I decided I was going to walk around the village to see if there were an airBnb . I saw that amazing place Le Patio des Senteurs, and called immediately. The owner, Sylviane answered and told me that they were closed but they will open the place for me! Sylviane and Pierrot her husband were in another city, they came back to meet me, help me with my luggage and spoiled me with delicious local cookies! The house is just like a picture from the World of Interiors When Sylviane and Pierrot came back in the evening, they invited to have dinner with them. The next morning the breakfast was delightful and the hosts incredibly helpful and kind. I am so glad I had no power! My stay at Patio des Senteurs was the highlight of my extraordinary trip! Spent our last night in France at this awesome B&B. What an absolute gem. The owners (also the…read moredecorators) were beyond hospitable, allowing us to check in around 10am on the day of arrival, and then treating us to coffee, tea, and pastries in the backyard garden. They even allowed our relatives, who weren't even staying here, to store their luggage in the lobby for a few hours while we walked around. They also shared with us some wine, olives, and salami later in the day before dinner -- they were just so generous and kind. The hotel itself is superb -- spacious rooms(!), comfortable beds, modern and sparkling clean (it's all decorated in retro furniture and art, looks like one or both of the owners are big into collecting). The breakfast offerings are excellent (pastries, cheeses, meats, yogurt, fruit, fresh squeezed juice, etc etc). I cannot recommend this hotel enough if you are going to spend time in Carcassonne, especially if you are coming or going via the train station (it's a 7-8 minute walk from the station). It's about a 10 minute walk from the Bastide neighborhood and 25 minutes to the Medieval City (and an easy, scenic walk at that).

Breakfast was not included in our rate and expensive so we skipped and ate elsewhere. There is a restaurant on the premises for breakfast/dinner and you can purchase bottles of wine as well from the bar to take back to your room. I enjoyed my stay here but it was a little more than I wanted to spend ($160 in late October) and if I had to do it again I would pay more and stay at one of the two hotels within the city walls.

The room was very modern and clean. It had all the amenities of a big city hotel. Staying inside the city walls was a magical experience, starting from the minute our complementary shuttle driver picked us up at the car park outside the walls. He then maneuvered through the medieval streets that were built for pedestrians, horses and carriages and now are mobbed by tourists. We managed to get to our room without hitting any tourist or any wall. Anyways, we ended up staying here two nights and we would have stayed longer if we hadn't had other traveling plans in place.
