Such a sweet tour! Our guide was so knowledgeable, and made the stories come alive! Sitting on the porch and looking over the lake was one of my favorite moments. It was so peaceful and stunning! Highly recommend!

    Pretty view of the lake.

My wife and I took a long stroll from the Glimmerglass State Park beach area to Hyde Hall for a lovely view of the lake. It's a slight walk uphill to see the neoclassical country mansion. Designed by Philip Hooker, a 19th century architect, the stone building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. If you walk through the main gate and continue to pass through the lane of trees, it will lead you back to the beach area. We came here in the early evening (tours had closed by 5pm) and it was very peaceful. The grounds are exquisite and well-worth a visit even if you don't have time to go inside. On the lower level near the lakeside beach, the estate includes a lovely wooden covered bridge. According to the display sign, it's the oldest wooden covered bridge in the United States that is still standing. If you walk along the paved road from the beach area toward the main exit where the creek overpass is located, you'll see it a short distance from the road (in the direction away from Lake Otsego). The bridge makes a delightful spot for a picture and pleasant walk from the beach!

We toured Hyde Hall today and David was an exceptional tour guide. The home was lovely and we appreciate how much is being done to restore it to its original grandeur! This truly is a "must see!"

I've been wanting to visit Hyde Hall for about a year now and I finally found time to spend a few hours here before I move out of the area. The area surrounding the home is very scenic and it's quite easy to find the building (near Glimmerglass State Park, at the north end of Lake Otsego). The admission fee is only $10 and it's definitely worth it. The building is quite beautiful and has an amazing view of the lake from its grounds (it's quite easy to see why it was built in that location). The staff were also all very kind and I thoroughly enjoyed my tour (which lasts an hour and is done every hour on the hour). The home is in various stages of restoration and you're able to see fully restored rooms as well as several rooms that are partially restored or not restored in any way. The building was finished in 1834, but had been lived in for several generations and various rooms were used in different ways. This makes for a interesting tour and there is quite a bit of history in this building. If you're a fan of old mansion homes and history, I would definitely suggest stopping by while you're in the area (and bring your camera!). Anticipate spending 1-2 hours here.

I was very fortunate to be the only guest on the tour and enjoyed learning about the estate through conversation.

There was a reading of the Declaration of Independence on the village green, complete with 13 lemonade toasts and accompanying "Huzzah!!"s. I learned about broom making, printing, natural remedies and pill making, among many other things. Just roaming through the historic village and farm was fascinating!! All the animals were so relaxed and super well cared for. The thing that totally blew me away though, was the Empire State Carousel! All the animals on it are hand carved, and are all animals found in NY. The whole thing was simply gorgeous! There was a young woman that went around before the carousel started and told you the name of "your" animal, it's history and special facts about it. Loved the whole day!! ** right after my visit, I bought a membership because I plan on going back often!

We got here an hour before closing which probably isn't enough time but my son is 3 so it was perfect for him. The carousel which I thought was super cute my son ran for dear life from. It's a carousel! lol. Seriously the way he ran you'd think we were trying to lure him to the carousel of death. So sadly no ride on that but everything else was really cool to check out. Random chickens around my son was happy seeing it all. Gift shop was closed as we left but we came back the next day to check that out :) I definitely plan on coming back here as my boy gets older where he can actually pay attention to things.

They transported our guests from a hotel in Cooperstown and were even kind enough to arrange additional pickup and drop-off service for guests staying at a nearby Airbnb, which we really appreciated. We also wanted to be part of the fun, so we had the trolley pick us up at the venue the night before and bring us to and from our rehearsal dinner. It ended up being such a fun and memorable part of the weekend. Our guests absolutely loved the trolley ride -- on the way back to the hotel, everyone was singing along to music after the driver let them connect to the speaker system. It really added to the celebration and made the night even more memorable for everyone. Matt was very accommodating and made sure we were taken care of once everything was finalized. On the wedding weekend itself, transportation ran smoothly and allowed our guests to fully enjoy the evening without worrying about driving. We're very thankful our guests were able to celebrate safely and have such a fun experience together. Danielle & Taylor

They came a very long way to service our party, and I'm so tremendously grateful. Our driver, Rob, was a mensch. He arrived early to get a lay of the land and figure out how he planned to navigate the roads in and out of our (very rural) venue. He picked up everyone on time and nobody showed up to our ceremony late! Then he hung out till we were ready to send people home, and was extremely kind to wait until we were sure we had collected all of our guests and left no one behind! It was such a fun option to bring our guests to and from the venue, and we are so beyond pleased that we went with Leatherstocking Trolly Company!
