I had to file a chargeback. Under Texas Education Code - EDUC § 132.061. Refund Policy, (g) A program that is 40 hours or less of course time, or a seminar or workshop, is exempt from the 72-hour rule provided by Subsection (a).  The career school or college shall maintain a policy for the refund of the unused portion of tuition, fees, and other charges in the event the student fails to enter the program or withdraws or is discontinued from the program at any time before completion of the program as provided by this section.  The policy must provide that: (1) refunds are based on the period of enrollment computed on the basis of course or program time; (2) the effective date of termination for refund purposes is the earlier of: (A) the last date of attendance;  or (B) the date the school or college receives written notice from the student that the student is withdrawing from the class;  and (3) the student will be refunded the pro rata portion of tuition, fees, and other charges that the number of hours remaining in the portion of the program for which the student has been charged after the effective date of termination bears to the total number of hours in the portion of the program for which the student has been charged. https://codes.findlaw.com/tx/education-code/educ-sect-132-061/ I found a better and less demanding course within 17 hours of signing up for this course, and one that has hours that more suit my sleep schedule and work schedule. I called the same day and tried to come to an amicable solution to cancelling the 32 hour course, which wasn't set to begin for more than 3 weeks later. He laughed at me and said "good luck getting your money back". For someone that is supposed to be in the recovery community, his behavior was completely unamicable and rooted in theft. I had completed a $50 dollar course from them in the past, and this is how he treated a return customer. No "thanks for your business, I get it, we lost nothing, you shouldn't either". Use any other service. If you look at other reviews, many other people have been treated in a similar manner. They specialize in taking your money and misinforming you to think you have no consumer protection after you checkout. But they are required by Texas Law to provide refunds for classes under 40 hours. They are taking advantage of people who are in a tough situation and predatory, and hoping you don't research your rights as a consumer. Not the kind of person you need to teach you anything about life, behavior, or morals. That is criminal. To make a living doing what he does, is pathetic. Not even providing a service yet but expecting to keep your money, and flaunting Texas law? Talk about lame. And the first time I used them, it took them MONTHS to send the completed Victim Impact Panel certificate to the appropriate authority. Months of calls from both me and my officer, trying to call Karen, and they dodged the call until literally the calender year itself had changed. Nothing but a bad taste in my mouth dealing with the Alamo Center. There are plenty of other options out there, and these people do not deserve your money one bit, nor should they be accredited as they do not follow Texas law about providing for refunds.
