The majority of it's stocks are predominately healthier, and while pricier it is good support the independents, and buy foods of a much higher qaulity than a lot of groceries. This doesn't need to be every day, but when you're looking for the fresh version of something, i.e, pastas, and meat products, and want to indulge in superior ingredients, then wild things is the place for you. Not a place one would shop at everyday, but a nice place to do so. It seems these types of stores are becoming a trademark of the more well off suburbs.

A cheese section that would sate a field of mice and most cheese gourmets. The freshly cut meats, salads, quiches and antipasto would be a welcomed addition to your Spring racing picnic. The range here is fabulous, and the staff helpful. The deli is all kinds of right. Then there's the cake and pastry cabinet at the back of the store next to the milk and the baked goods, fresh bread, rolls, danish and muffins. The health food aisle down the center of the store divides the fresh section to the grocery section, where usual supermarket brands are dispersed with gourmet variations. Head towards the checkouts and you will find chocolates, magazines and flowers rounding out your trip. There is usually not enough checkouts open, but its worth the wait for foodie inspiration. The Liquor store is as varied and well stocked as the supermarket. More expensive then your average chain supermarket but you pay for what you get, and what you find at Leo's is a great range of high quality produce. If your a foodie, looking for something special or just want to grocery shop to the sound of popular jazz or world music then Leo's Fine food & wine is for you.

From the first glance around the shelves it's clear that Brunswick IGA is as independent a…read moresupermarket as they come. The tell-tale signs are all there; the comparatively cramped space the store inhabits, the slightly nonsensical layout of the isles and displays (with some exceptions; putting a huge tampon display next to the chocolate isle may not be as illogical as it first appears), the surplus of markdown stickers overtaking the shelves. The latter feature is one of Brunswick IGA's greatest assets, which boasts more specials each week than your pocket calculator could ever dare to comprehend in a quick trip to the shops. Indeed, the prices on the whole tend toward the lower end of the scale when compared to most other independent grocery stores, with a few items managing to compete with the giants of the industry. That said, there are cheaper places in the neighbourhood to purchase fruit and vegetables, but the quality is generally decent enough. The bottle shop is small but moderately priced, albeit located on the opposite side of the store to the car park. License restrictions also require that all alcohol be purchased from the counter on that side of the store, which can be slow during peak times. If you hit the store at the wrong time, the checkouts might be clogged with elderly folk insistent on paying in loose change. Still, the staff are mostly fairly efficient, despite the odd sour demeanour (though this phenomenon is hardly unique to this store). The store also boasts a fairly decent range of obscure and specialty food items catering to the multicultural nature of the area, from Greek through to Lebanese goods. My personal victory find was Harissa paste. One of the main downsides to is the early closing time of 9pm, which is occasionally ushered in a little earlier. On the other hand, it tends to open on most public holidays. On the whole, a Brunswick IGA is a convenient and reliable grocery store (though it couldn't hurt to double check expiry dates).

This includes gluten free items/brands that they are not providing replacements for. Every so often, something I buy regularly is just gone, and when I enquire, I am told, "we don't stock that anymore." It's a bit of a shame, as I don't have time to visit multiple supermarkets during the week, so we have started trying to do our main shop at Safeway on the weekends. They just have more options. It means driving an extra 15 mins or so, but that's what we have to do.

I told the cashier about the discrepancy, so she did a price check. When she came back she said it scanned at the right price. So sure I didn't make a mistake, I went back with an employee there, and he pointed out to a price tag about half way along the shelf, showing $2.49c. Then I pointed out the bread from the corner of the shelf, and showed him the price tag of $2.45c. He said no, that is an old one. And before I could get my phone out to take a picture of it, he quickly removed the tag, screwed it up and put it in his pocket. So now it's my word against there's. So to sum up, the shelf price on display at Piedimonte Nth.Fitzroy is not what you pay at the checkout.

The double shop fronted grocery store sells your usual, run-of-the-mill staple foods and fresh fruit and vegetables, plus a few Asian goodies like sauces and noodles. The last time I popped in, such was my good timing, that I scored a huge, fresh saucer-shaped Turkish bread for only $2.50 - half price. So sizeable was the wheaty treat that it took my man and I a good few days and several homemade dips to finish it off. Hard work, but someone has to do it. Time your visit well and you too can be a breadwinner like me.
