Since we didn't have a booking our party of 5 had to sit in the inner courtyard - and we couldn't have been happier. I started with ginger beer, thinking I was getting the alcoholic kind, but it wasn't. Others started with juice and the local beer. There selection was somewhat limited as the festival had cleaned them out the weekend before and they hadn't fully restocked yet. I started with the papaya salad - nicely spicy though it could've used more herbs. Others enjoyed the vegan spring rolls, the summer rolls without meat, the coconut soup, and the vegan sweet potato cake. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed the pad thai with prawns, though again, I would've enjoyed some more aromatics tossed in. Others enjoyed the vegan clay pot, beef with green curry, and duck. All the plates were clean, so you know we enjoyed it. Service was very friendly and particularly helpful in recommending local beer. We easily split the check at the till at the bar. No AMEX.

The lunch: Thai soup with shrimps, soft boiled egg, noodles and soja. A little bit spicy but very tasty

A very nice surprise! In a city known for its university I didn't expect some proper food but there it was. If you're looking for originality and good food, that's definitely a place to try. I had the lunch which was only 120 sek, pretty cheap for what I had in my plate (check the pictures). I also tried a local brewed beer which was completely fine. The place was cosy (even if a bit chilly because we were close to the door) and the waiter was so friendly!

Cozy veranda - Nice tables, seating and floor

New opening! After our touristic tour in Lund, we were lucky to find that brand new place (opened for an hour only). All perfect : unique tasting food!

Location-wise Mae Yai is located in the central parts of the city but without the noise and pollution which makes it a relaxing place. The staffs are very friendly, accommodating and genuinely interested in costumer feedbacks. However implementing changes, well that is another story. Lunches are decent, affordable and most importantly flexible and that means you can pick and choose and combine among several items from the "todays menu", smorgasbord ME any time baby! However please serve it in larger plates so that pants, shirts or table are not sharing it with me! A la carte menu is not as intriguing as one might expect even though it seems huge. A menu must be considered somewhat limited if for instance spring roll can be order as starter as well as main but then served with rice and salad. I love the fact one is free to choose among several proteins but I say this again, and this is true sadly for many Thai places, the protein choice is less desirable if they all in the end taste the same!! The heat and the balance of spices are fine at Mae Yai, it is not Swedishified bland nor is it Bangkok HOT! I can recommend the duck in green curry sauce here, but sadly I must say the chicken which is my preferred choice of protein can be somewhat odd here. Twice I have ordered dishes containing "freezer burned chicken" and even the Thai spices can't help you with that. In fact the main reason why Mae Yai is only getting 2 star rating is because they are somewhat sloppy with ingredients quality control and in Thai kitchens freshness is essential.

The red and green bell peppers were cooked but still had a little crunch. It's a cozy place with super nice people. It appears to be family run. A suggestion for the owner, if you add Fresh rolls with shrimp, thinly sliced cucumbers and a touch of mint to the menu, it would be very popular here. I will be telling everyone about this place

Remember the lighting was very bright and some of the furniture could use a refresh. We started with some Thai beer (Chang-Pale Lager) & wine (also have a good selection of Thai mixed drinks (non-alcoholic) & ordered the spring egg (Varullar) roll appetizer (6). The rolls were crispy with a nice balance of protein and veggie filling. Dipping it in the sweet sauce mixed with their chili powder made for a tasty appetizer. I wanted a spicy noodle dish and our server recommended Kothiaw Haeng (#30) it was tasty and spicy with a good balance of the fried rice noodles and veggies (although I added some of the chili powder to increase the heat) chicken was also good once mixed with the chili sauce. The rest of the party ordered Kothiaw Nam (#21), Pad Sihio (#35) & Pad Med Ma-Him Mu Paan (#45) and were happy with their entrees. Prices were reasonable at about $14-15 USD for most entrees and seafood/duck dishes slightly higher. Dessert looked good but we ended up not ordering-didn't have room. Good space between courses & service was attentive and friendly.

Our choices for dinner (day before reservation) were seating at 6:15 or earlier or 9:15 or later so reservations well in advance are recommended. We started with cocktails (& they had a few creations) & had a "Buried in Sand" and a "Holy Mule-" Both excellent! Our server was helpful & made some wonderful suggestions once she found out it was our first visit. All the dishes (small & large) are great for sharing. As it seemed a staple of the menu (that changes daily) as well one of their specialties we decided to start with the Bastard Planka. A nice variety of house cured ham, salami, chorizo, pate & pickles-one of the best I've ever had. Also ordered the Klemmings Oysters as our second starter. So fresh, salty & exquisite! For main we ordered the Cod & the Munka Pork (as Pork is their specialty). Cod was cooked to perfection and the Pork had a crust that took it to another level. Both dishes were amazing! We finished with the Pistachio Ice Cream and Paris -Brest. Loved them both but the Paris-Brest is a must try! My only regret is not getting here sooner. Wonderful vibe with great service! They also have a bar area (open kitchen) where you can grab a seat to try some of the entrees or just have a cocktail, beer or glass of wine if they are fully booked. Will definitely be back. Michelin rating well deserved!
