Even when she wasn't assigned to her, she would make a point to stop in, check on her, and spend time talking with her. She consistently encouraged my mom to push herself in order to get better, always with kindness and compassion. Dawn truly cared for my mom as if she were her own family member. She held her hand during difficult procedures, gently washed her hair at the bedside, and brought moments of laughter and comfort during a very challenging time. She is an incredibly hardworking and dedicated caregiver who goes far beyond expectations. I truly believe she played a significant role in my mom's recovery. Specialty Services is lucky to have someone like Dawn--and so were we.

A mixed bag review for Select Specialty Hospital located in St. Joe's Ypsilanti. This place made…read morelots of promises but delivered on few the first go around but they did much better on the second time we needed to use them. When my dad needed an acute care center to rid him of his trach tube and to help him with his physical therapy beyond what the hospital could do, this place came highly recommended. With a patient/nurse ratio of 2 to 1, we felt that my dad would get the care he needed. We were put on a wait list to get in and after a few days my dad was transferred in. Unfortunately, on the first stay- they really didn't do anything that they said there were going to do so he left exactly the way that he went in. Where was the trach rehab, where was the physical therapy? And why were they pushing him out before anything had been done for him? On his next stay, my dad's health was worse and it was during this stay that I actually thought he got great care . . . .like I expected the on the first go around. One nurse in particular, Georgane, stood out. She was great with my dad, asking about who he was before he was sick, and really taking the time to do what needed to be done with him. She seemed to genuinely care. Also- the social worker who was assigned us was very helpful in the end when we were looking for hospice care. She found a hospice that believed in what we did and it made the transition to home care very easy. This is the newest of the Select Specialty care locations so the rooms are mostly private and the place is clean and new with all amenities like flat screen TV's, decent chairs and large windows. If we hadn't had such a bad go around the first time- this would have been a 4 star review for sure.

On Saturday I started to fell sick. Gavin was home Thursday and Friday from school because he was…read moresick, so it was evident that I caught what he had. I flew out of SFO on Sunday and started to feel worse and worse. My hearing started to be muffled, but I thought it is because of the flight. After some encouragement from my colleague, I scheduled my visit to get it addressed. I selected 3:15, arrived at 3 and did not get in until 3:45. I did not see the doctor until 4. I got out at 4:50. Even though I was not thrilled about the wait time, but I am impressed with the level of care and service here. I felt that they listened to what my symptoms were and they helped make me feel better. Turns out I have the flu, my nose was red, my ears was red, and my throat was red. The wheezing reduced once I completed the 10 minute breathing treatment given to me. I've been taking DayQuil, NyQuil, and cough drops in order to help suppress my coughs and help me sleep. I hope to never return, but if I am sick the next time I am here, I would not hesitate to come back to be seen. I do have the prescription for antibiotics if I don't feel better by tomorrow. I did pickup the inhaler and the nasal spray to help with the congestion. Thank you for treating me.

When she's either busy (with other patients), out of town or has prior commitments, I usually go see Dr. Dyksterhouse (as of early this year) and he too is a very humourous physician, but is the opposite of Kusiak. I've been not only a big asset to these physicians, whom I see them, as my family, they are now my friends, as I'm part of the Trinity Health group.

Dr. Yarrows did not take the time to perform the full physical, even though that was requested, and only was in the room for 10 min. I thought it was just easier than most visits, until I was billed for an office visit and charged a co-pay. The billing company and the clinic both stated that since a physical wasn't performed, the visit was considered an office visit, and that we are responsible for the payment. Not only did I not receive the services that I needed, but we were charged for something completely separate that I didn't ask for. The clinic was not sympathetic to the frustration, would not re-code the visit, and we had to pay the bill.

And what do you know they all came back negative! So they sent me on my way with a nausea medication and a cough suppressant when I had NO COUGH! I Had to call back up here because I was not getting any better and to have them call in an antibiotic. And once I started taking the antibiotics that I HAD TO ASK TO BE SENT IN I was feeling better.

Although the initial irrigation of the wound was extremely painful (couldn't be helped), Lauren expertly managed to close the wound using the existing, paper-thin skin without further trauma to my mother. Her manner was gentle and compassionate. Checking the wound the next day, Mom's primary care physician was impressed by Lauren's obvious skill. We were very lucky to have had such a competent PA attending to Mom.

I will say the PA and receptionist were fine, it was the young woman who was the assistant that was horrible. She actually made me cry. I have never been treated by a medical professional like this before, she acted like a total spoiled brat. It was actually bizarre. She slammed into the room to take my vitals, and did it in about 3 minutes. I had breathing issues and needed an EKG. She slammed the table down so I could lie flat, then since I couldn't breathe laying flat I asked for a pillow. She told me that no, they don't have pillows and made me feel bad for even asking for one. She couldn't figure out the EKG machine and after ten minutes of laying flat and not being able to breathe I asked if there was someone who could help? She slammed out of the room and made the PA do it, which she did on the first try. I came out and that girl was sitting in a chair facing the wall with her arms crossed, like a spoiled kid. It was CRAZY. They have old equipment and no X-ray services, either so I had to take an actual prescription to go find my own place to do a chest X-ray. Never again.
