I am new to the area. I walked into this lovely store. I was so excited! There were two women who worked there. They were beyond rude. I asked questions about the yarn. There answers were short. No other customers were in the store! I bought $200 worth of yarn. When I went up to the counter with my purchases, one of them started to be nice. Two other customers cane into the store while I was shopping. These women were very friendly to them. I've been knitting for sixty years. I used to manage fabric stores. I know what good customer service is. I will never walk into that store again. read more

My wife visited the other day and was really impressed. Very nice store supplying the knitting arts - nice selection of yarns and needles and all the other items one might look for. Probably the nicest thing here - besides the store personnel who could not have been more helpful and accommodating and knowledgeable - was the selection of classes that they hold during the year. The store is located right on the streetside of a little strip mall on La Grange Road as you enter the town of La Grange. Easy to find and get to, and parking is available right outside the store. I love this store! It is very well-stocked, but what makes it special are the two women running it. Chandra and Nancy are so knowledgeable and helpful, so much fun to work with! They always make sure you get what you are looking for, help you with your project. They are also involved with the charity afghan blankets making. The ladies of Idea Studio always have such great ideas in terms of color, fiber and patterns. Idea Studio is always warm and welcoming. Early in Covid, before we could actually go to stores, I wanted some yarn for a small project. Chandra took photos and emailed me so I could have a better idea of what the yarns looked like. They always go the extra mile to help you. Also they have a very broad selection of yarns and beads as well. What I appreciate is that in addition to some upscale yarns, they have a good selection of medium priced yarns but still of excellent quality for projects that don't warrant a high priced expenditure. They also have the sale bin, where you can find some fun surprises. They always have such interesting samples knit up that give you great ideas for patterns you might like to make. I had a weird problem with a pattern that appeared to have errors in it and Chandra took the time over the phone to help me. It wasn't even a pattern that she had knit but rather had a sample garment (from the yarn manufacturer). She actually took the trouble to measure the sample and count stitches to help me determine how to work around the errors in the pattern! The frosting on the cake is that they have a parking lot so you can pull right in - no searching for a parking space. My only regret is that they are located in LaGrange (and I live in River Forest). $4.50 for 20 grams of bulk wool roving (soft and clean of vegetable matter, I might add) is a great price! There were only about a dozen colors, so that was a little bit of a let down. A small assortment of Clover and Dimensions needle felting supplies were comparable to online prices. Friendly, helpful staff. Beware of the guard dog...she's small, blind, and may get underfoot! read more

I was looking for somewhere to take knitting classes and looked at several places near where I live. Idea Studio appeared to have a very organized, progressive offering. The 4 week beginners class started with the simple and took the student thru the steps. The classes were perfect for me and the way I like to learn. Chandra (sp?) is amazingly patient with someone who seems to have forgotten how to count - LOL! I am not very good but looking forward to getting better thanx to her patience and knowledge. Awesome find on La Grange road! I used to knit and crochet a bit when I was younger, but I kind of stopped and forgot how to do it. I took some classes over the summer and I'm very happy that I did! The owners are very helpful and really try to make you independent so you can read patterns by yourself. I set up times to go to my classes on my own time, so they are very flexible. They have a nice selection of yarn and other supplies at reasonable prices. You should really consider checking this place out! read more

She introduced me to all of the different yarns they have and showed me just how knowledgable they are about the products they sell. Very warm and welcoming women that work at this place! I took a start knitting class which was fantastic because I learned to knit properly. I knitted as a kid but I don't think I was knitting properly. First day gave me a pattern to work with and taught me how to see the pattern in my work. I liked it so much because although it was a start knit class I was able to move forward by getting a hat pattern. They also help you trouble shoot your work by explaining how you went wrong ie looping yarn to get an extra stitch. They welcome you in and tell you to call or stop by with questions. I finished my first cable hat made with alpaca yarn that matches my coat! I am now working on a top down sweater. Their product are of high quality! I love knitting a great way to unwind from a long day of work! read more
