There are plenty of signs throughout the airport indicating where you need to go to get the Tram (though, heads-up, depending on what gate you're coming from/going to, it could be a very long walk). Pass the enormous E D I N B U R G H letters outside the airport, and you'll see the ticket kiosks (pricing is currently £7.50 for a single, or £9.50 for an open return - the better value! I think you also save 50p if you pre-purchase online). Trams to the city from the airport run every seven to ten minutes, it takes about thirty to thirty-five minutes from the airport to either the Princes St or St Andrews Square stop (admittedly, I've never traveled beyond these two stops). There's spacious luggage racks to store your bags, plenty of seats for everyone, and it's noticeably clean as well. Make sure you have your ticket on you so they can check it (because they will). This is definitely the least stressful way to travel to/from the airport!

Needless to say, the less-than-lovely ladies were punted at the next station. Toodles! On an up note, I did make it in one piece from Point A to Point B. AMAZING overnight experience from Edinburgh to London…read more Comfortable beds. Clean. Organized. I like that you can order drinks and snacks via intercom. They brought our refreshments right away. The breakfasts were included and we could order it to be delivered earlier so we chose 6:30am. You make your selection on the menu card and hang it on your door knob. I had ordered my husband a salmon bagel and myself a vegetarian bacon sandwich. The veggie bacon was nasty. The bread was not edible. I wasted it unfortunately. Husband didn't get his bagel they sent yogurt and a croissant instead. The breakfast was the only disappointment in the trip, but I am giving five stars anyway because everything else exceeded our expectations. A very comfortable way to travel and sleep overnight. I prefer this over a plane any day!!

Or if they have a kiosk located in the station, it needs to be better posted. Once you find the place, expect to be extremely pleased. Courteous service from a clerk who probably deals with tourists like me (unlikely they can be even more clueless than me) all day but was patient in explaining the day ticket deal (£3 all day) and how the tickets work (just scratch off today's date and go) and providing me with a map of the bus routes. Five minutes later, I was at the bus stop. And five minutes later than that, I was taking a front row seat in the double-decker that brought me to the hotel. The day pass is probably the best method if you're planning on riding at least three buses in a day, otherwise you can pay on board. Exact change only. Or if you're in Edinburgh for more than a few days, consider one of the weekly/monthly/annual passes. Yes, they accept credit cards. Even the swipe and sign ones we Americans carry. And yes, they spoke English that was clear enough for me, a Yank, to understand. :)

One of my favourite things about Edinburgh is Lothian Buses. The bus services that they run across…read morethe city are unmatched, and it is one of the best bus providers that I have come across in the UK. They have three city centre travel shops, which provide information about all of the services that they offer, and I visited the one on Waverley Bridge. I went in as I needed to purchase a Ridacard - a card which you can pay for a period of time, whether it is a week, month, or year and get unlimited travel on their buses during this period. Staff were quick and efficient in providing me with the form I needed to fill, taking a photo for the card there and then, and producing the card itself. All in all, the process must have taken around 10 minutes. The shop is well stocked with timetables and all of the information you could possibly need for bus travel in and around Edinburgh. There was also a selection of information for tourists, and during the time I was there, a number of tourists came in asking for directions, which the staff were happy to provide. This travel shop is a great reflection of a superb bus company. Once the trams are up and running, they will be able to add another string to what is already a pretty large bow.

First Group East & Central Scotland have a bit of a bad reputation…read more They are not a local service (that is the Lothian Buses). Their prices are slightly more expensive, but they travel greater distances. The buses are dated and tired looking in the upholstery. They have several routes that also service the greater and city of Edinburgh and I for one will use them when I need to get somewhere quicker. As nearly all Lothian buses do have to load / unload passengers at every bus stop, it is a nice thing to speed past these stops and be at your destination that little bit earlier. Many a times they will overtake the Lothian Bus I just missed. Also I have to comment that their Customer Services does communicating very well. I lost my wallet and contacted their Customer Services via email. They were sympathetic to my plight, but were unable to sent out my wallet by post, thus I had to pick this up by myself. Problem here (as they are not a local service) is that their Depot is outside of Edinburgh; On the industrial estate in Livingstone in fact. Their opening hours for retrieving lost property are highly inconvenient: Mon - Fri between 10:00 - 16:00. As a bus user I do not have a car, therefore I had to take a train to Livingstone North and then take a taxi. I can imagine that people even further outside Edinburgh, who do rely on their service, have a bigger cost and journey to undertake to retrieve lost property. So relative to the perceived cost of the property lost and kept at their depot and the cost of retrieving it - they must have a shed load of umbrellas and headphones that no-one is claiming as it would be cheaper to buy a new one. So why still 3 stars? Because I do understand the location (possibly cheaper & infrastructure convenience) and their policy not to sent lost property by post. What I eventually like to see is an Edinburgh City lost property office.

Like any public transit the person next to you can always be hit or miss, on the way out there were no problems, other than the guy two rows back had a persistent smokers cough. From the bus station in the city centre one can travel to Dundee, Dunfermline and St. Andrews via Stagecoach. Prices on these services are generally a lot cheaper than going via train. To Glenrothes the train costs about ten pounds from Edinburgh. However, via Stagecoach you can get a cheap day return for only five pounds and fifty pence. A bargain! There are some downsides to Stagecoach though. Services are sometimes late due to delays at the Forth Road Bridge. Also, some services are very busy and one can be sitting next to someone who is larger than their seat or smells slightly of Body Odour!! Not very nice at all! If you want value for money, Stagecoach is pretty good!

Window is open so it all flows right in. The good part is the location is nice. Lots of amenities around. However, I cannot recommend this hotel and we will be checking out early to find another place.
