Upon entry the types of smells my nose picked up definitely had my taste buds excited so I had to give it a shot. Now there are a few different types of waffles you can try and to add to the mixture you have a variety of toppings, sauces and ice cream to go with. I was in heaven. Being a complete craze for white chocolate I had to go with that for a sauce and paired it with coconut chocolate ice cream. What a match that was, every spoonful was amazing. I feel like if I lived in the UK I would be here very night, probably have to start my own waffles anonymous club if ya know what I mean.

Once you've decided your waffle type or crepe you can choose one ice scoop of ice cream, one topping and one sauce. They have a great variety of sauces and toppings. The sauces in particular are quite varied including peanut butter and salted caramel. Extra toppings and sauces cost more but generally you will spend about the five pounds mark.

But no, while patrons of Heavenly Desserts may be dressed to the nines, this dessert bar necessitates elastic trousers more than a "go out shirt". Heavenly Desserts was one of the originators of the type of dessert bar that has popped up all over Birmingham in recent years. Starting out in a smaller shop front, they now take up a very large location in Sparkbrook that can seat many. Despite this, the place is packed with queues on the weekend. The wait is managed very professionally by an army of staff members. Once you make it to your seat, a literal bible of sweet goodies awaits. The shop is most known for their outrageous waffles and cookie dough, but it's entirely possible to pop in for some gelato and a coffee. This is exactly what I did while visiting with friends recently, as the cookie dough was tempting but I wanted something smaller. The gelato can be purchased on its own, but it's also a key ingredient in their other dessert dishes. I was hoping for the best based on reviews, but my cookies and creme/chocolate combo was average at best. Given the amount of competition in Brum, the gelato was not up to par with a generic flavour present. The Americano I ordered as my drink was substantial in size, but lacked finesse in its pull, with a bitter, acidic quality. The overall service here is spot on, with our waiter checking on us throughout our visit. Paying was a hassle though, as we had to walk to the back end of the shop and pay at a card kiosk. Speaking of, the prices here are at the upper limit of what you can realistically charge, especially since it's not in city centre. Heavenly Desserts is a nice dessert shop for the most part, but if you are looking for high quality ingredients or a low-mid price point, south Brum has many more options for you.

The waiter handed us sticky food stained menus and advised us too order at the bar, and left leaving the table with dirty plates and glasses. I made a selection and went up to the bar too order, I waited 10 minutes for a barman to take my order as there was nobody behind the bar. I placed my order and asked for my table to be cleared, and was told to speak with a waiter. After finally clearing the table myself I received my order which was incorrect. It was at this point I advised that I wanted to complain and was told to contact customer services and I decided to leave the restaurant. I will not be going again.

It's not particularly child orientated and they seemed to view the kids as an inconvenience. However, we went for pre-cinema cocktails (without kids, of course) and the service was much better at the bar! The barmaid advised me on the cocktails and prevented a possible disappointment, which I was grateful for! I ended up with a gorgeous cocktail called a Strawberry Shortcake, with strawberries, Amaretto (my all time favourite!) and lots of lovely vanilla ice cream. Lovely! So all in all, I probably wouldn't eat here again but for a special cocktail, it is just fine :)

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and went that little bit extra in their customer service. The decor was really interesting there was a sort of fusion between modern restaurant and old fashioned cafe. Me and a friend shared the veggie breakfast, as we were told the breakfast's are the biggest plates they do....yes breakfast at 8pm, when is not a good time to have a good ol fry up? It was alot of food for one person, so i'm glad we shared, they also kindly put all of the items with egg in it on a separate plate so as to not contaminate the rest of it, as i dont eat egg. The vegan ginger and dark chocolate tart was lovely but very rich! I'm glad I ordered a scoop of ice cream to go with it. We visits Desco on a sunny Sunday lunch and needed food. The service was pretty poor at the bar, not sure if it was a training issue but it took a good 15 mins to get served and seated with drinks. Surprisingly our food arrived in 5 mins as it took so long to place the order. It sounded like people were waiting on coffees too so perhaps a few more staff needed for a Sunday lunch? The ciabatta I had was crispy so worked perfectly against the Cajun mayo and avocado, slice of Monteray cheese and buttermilk fried chicken (no one tell the carb police) and a side of sweet potato fries ( charged extra but still cheaper than ordering as a separate side) and coleslaw. I had that with a refreshing st clement - orange juice, fever tree bitter lemon and bitters. I enjoyed the vibe and would return but let's hope the service, toilet paper availability and tidiness of tables improves by then!

Fully decked out in bunting in readiness for the Jubilee celebrations it had a sort of Cath Kidson-y vibe which I expect was unintentional and sort of all the better for it. The ice creams are to die for and the cakes looked pretty good too.

We were also not given the full menu, only the festive menu, despite asking why there were only three meal options. All in all, our meal cost £98, including £7.40 for 2 cans of Coke. And, looking around, that did indeed seem to be the general modus operandi. I don't usually go to carveries for this very reason but a little peer pressure meant that this was what today's menu was going to look like. We were close to this place after being too late for the China Garden lunch buffet so we checked in and got a table close to the action after about five minutes. It would seem that before 4pm is a good time to get seated; after the lunch rush and before the dinner rush. Larger parties and more smaller parties started to arrive after we were seated. The plates are a tenner on a Sunday and for that you get a decent portion of meat plus unlimited veg and stuff to lump on afterwards. The food tastes good enough; the pork and gammon I had was a little too chewy but, well, meh. I didn't expect fine dining. My other half was getting some potatoes that had been sitting in oil (not sure if they should be, they just were) and as she was loading up, a member of the kitchen staff very kindly came and replenished the potato stock for her. Even better was the way they did it; instead of swapping out the dishes, they instead poured the hot potatoes (and hot oil) sloshing into the original dish, with the resulting oil splashes ending up all over my other half's top and jeans. Specks of oil are now permanently embedded in her clothing as a reminder to us of how mediocre this place is. We had a quiet word with our table server (who couldn't be a nicer human if she tried - she was lovely) and the manager came over to hear our story. What I was expecting was for her to do a quick calculation of how much it would be to replace the clothes (about forty quid) versus what we were paying (about thirty quid) and write the whole meal off for us. But instead she just offered us free deserts, which we had ordered anyway, so the tenner that the puds cost us were removed from the bill. And here's the grind; the deserts we ordered were the apple & rhubarb crumble (water, sugar, apple, rhubarb - microwave til lava, spread thinly across the base of a dish, and sprinkle with clumps of flour and sugar, then do nothing to it, and serve) and a delicious-sounding-but-mediocre-tasting ice cream desert (a mass of synthesised strawberry syrup at the bottom of the glass, fill to the top with cheap whippy ice cream, omit the layering of the ingredients that the menu promises, then carefully decorate with four bits of chocolate, and also omit the strawberry on the top). So we'd have complained and got these sent back anyway, as they were bland and unsatisfying to say the least. By this time we just wanted to be gone. We prompted our server for the bill, paid it in cash there and then, and made our way out, determined to not see the inside of that place ever again.
