoing. Every part of it was very, very clean, the toiletries smelled nice, nothing seemed too old or run-down, no bugs. The fitness center is nothing fancy--no weights or anything--but it has a working treadmill, elliptical, and recumbent bike in front of a huge flatscreen, so I was glad to have it. The free breakfast was just a bit scarier than the usual fare--pink glazed donuts were involved, but even worse was Fox News on the TV in the dining room--but I managed to snatch a yogurt (sugary but still) and a tomato juice each morning. If you're a foodie or health type, I would probably come more prepared. I loved the fact that the room had a little fridge/freezer. And, it was hotter than hell when I was in Wichita, and the AC rocked. It's kind of convenient and kind of not. It's right near Kellogg, which is good for getting all over town from, but it's also a bit strange to know when to turn off, so study the map in advance.
