Track, time, rail line etc. I found the station very clean and very friendly with a police presence that was willing to help if you had questions. The tourist information booth was in plain sight and provided lots of pamphlets, maps and recommendations for just about anything you need. I was amazed at how many trains were going to so many places around Europe. Again my first experience in a train station so I was a little bit in aww. lol With a nice selection of food court and retail shops you could use to kill some time if you were early for your connection. And a short walk to many traditional Swiss restaurants right on the Reuss river where it meets Lake Luzern. But be warned. Trains arrive and depart on time! So don't get distracted with the shops. Lol All in all a very quick but nice experience. I would definitely be ok with traveling by train again.

We took Grindelwald/Interlaken Express from here. Then train to Geneva and Bern. There are plenty of options to shop and a huge variety of restaurants available in the lower level. The bus and cruise terminal are all within walking distance. Very clearly marked signs available and easy to navigate.

I booked both hotels on line and even though I inputted Basel, once we were ready to change hotels I found out that our hotel was actually in Lorrach which was in Germany. Hey! What? Fortunately the reviews comforted me since previous cruise goers also stayed in that town and it wasn't too far away and very easy to get to. This station was directly across the street from our hotel. Awesome! The big plus was our hotel gave us transportation vouchers we could use to get back to Basel the next morning. The best and worst of it? The station had an elevator from the station platform to the street level. Always travel light...we never learn. If it had been any other day but Sunday, I would have been an ecstatic camper. Why? Take a walk into the town... keep walking and you see so many charming photo ops. There are LOTS of really nice quality clothing stores and even better SHOE stores with really nice and comfy styles and colors. Only hitch? ALL the stores are closed on Sunday. DANG! The huge and packer ice cream, dessert cafe was open. Who knew people here loved ice cream in all shapes and sizes at 4:30 in the afternoon? The one woman who spoke English told us there was a good Greek Restaurant which would be open at 5 pm. She pointed down the street to the awning. Yes, we had a nice dinner and an even yummier baklava then returned to the hotel in darkness. Thank goodness for this tiny German train station which afforded us safe and easy transportation plus a wonderful window shopping experience

The entire time I passed by during my stay, things seemed relatively calm. Of course delays couldn't be helped (my friend was affected), but solutions were not too far out of reach. This train station has multiple levels, a pharmacy, and lots of food options (Starbucks included). If you forgot to get your authentic German pretzel from a backeri, this can be your chance to grab one before leaving!

I had been clrver enough to book a room at the adjacent hotel Intercity from which you simply step out at platform 1 straight from the breakfast room. The platform mostly used for some reason. I love to ride trains but I'm definitely not impressed by Deutsche Bahn for many reasons, main one is obviously that the trains are most always delayed (only 1 of the 6 train rides I took during a week was on time). That English information on displays and speakers is not a basic and common thing plus they keep changing the train sets so despite the fact that you should board in front of the train for your booked seat you end up running in vain on a busy platform to reach your seat at the very end of the train are other reasons for my non-fondness of the German railway. Still, Freiburg train station is a pretty decent one as far as train stations go, with cafes and restaurants and a few shops too.

Yelp Review 2026 #114:…read more When you stay in Interlaken, you have two options: stay close to Interlaken Ost or stay close to Interlaken West. Both have pros and cons depending on what you value. If you want a quiet area and plan to go to Harder Kulm, Grindelwald, Jungfrau, and Lauterbrunnen - stay close to Interlaken Ost. If you like shopping, lots of restaurant options, nightlife and plan to take a cruise to Lake Thun a stay close to Interlaken West. If you're taking a train to Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald - be sure to pay attention to the labels on the floor. Everyone good on. The same train number but you don't want to hop on the wrong carriage. The train splits in Zweilütschinen. If you have 1st class ticket, you might want to slum it out in 2nd class on the right carriage or keep walking til you see a 1st class carriage and risk getting left behind! It's just one train ride, you'll live! On the way back to Interlaken Ost, there will be 1st vs 2nd class carriages. If you only paid for 2nd class tickets, do not hop on the 1st class carriage. Yes, there's a lot of people in 2nd class and you'll end up standing because there's no seat available but that doesn't give you the right to go to 1st class. There's always somebody checking your ticket. It made for good entertainment for me guessing who didn't have 1st class tickets but were in the 1st class carriage - I got 3/3 correct! It's always the ones who watch videos on speaker. This is where 1st class tickets become more obviously better. There's always seats in 1st class. It's quieter. There's no store, cafe, restaurant at the station per se. However, you'll find plenty around the station.
