After my child was born, the perinatal and postnatal care I received was so poor and negligent that I actually almost died. I had unfortunately developed a bacterial infection from my delivery but Raleigh Obgyn was no longer interested in me. They had already gotten their money. They ignored my complaints about how badly I was feeling and told me to get Covid tests (3x). They also said I was probably just having a harder postnatal course because of my age (as I was in my 40s). Ultimately, my infection traveled to my heart and caused endocarditis. I have since had 3 heart surgeries, 5 arteries removed due to aneurysms, 3 arteries replaced and multiple strokes due to an aneurism in my head. and if anyone wants to know why a lawsuit didn't occur. . It is because Governor Cooper put in place an umbrella clause in NC state law that from 2020-2023 (during the pandemic) doctors could not be sued for malpractice ...although I had lawyers who still wanted to try to fight for me and my case because they saw how much I had gone through and that there should have been an expectation of care received ... but I was given no care ... and all I actually needed was a doctor to assess me and give me a simple antibiotic. I gave birth naturally on May 12, 2025, under Dr. Briscoe's care. This was my second pregnancy, and I was determined and hopeful to have a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Throughout my prenatal visits, multiple doctors reassured me that I was an excellent candidate for vaginal delivery given my age (32) and good health with no medical history. However, Dr. Briscoe was the only physician who strongly discouraged me from trying for a vaginal birth and insisted that she would not "take any risk," even though other medical professionals assessed my risks as minimal. To be honest, I found Dr. Briscoe's attitude and communication style during my care to be discouraging and dismissive. Her demeanor made me feel uncomfortable and anxious about continuing my delivery under her supervision. Unfortunately, my labor began on a day when she was on duty, leaving me with no choice but to proceed under her care. During labor, I experienced prolonged contractions and extended pushing, but Dr. Briscoe informed me that my delivery would be "hands-off" -- a term I did not fully understand at the time. Throughout my labor, my husband and sister-in-law were present to support me. My sister-in-law, who wears a head covering, was quietly praying for me in the delivery room, as my family was extremely worried about my prolonged labor. However, Dr. Briscoe's gestures and demeanor made us feel unwelcome and judged, which added unnecessary emotional stress during an already vulnerable moment. Dr. Briscoe did not monitor me as frequently as expected during the delivery. As a result, I suffered a severe third-degree tear, which, based on my research and medical consultations since, might have been preventable or at least anticipatedgiven my prolonged contractions and pushing time. Had I been informed of this heightened risk, I could have chosen to proceed with a cesarean section to avoid such a traumatic outcome. The aftermath has been devastating. I have endured intense pain and severe physical complications, including fecal and urinary incontinence, which have lasted for months. I could not sit comfortably for nearly 15 weeks postpartum. These physical challenges have been compounded by emotional distress and postpartum depression, as I struggled to care for my newborn and older twins while coping with pain and loss of dignity. Adding to this hardship, I requested Dr. Briscoe's assistance in completing necessary medical forms for my employer to process short-term disability leave. Despite providing written authorization for the release of my medical information, Dr. Briscoe refused to include my diagnosis of a third-degree tear. I spent several exhausting weeks exchanging messages with Dr. Briscoe and her assistant, Karen, trying to obtain a properly completed form -- to no avail. When I later requested another medical form to support a remote work accommodation, the same dismissive and negligent pattern continued. I have had to chase after them repeatedly, often feeling humiliated and ignored, while managing my health and caring for my children. I am deeply disappointed by the lack of empathy, professionalism, and support I received from Dr. Briscoe and her team. No patient, especially a new mother in pain, should have to fight for basic medical documentation or feel disregarded by the very professionals entrusted with her care. The chances of conceiving are presented in averages of people over lifetime and don't actually have anything to do with your potential outcomes. Per patient, the chances of conceiving are less than 5% per cycle and 15% per fertile lifespan compounded by age, tube length left, and overall health. The 55% to 85% chance you're given to sign up for surgery is not a real statistic pertaining to you, its the number they came to averaging all their patients and the few positive outcomes versus the typical outcome. 5% is far lower than what you want to hear. I'm in the 1.5% per cycle realm and would never have done this had I known the way the statistics are manipulated prior to. Of course it's a business, their goal is to get you in the door and their fine print means you can't do anything but continue feeding the fertility dragon or quit trying. Taking advantage of people who would pay with an arm and a leg for a baby is rather disgusting. I can't even get my actual doctors to do imaging or even prove my tunes are even connected and functioning and not scarred over because they say to call the doctor who performed surgery who returned my call with call your ob. There's no continuity of care. They do not care what your outcome is. They get your money and never see you again. These doctors sell false hope wrapped up in overexaggerated success rates. Save yourselves the trouble and do ivf not tubal reanastomosis and don't go here. While great, there really should be consequences to falsely advertising parenthood and wasting precious time for people they ultimately could care less about. Point proven in that we're all practically anonymous and unmemorable to these doctors. They see new paying people daily and don't have time for follow ups. Your surgical follow up isn't even dolled up in concern. Its simply oh you're alive, great, read your op report in pieces and have a nice day. I had to do my own research with other fertility doctors just to understand the actual odds of getting pregnant after this surgery and its misleading to say the least. I would recommend adoption before this route. At least then you understand the heartbreaking avenue you chose to go down when disappointment arises and there is an actual chance of something happening for you. Plus you won't get angry when you call the doctors who cut you open for the next steps or even just confirmation you are still good and they tell you to call someone else. The doctors words are so short and to the point you feel stupid for asking questions anyways. Its been almost a year and I wish we hadn't gone here. I saved up to do this for years and I hope I can save enough for adoption or ivf before I age out of the desires. Even if I got pregnant tomorrow, I'd feel the same. You start the journey thinking it'll be exciting and full of support only to realize you're alone and out thousands to figure it out by yourself.

What are you going to tell your son one day?" Doctor, that's none of your business. That implantation ended in a miscarriage. For the next two [failed] implantations, my doctor added different medications saying "at this point, the studies are all voodoo, so why not try." She knows more than me so I trusted her, which I shouldn't have done. She tested my thyroid and gave me medication but never told me how important it is to take thyroid medication separate from other medicines. I realize she's not an endocrinologist, but if you prescribe it, you should give the warning. At one point I was taking over 11 pills and a shot. She also assumed that adding more estrogen was the answer and my levels were skyrocketing. Again, I'm not the doctor. As I said, both my implantations failed. I know that IVF is never a guarantee. And I don't completely fault the facility, however, in my journey to expand my family I feel like I wasted a year at Carolina Conceptions. New to the area, I thought it was my only option. It's not.

They flat-out refused to provide me with any preventative care. I am 30 weeks pregnant and sitting around waiting to have a stroke because they won't let me talk to a doctor.

It was great having Jessica come check up on me postpartum and go through some basics of breastfeeding, infant care, and also just giving us a small break during the early newborn days. We've recently also worked with Amanda for babysitting services and she's amazing! ERDC does it all. They are big on community and fostering support before, during, and after birth.
