Which isn't really a criticism, I find it quite comforting in an odd, childhood reminiscing sort of way. Its layout and decor really do take me back to being young. Back when John Major was the hero of our time and my mum took me to Shoprite because The Adults were all so skint we had to buy 9 pence beans. Good times. Sorry - this is my reality, probably not yours. And if it was yours, it wasn't all bad so cheer up. So aye, back to the future, and this Iceland. Bargain food shopping can be a beast of a day out - you can't argue with 3 litres of bottled water for a pound, or a massive bag of chips for £1.50. Times are pretty lean across the board at the moment, so Iceland is a good place to hit up if you're wanting to save some dollars on biscuits and (of course), frozen food. My favourite of this category being fish fingers, which are the business on sandwiches lemme tell ya. I guess what put me off a store I usually like was that, on this occasion, the first thing you encounter when you walk in the store is the booze aisle! I found this very depressing indeed. Product psychology is a dreadful and scary thing, so God knows what message the customers get when they are confronted with cheap booze before they get to the bread section! This will be a layout decision based on some faceless board of directors down in London, but I still think it's rubbish that the booze is cosying up to the check outs. Queues go down fairly quickly in here, and one of the younger girls working on the tills was a ray of sunshine. So if you're looking for food on a budget in the Shawlands area, Iceland is one of your better bets.

While the range of pizzas, burgers and so on are fairly generic- do not go for meals-for-one section, as they are false economy- Iceland does have cheap dairy products: milk, eggs and cheese don't come cheaper than this, at least not in this bulk. Of course, it is hugely frustrating to have to queue for ten minutes- only one till is ever on- but it is worth stopping off here for those bargains. I'd give the tins a once over too: it's the same products as bigger supermarkets, at about half the price.

There is a car park at the back which you have to pay £1 for but this gets refunded if you spend £5 or more in the shop (I have seen someone get fined for not putting a ticket in their window so dont risk it)

It's also possible to buy everything from a wee pack of After Eights for a mere pound to some really excellent mixed chilli olives which would set you back a fortune in a nearby deli or M & S. This is a brilliant shop for those with an eye for a hidden gem or for indeed a junk food devotee. Things like cereals are so cheap it seems wrong to buy them elsewhere- also a great selection of fresh fruit juices. The service is efficient and with contactless payment you can whizz through the checkouts in record time. Supremely located next door to Hillhead underground station and really near to so many specialist and mainstream shops it's worth getting a list together of things Iceland can offer much cheaper than the competition without having to go far out of your way.

They have a great selection of dairy products and the yoghurts at 29pence are just delicious. Leaflets are sent out each week so you know in advance what households products will be on offer the following week. There are only 2 tills but ive never found that to be a problem. This freezer shop is located within the Quadrant shopping centre. It is fairly well kept and has a…read moregood variety of goods on offer. It is mostly frozen foods but they also have groceries which can be very competitively priced. The staff are quite helpful. The store is easily accessed by disabled people and there is a car park located on the upper lovel of the centre. There are escalators and lifts available to get to the car park. The downside to the store is that it is located within this centre which is not very busy. A lot of passing trade would be missed as it is actually very difficult to find it. They have a savings stamp scheme available which is good for saving for food for a special occasion such as Christmas.

There is a surprisingly good variety for the size of the shop. It offers a selected choice of fruit and veg, tinned goods and of course frozen foods. The shop is clean and the staff are friendly.
