Being a car aficionado as well as having my 2020 Elantra assembled here, when I made plans to visit the area I looked into making reservations for a tour via Hyundai's website. Unfortunately, they were booked months in advance so I decided to contact HMMA a week prior to my visit to see if they had a waiting list in case anyone bailed. When I called the receptionist answered and didn't even ask if I wanted to be placed on hold as I was talking (heard music). When the receptionist came back on the line I briefly explained to her the situation and she quickly dismissed my inquiry stating what was on their website (regarding the tours) is the current status. Since the receptionist was very rude and dismissive, I decided to dive a little further in my research as I had come across a PR's contact info on their website and so happy that I did as I was promptly replied to by the head of PR! As they currently conduct tours M-W-F at 9:30am and 2:30pm, I inquired about the afternoon tour since we were staying in Mobile and it is a little over a 3 hour drive and unfortunately, they could only fit us into the morning time slot, but we made it work leaving Mobile at 6:15am. The plant was easy to find upon the email instructions that one of the PR employees sent to me. There are specific details stating to arrive between 15-30 min prior to be allowed onto the premises by the security guard and to find parking in the visitors lot. No cameras nor photos are allowed during the plant tour; however, you can take some in the lobby while you wait for the tour guide. Upon entering, we were ping ponged between the security guard seated in front of the tour department as well as the receptionist as they were both not very friendly and the guard was talking on what appeared to be a company phone/walkie talky. Once he allowed us through, we checked in with the employee at the front desk as he was chatting with another employee whom I thought was our tour guide and he mumbled something about he was conducting the tour. He told us we could hang out and walk around the area until he called us. There was some cool wall displays with the plant information and history, along with a couple of model sized layouts of the plant and some Hyundai and Genesis vehicles on the tour lobby floor, as well as a gift shop on site. I heard the tour guide announce softly to the other party that he was ready to conduct the tour and walked over to their little theater so we could watch a brief film about the history of the plant as well as some safety rules and regulations. After the film we were instructed to head back out and obtain some goggles and some earphones since there would be loud noises on the plant floor. There were about three golf sized carts (some shorter than others) and there were about 7 or 8 of us in total which again, I was so glad I contacted someone other than the receptionist because the website stated it was booked so there were no shows obviously. Upon getting our equipment and on the golf cart, the tour guide was very informative and did stop at certain parts of the plant in various buildings and areas so we could take in what was going on (some shorter than others). At times I felt that the tour guide had memorized a script, bored, or simply was so used to memorizing what he had to see because he repeated himself a couple of times and then quickly apologized (I thought perhaps in case we missed anything). Once we the tour concluded and we got back into the tour lobby, he asked us if we had any questions and he would try best to answer them, and we were on our merry way! We stopped by the gift shop on our way out to pick up an overpriced souvenir (I wasn't about to pay 30.00 for a t-shirt lol) so I chose a coffee cup for 11 bucks which was more reasonable to me lol. Overall, I recommend this tour and would have given it a five star rating had it not been for the lack of a waiting list and a more enthusiastic tour guide. It would be awesome if they had a waiting list and an RSVP or callbacks to ensure their reservations to allow more people to enjoy being able to make a reservation. read more
