This review is on our trip in July 2023…read more Our first trip to New York to dig for Herkimer Diamonds was back in 2010. We dug at the Ace of Diamonds mine. Great time & loads of herks to be had. Smashed rocks, sifted through dirt amongst the piles, and walked around plucking them off the ground. We returned multiple times until suddenly the landscape changed and the rock pile was not the same. All there was were rocks from the cliff that the claims people had sheered off to hopefully find pockets in the walls. We find out in our 2021 trip that the Ace of Diamonds is in a lawsuit and it cannot dig up new material/loads of rock and earth from deep in the mine areas to dump for all of the daily customers to prospect. The place is a waste of time and money now. Fast forward to today July 2023 and we see they post that they are able to now dig new material and bring it to the piles. We have high hopes that we will get to enjoy this place once again and head out from mid Ohio to see. Upon arrival the pile does not lie...it tells us that nothing has changed. We buy our wrist bands and ask if they have done as they suggested on their website and added new material. They hedge in their answer and claim that they just cant get any of the machines working...I would suggest that you do not post a promise of new material until you are actually able to do this. Another absolutely sad trip to Ace of Diamonds Mine. I am not sure why anyone would donate to the gofundme. Lesson learned that they are just looking to have people give them money.

Earlier in the year gives you a longer opportunity to mine! $28 per person to enter. There is equipment to rent or buy, I suggest renting compared to the prices of buying, or bring your own! Compared to another mines, this one is smaller with three different areas, we chose the black diamond mine. Being newly excavated, we had a chance at unearthing more diamonds in this location versus cracking open the stones. Unfortunately, we stopped in during a mining competition so one mine was pretty much off-limits but we were still able to find a lot of cool diamonds and rocks

Knowledgeable and welcoming staff, cabin was clean, bathrooms were clean, camp showers were hot…read more Cabins have windows and an overhead fan, but if you are going during the hot season, bring an extra to help move air through. We went at a rough time with a brutal heat index but came back with a decent collection of stones. My son wandered and found a few stones loose in the dirt of the mine. Definitely suggest bringing a pop up canopy for shade while mining. The sluicing option (buy a bag, pour in sieve, rinse) produced some great stones and fossils that we can't wait to tumble and polish. Most of the lot is gravel, which makes for difficult terrain for wheelchair users. The beds in the cabin are rough sleeping, especially after a day spent mining. If you can, pack extra padding for a better sleep. Overall, a good experience. We'll be back when the temps aren't so cruel and see what we can get when we aren't risking heat exhaustion to pound rocks.

Just a note, the lodge does not have air conditioning and while we were cozy there was a late time during one day that the humidity and temperature level were a little high and uncomfortable. While they do have air purifying fans in the bedrooms and the temperature drops to a comfortable level at night, if you need air conditioning to be comfortable you might want to consider that.

Accommodations: The aesthetics look nice from the outside but the rooms are not that nice and the walls are extremely thin so we heard every single word and noise from every room in the lodge. We also had to go down two flights of stairs into a he basement/dog training room to our bathroom, which didn't have hot water and smelled like pet urine. The host, Monique, is incredibly rude. She was entertaining personal friends in the common area of the lodge for both of the nights we were there. Her group took over the whole space, even though Monique's house is 50 yards away, and was drinking and partying well into the morning hours. It made us extremely uncomfortable to even try to go to the bathroom. Neither one of us, nor the other guests that weekend, got much sleep since they were so loud and the walls/doors are so incredibly thin. Monique is rude on every level. She criticized us for our dog's tail being cropped (was done long before we got her so it was far outside of our control) and was just condescending and disrespectful in general for the whole time we were there. The icing on the cake is that we forgot a new pair of pretty expensive glasses there. My wife called/texted Monique and she acknowledged that her husband had found them under the bed of the room we stayed in. She said she would send them to us (my wife even offered to pay for the shipping) but they never came. After a few weeks we both tried calling and sent several texts (one just pleading for a response) but she never once replied. Needless to say, we paid almost $500 for two nights there and are extremely disappointed with the service and how loud and uncomfortable the stay was. I grew up one town over from where Lodge Solange and my sincerest advice to anyone considering this place is to just keep looking. There are many much better and nicer / places and people in the Mohawk Valley.

Centrally located to Cooperstown and Erie Canal. The B&B was better than I had imagined it to be. The historical structure holds an interesting past and has been newly renovated inside and out. VERY clean inside and out. The cook to order breakfasts were second to none. Loved being able to visit with Brick!! Jason went above and beyond with arranging a pastor to perform our renewal and arrange for a wonderful dinner at Beardsley Castle (a must see). Our room was comfortable, slept better here than at home! It was also a convenient location; lots to discover nearby.

We stayed in the suite which had its own private bathroom, a very comfortable queen-size bed, and chairs to watch TV; WiFi was also conveniently available. The next morning Melissa had prepared a delicious breakfast for us with fresh fruit cups, homemade scones, English muffins, jam, a homemade frittata, orange juice, tea and coffee! We were very pleased with our stay! Melissa is a wonderful hostess and proprietor of a Bed and Breakfast that we highly recommend !

Would definitely stay again as the price was more than fair. We were just there as a layover between Cooperstown and Saratoga. The town of Fort Plain seemed past it's prime so wouldn't go there as a destination, but A White Rose came up roses as a very relaxing place to stay between two points.
