Staff aren't overly joyful, service was standard, a little slow but i suppose that shows that the crepes are made to order, so I would rather wait for something fresh. My friend tried the savoury chicken crepe which he said was a little tasteless and i would have liked it a little more crisp, there was also a pathetic rotten looking iceberg lettuce on the side which looked rather unpleasant and i didn't eat. But the contents of the crepe was nice. The shop is very very big, maybe even too big. There is a small kids play area which is good to stop small children running around the shop for fun! But it can be full of kids and mums which is annoying if you want some peace and quiet. It was fairly clean, but not to my standard of clean. We were given a knife, fork and spoon held together with damp napkins, which looked cheap and nasty. I had also ordered a beetroot smoothie and was repeatedly asked if i wanted it made with frozen yogurt or soft serve. I wasn't sure what soft serve was so i asked the waiter to explain himself and he just kept saying its soft serve. i had no idea what it was. Then my friend pointed out its like a Mr Whippy van style ice -cream. Why couldn't he just say that? So i chose frozen yogurt. The smoothie was nice but i would prefer to have it with our any frozen yogurt or soft serve. There is a lot of choice with savoury options, a small selection of cakes, lots of different toppings for the pancakes, crepes and waffles. Price wise i think its very expensive. We had 1 Crepe, a small black coffee and smoothie for £14.00. Even for Harborne that is slightly too high, especially when this is aimed more at parents with children. Now, this might surprise you - but I don't have the biggest sweet tooth in the world. Don't get me wrong, I like a treat every now and then, but I don't get the sweats if I haven't eaten chocolate in a few hours or crave sugar every hour to keep me buzzing... However, I do have a dark secret and that is my ice cream addiction. I can't put a finger on when it started, but just the sight of ice cream makes me turn into a hyper child pulling on my dad's sleeve to persuade him to buy me a Feast or a Mr Whippy. As soon as I saw the first photos of Paradice being added to Yelp, that was it - I HAD to go. A trip to Harborne for work was planned and I knew a trip to the Gelateria had to be a part of the day. After doing some work in Boston Tea Party in the morning, an ice cream was just what the Doctor ordered after my massive lunch as an afternoon pick-me-up. The venue is just up from the Junction and has entrances on both sides (both Vivian and High Street) and is bright, airy and large. One side has a small children's soft play area (to keep the kids busy) and the other has a selection of booths and chairs for visiting groups. After a long look at the selection (which is rather generous to say the least), I opted to go for the (now) legendary "Hello Kitty" mixed with cola millions flavour in a medium tub (£3.40). The gelato is lovely. Light, fluffy and packed full of flavour - it dances on the palate (even when it's long gone). I didn't feel aggrieved at the price for two scoops at all (and if I had, had more of an appetite might have opted for 3). The staff were friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in. I was offered tasters of different flavours to try before I chose and you could sense that they love their jobs (which is important, especially in the service industry). The best I've found in Birmingham, but not 'the best' gelato, if that makes sense (maybe I have unreasonably high gelato standards-- I just find it lacks a creaminess that gelaterias in Italy deliver). Really interesting flavours (today I had a scoop of Ferrero Rocher), always something new to try, and their coffee is quite good. The place is always packed with families during the day, with a really nice little play area for children. Overall, definitely a great place to stop in and cool off on a warm summer day. read more

When Paradice opened in a disused market building, in winter, I was quite surprised. But I've been several times to date- it's a spacious, clean, well stocked ice cream parlour, with a small outdoor seating area and a little 'soft play' corner as many clients are on the young side. But this isn't just kiddie ice cream- lovely Italian gelato in a variety of great flavours (I loved the gingerbread one with the tiny gingerbread men), you can also get semifreddo cakes- like patisserie cakes but with fancier grown up ice cream. Add to this the selection of milkshakes- any ice cream flavour or any of the chocolate bars/biscuits they have on display. But what if you aren't a big ice cream fan? Well, waffles and pancakes are on offer. You can even make a meal of it with savoury crepes I haven't tried these tough so can only vouch for the ice cream.. Just too darn unhealthy? Well. From the street you might be forgiven for thinking its a gamble to step inside. However once you've crossed the threshold you'll find this place is finished to a hi standard, modern n minimal. When holidaying with family on the south coast this year, I visited a fantastic ice cream parlour and commented how it was one thing that was missing in Birmingham. Imagine my joy when I found out that not only was one opening in Birmingham, but on my local High Street, a mere 5 minute walk from my house. I couldn't wait for an excuse to drag my daughter along. Paradice Gelateria (the purpose misspelling of 'paradise' highlights the 'ice' in their name) opened on 26th November 2014, which must be the low season for this kind of business. Some people have questioned the thinking in opening an ice cream shop in the winter. I believe it comes either by accident of when the deeds and building work had finished or with great forethought. As every new business will have a learning curve in their first few months of opening, is it not better to iron these out and be ready & prepared for 'high season'? It sits on the site (or within the site) of the former Harborne Market. The last business operating from here was a caff, which closed a few years ago. It has sat looking like a dilapidated eyesore on the otherwise (still) fairly thriving Harborne High Street. There are entrances on both the High Street (opposite Harborne Library) and on Vivian Road (opposite Waitrose's car park). The entrance on Vivian Road has a small wooden decked outdoor seating for the summer months. The site has been done out to a high standard and inside bares no resemblance to the tawdry market place the occupied the space before it. The toilets are immaculate and spacious, with changing facilities. In one corner they have a milk from field/cow to ice cream themed soft play area for the little ones. They have a selection of 20 ever-changing homemade ice cream flavours, coupled with cakes and a huge list of pancakes, milkshakes, waffles and sundaes. It truly is a dessert fan's heaven. The staff encourage customers to try a taste of any ice cream before committing to buying a cone or tub (rather like ordering real ale). I opted for a 'mulled wine' ice cream as it was something I had never seen or heard of before. It was nice beautifully textured ice cream, if perhaps a little unusual to have a spicy, boozy ice cream. I knew it wouldn't be a taste I was used to, wasn't Heston revered for making a bacon & eggs ice cream? But, don't worry if you're not adventurous, the other flavours when I went in were things like chocolate, Hello Kitty(?), Ferrero Rocher, Lemon Sorbet, Bubblegum and Mint Choc Chip. There's a nice balance between the tried and tested classics, some newer and exciting flavours and one or two experimental ones. The milkshakes are fantastic! For a chocolate milkshake they blend their homemade chocolate ice cream with milk (obvs) and your favourite chocolate bar, topped with whipped cream, delish! I've yet to try the waffles and pancakes, but will certainly be returning. Apparently the sweet sushi is nice. Did I mention they have sweet sushi? I never even knew that was a thing! I've been in twice now and on both occasions, whilst not busy, there has been a steady flow of customers. They don't seem to have ANY online presence (excepting this entry on Yelp), which is unusual in a modern marketplace and I hope it doesn't hinder their trade too much. So, I am currently the only online voice for Paradice Gelateria, as such I implore you to head to Harborne and check it out. With their late opening hours (9pm during the week 10pm on weekends), you can even have a meal close by and head over for dessert. read more

Yay! Me and my friend are going to Italy and she loves gelato, we couldn't walk past Paradice Gelateria, especially because it was open til 9 in the evening. The design of the parlour was simple. There was a small soft play area, apart from that there was nothing really that stuck out to me. My attention was drawn straight to the gelato, it was between cappuccino and Ferrero Rocher. Luckily the woman that served us encouraged us have a sample of both. We shared a small scoop costing £2.60p. Between the two of us it was still a really good portion. The gelato was smooth, rich and creamy. The quality was very good. What I really liked about Paradice Gelateria was the atmosphere with the other customers. There were couples, young families and friends all having scoops or special giant sundaes. It made a nice alternative for a Friday night out. read more

Paradice Gelateria is one of the only gelato place in the Edgbaston/Harborne area (that I know of anyways). However, it's doesn't get it's high marks simply by being the only competition in town. The gelato here is always delicious and they regularly change up the flavors, so I rarely end up having the same ones twice! Not only that, the flavors they do have are a good combination of old standards (Dulche de leche, chocolate, etc) and unique ones (fig and mascarpone, tutti frutti, and so on). If you order a small cup or cone, you can choose up to two flavors, so you don't have to settle on just one (which helps with so many options)! I recommend you try it out! read more

Great little ice cream parlour on Harborne High Street. You know its good when an ice cream shop is busy in the middle of winter! They have a wide variety of flavours and the selection is often changed meaning return visits often mean a new flavour to try, this weeks new taste was custard cream biscuit. The wife was straight in there! For those with a not so sweet tooth they still have you covered with a specials board of savoury pancake options. iced water is complimentry which is a nice touch when you coated in sticky white choc sauce...just saying ;-) read more

Terrible customer service skills. I arrived and the staff present didn't advise me where to order. I then ordered a large cup of icecream @ £4.40 the staff member did not advise me the pricing and size options or that there was an option to taste. I purchased the icecream and had 2 spoons before I decided I didn't like the watery quality of the icecream. I advised the staff member that I didn't like the icecream quality and asked if I could exchange it for a hot drink instead. The lady was not pleased and initially advised me that she would not exchange the icecream as it was 'my problem' she seemed irate and another 2 staff members made it clear they were discussing my complaint. She exchanged the icecream for a latte but the additional request of a chocolate bar visibly tipped her over the edge she refused and again reiterated that it was 'my problem' with a shrug of the shoulder.
