Brenda Muir is quite a compact shop - but you'll still find a great selection of outfits. Like many of the other clothing shops along Hyndland Road, it is aimed at women of 30/40+, but that doesn't stop me from heading in and having a browse through some really chic tailored clothing. As well as the clothing, at Brenda Muir you'll also find a dazzling selection of costume jewellery and pashmina scarves of almost every colour. This is a great shop to visit if you're looking for some sophisticated workwear.

The clothes range also covers expectant mums, glad no doubt, to be able to choose something other than the usual dungarees and huge t-shirts. Recent additions to the shop include very pretty Mother and child accessories and crockery, including a Beatrix Potter range. While not cheap (some of the clothes are crazy dear, craaazy dear) you can rely on being the best dressed Mum or child around, if that is your priority. Otherwise, it's hard to beat Asda's George these days.

Tucked away down on the quite splendidly west endy Skirving Street on the South Side, this place is a quite funky wee shop with cutsey clothing, accessories and other bits and bobs for gals and babies.....there is a gentle nod to some guys stuff but really, with a name like Butterfly Kisses they aint exactly lookng to corner the man market. Anyway, this is a cute wee place with some really funky gear. Ok its a tad pricey but to be honest the gear looks to be of a high quality and its in nowhere near the same ridiculous price bracket as the west end. With a freindly and helpful owener i do hope this place is around to celebrate its second birthday come next year.....me likes.

Once inside Jasmine, you might think that everything looks a bit jumbled. Don't let this put you off, though, as it's just because there are so many clothes on offer that they all overlap a little! You'll find clothing ranging from cosy knitwear to party dresses, so it is worth having a bit of a rummage. Also in Jasmine you'll find a great costume jewellery range. I saw some really unusual pieces that would make great gifts (either for other people or yourself....). You'll also find a wide range of hats, scarves, gloves, belts and bags at Jasmine. This is an upmarket shopping centre which has more expensive high street shops like Reiss, Ted Baker, Vivienne Westwood and Cos (which I'm still yet to check out!). The centre is certainly decorated to match the crowd it's looking to attract - glitzy, glam and always clean and tidy. I like the size of the centre as well - it's very dinky but still has lots of shops and is easy to navigate. There's also a host of restaurants, bars and cafés but I'll be honest - I've not visited many of them. I ate at Barca probably 4 years ago and also one of the places on the bottom floor but I think that's changed hands. One down side is that if you are dining at a restaurant on the lower level, parents will tend to let their kids run riot in the centre circle which can be a bit of a mood-killer. Princes Square doesn't have a car park due to its location but it is really close to train and subway. If you do really fancy driving, probably St Enoch or Mitchell Street are the closest car parks.

I'd say that the clothes sold in Solo would appeal more to ladies age 40+ - but there are plenty of exceptions to this rule, so it's definitely worth having a look anyway. The staff are really friendly and service is obviously a huge priority in this shop. Although it can be a little pricey in Solo - they do have significant reductions in the sales. So keep an eye out for the big red stickers if the shop is normally a little out of your budget!

The staff were lovely, the daughter translated to her mother what I was looking for and helped me explain how I wanted it to fit (you pick fabrics and the pattern that goes with them from a picture or draped on a mannequin), they took my measurements and a £20 deposit and it was ready in just a few days. When I collected it and tried it on the fit was terrible and it was done with big slits in the side (worn with trousers) but I wanted the option to wear ot as a dress as well so they took it back and fixed it very quickly. They were happy to make alterations to make it more western to fit my style better and were always friendly and smiling. The price was also pretty good for the quality too! I've seen a lot of similar places charge a lot more for this kind of thing!

I would recommended going somewhere more trustworthy and professional, otherwise you may end up regretting not spending that little bit more on your wedding outfit. 1 Star! :(

I completely agree with Eleanor's statement that the dresses are old fashioned. However, there are also some rather fancy numbers which would be good for more formal do's. Though, like Eleanor I'm pretty small at 5ft 3", hence didn't even attempt to try on their long, flowing cocktail dresses. This is also the reason why I can't comment greatly on customer service. But, when I popped in for a nosey the staff seemed pleasant enough and after a quick greeting and enquiry as to what I had in mind, they happily left me along to have a browse. Potentially this was only because I clearly had no idea or occasion in mind, who knows? Anyway, this is a pleasant enough shop though up my street; I'm sure it's the kind of place that your mum or older aunt might enjoy a look in.

After trying on what felt like 100 dresses, I left disheartened as none of them suited me. I actually thought a few looked quite good but the busybody shop assistant assured me that none of them did after humming and hawing and a series of, "yes, that one's not for you..." I can't say it was a very positive shopping experience and definitely not good for my self-confidence. To be fair, I'm only 5ft so very small and I guess I didn't really do any of the dresses justice. I kind of just looked like a little girl who was trying on my mums clothes. I think the dresses here are generally designed for womanly hourglass figures so unless you're Marilyn Monroe, forget it. The dresses are very glamorous to look at but I found some of them were a bit old fashioned and be warned, if you're looking for an ego boost you definitely won't get it here!
