Ah Iceland. Not my favourite supermarket in the world (can it even be called that?) and well...even with Peter Andre as the face of Iceland, it didn't make me want to visit any more than I do! On the odd occasion, I pop into this Iceland. Usually when I just need to pick up a few bits and can't be bothered/don't have time to shop at Tesco Rutherglen.
This is a small Iceland (there are only about 4 aisles) and it is quite cramped. Don't expect to go in and 'go wild in the aisles' (anyone else miss Supermarket Sweep?!) because that's not going to happen. You'll spend most of time trying to navigate around fellow shoppers and if the freezer you want to look in is crowded, I guarantee you'll give up. It's not well laid out at all...it's just too damn small! And what do the offer to make the narrow aisle situation better? Trolleys! Just to add to the Tetris fun...that's what walking around this store is like.
And yet, they do have some good offers on which I guess is why it's so busy! They sell a lot of stuff I wouldn't buy from here: meats for example, but they have a good range of frozen vegetables and pizzas which I tend to pick up along with my favourite diluting juice. As you would expect, it is mainly frozen goods they offer but they do have some refrigerated items (cooked meats, milk, yoghurt etc) as well as biscuits, breads, cereals, some tinned items, condiments and household cleaning items. They managed to cram a lot into a small space I'll give them that!
I was tempted to give them 2 stars but I've raised it to 3 (and I even considered 4) because of the staff there: they are so incredibly nice and helpful. There is one woman in particular who is seriously a credit to the company. She is so polite, chatty, helpful and nothing is ever too much trouble. She does a great job and seems to love what she does!
If your order is £25 or more (which is a rarity for me, depending on what offers they have on) they offer free home delivery with your Iceland card. That's really handy if you don't fancy carrying your shopping all the way home. Usually, they have really regular delivery slots and you can normally get your items same day. They take care of packing all your bags (you can take any items you want with you) and on the few times I have used this service, it has been excellent. Never had a problem and come on, it's FREE!
This store could do with being a little bigger and as I'm not keen on many Iceland branded products, I can't give it more than 2 stars. But for the wonderful woman that works there...it's getting a 3!! read more
