A little gem in the middle of Frankfurt. My friend and I were exploring Frankfurt and we made a pit stop at IIMORI bakery. It had good reviews and we wanted to get some flakey croissants. We walked in and felt like we were transported to France. The interior decorations feature eclectic French and Asian inspired furniture and plates/cups. The chocolate croissants were perfect flakey layers. The latte was also very delicious with a smooth taste. read more

This is a review for the Iimori Restaurant that is above the patisserie and seems to have the same owner. There apparently isn't a separate Yelp listing for it so I'm posting my review here. I went for the all you can eat lunch which was recommended on one of the travel sites (can't remember which one). The restaurant and patisserie is in an old building, the bottom floor is the pattiserie and the 1st floor is the restaurant which takes up the whole floor. The main eating room is basically the old kitchen and dining room in the front of the floor. Most of the food is on the big kitchen island, which isn't much bigger than what I have at home (seats 4 on one side). The sushi is all on one tray which they replenish when most of it is gone. There are only 2 pieces of each type of nigiri when it comes out plus a bunch of rolls so you have to be at the counter at the right time to snag the pieces you want. Quality was ok for an all you can eat place and temperature was room temp for both fish and rice, which is not great for late May. But my fellow diners kept joking that this place has been open for a long time without any food poisoning. Joking aside, it was pretty hot that day and we all didn't have any tummy aches so it was ok. So I would give 3.5/5 or the sushi. Apart from the sushi, they had a lot of appetizer stuff, the whole front row. After the sushi, I had a lot of the hot foods, which included largish tempura/fried shrimp, gyoza, Japanese pancakes. They even had a waffle iron. The dessert pieces were pretty good and they had a small ice cream cooler to the side. Price was 25euro per person plus drinks. I enjoyed the entire selection of food. I could probably have had a better meal for that price in Seattle but I enjoyed the eclectic selection of food and the funky decor of the place. I would probably go there again just to try it again and to have something different from regular German fare. read more

I simply love Iimori. Every time I visit Frankfurt that's a sure stop during my free time. All pastry options are exquisite and very true to the authentic Japanese version (maybe a tad more sweet). Iimori is also a terrific place to have lunch, with a variety of options from classical okonomyaki (a type of Japanese pancake with seafood) and donburi to traditional sushi. The place is very cozy, and service is also great. Probably the only drawbacks are price (just a bit too expensive) and the sheer amount of people that visit the place, so sometimes it might be difficult to find a free table to sit down and enjoy your treats. read more

Cool place that look like you are in France from the decor but more like you are in Asia when you look at the food and ladies that work there. You really notice this place as something special when you are walking past and that it is. It really looks like you are walking into France. From the furniture to the wallpaper, everything looks the part. The pastries all looked amazing and I really wanted to try one but I was so full and we were only going in to grab a coffee to warm up. The drinks are ordered at the counter and then brought over you you on silver trays after you sit down. Also with tiny little cups of steamed milk instead of just normal coffee creamer, a nice touch! The only bad thing about this place is that the ladies that work there have a bit of attitude. read more

But even though the desserts look just like they should, everything else about this place made me not want to even take a bite. At first, I actually left the café, but ended up coming back just to take some desserts to go. I did not want to stay. Such a disappointment. Really brought down the excitement level of my trip to Frankfurt. Not clean. Service is not friendly. Handling money with the same hands used to pick out the food. The wallpaper is tattered. Some of the walls have mold on them. I'm not sure why it is so popular or crowded, because it's not someplace that I would ever come back to again. My wife and I have dined at Iimori restaurant a handful of times in total. The restaurant is located just upstairs from the bustling Iimori patisserie. Being from New York, which I consider to be quite rich in Sushi cuisine, I was at first skeptical about eating sushi in a patisserie. However, the dining area upstairs is an entirely different establishment. The decor and the ambiance gives off a homey and welcoming vibe. Seeing only a group of older Japanese ladies dining gave us the impression that we had stumbled upon an a little known gem in the heart of Frankfurt. We each ordered the Sushi Bento, which come for about 11Euros a piece. We waited. And waited. And waited. It confounded us to how the kitchen would find itself backed up, what with very few other diners in the restaurant. After 1 hour, and many "What is going on here?" and "Did that table get its food before us?" exchanges between my wife and I, our food finally arrived. The saving grace for Iimori is that the food was decent and very reasonably priced. We visited the next day as well, because my wife really loves sushi and this place was cheap enough. I only hoped that the wait from the day before was only a fluke. It wasn't. Another 1 hour wait for our food ensued. As we waited, we noticed that everyone else was enjoying the all-you-can-eat brunch buffet. On this occasion, the servers were very busy replenishing the sushi and tempura platters (which looked very appetizing). We realized, this was the probably the proper way to dine at Iimori. The next few times we visited, we reserved our spot for the all-you-can-eat brunch. It costs about 19-20Euros per person, but one can sample a fairly nice selection of sushi, (including an interesting seared salmon with skin on), and of course some small samples of cakes and macaroons from downstairs. Green tea cakes are nice, but the macaroons are usually stale. Unfortunately, drinks are not included and are actually quite expensive. About 3.80 Euro for a cup of green tea. On the last (and definitely final) visit, we arrived on time and the buffet had not even been prepared yet. My wife remarked that the manager was not around this time, which could explain the lazy start by the staff. One business practice that we noticed was that each piece of sushi comes with about 100grams of rice. After 5 sushi, one has already consumed a pound of rice. Seems like an easy way for them to save on fish, just fill the customer up with rice instead. Obviously we did not come there just to eat rice, so we started removing the excess. Apparently, that was a mistake. After we finished and asked for the check, the waitress returned from the kitchen with our discarded plates and told us that it was restaurant policy that we cannot leave the rice. One of the cooks popped out of the kitchen just to stare daggers at us as she informed us of this unwritten policy. Clearly they were miffed not that we did not finish the rice, but that we ate too much sushi. It is all you can eat and I do not want to consume inordinately large quantities of rice. Moreover, a customer is entitled to eat as much fish as they please. If I am leaving rice in my plate am I being wasteful? Or is it that they are wasteful by using too much rice? Advice to the management: Do not bother or intimidate a paying customer. read more

I walked by this place and I saw that they had macarons so I HAD to come in (since I LOVE LOVE LOVE macarons and have to try them everywhere I go). Turns out, I ended up getting their green tea torte since they didn't have any macaron flavors that I liked. The trip and the torte were TOTALLY worth it. I absolutely loved the torte. The green tea flavor really came out, and it didn't have too much crust that it overpowered the rest of the cake. There's also a layer of red beans between the crust and the green tea mousse part, and it really added to the flavor. TLDR: get the green tea torte read more

Green tea torte was amazing. Truly unique, as I haven't had one outside Germany before. The green tea mousse is separated by a thin layer of red bean, followed by green tea cake and then the crust. The flavors went into complemented each other quite well. Chocolate torte was good as well. Not as good as the green tea, but the chocolate was the right level of sweetness and consistency. Small, cosy, french period-styled (late 1920s??) café with japanese service. Very romantic, I found myself whispering in here so as not to disturb the hushed atmosphere. The counter is full of mumptious, bumptious scrumdidlyumtious cakes, bread and pastries. Quite the sort of place one could have taken miss poppins. I enjoyed it best on a quiet february afternoon on my own. You can park in the Parkhaus Römer across the street. Perfect lazy winter afternoon. Start with a brisk stroll in the Museum of Modern Art to get your brain warmed up. Follow this with a quick visit to in Bitter and Zart (the chocolaterie around the corner) and fill a little bag of goodies for your loved one. Do a bit of window browsing in the art galleries in the neighbourhood. Then pop in to to Iimori for an engaged chat and some cake. The excitement of knowing that you have a bag of chocolate sin on your person will keep you in goosebumps until you get home. read more

A lovely Japanese-French cafe/restaurant (restaurant at level 1). With vintage and colorful interior design, the ambient is relaxing and comfortable. The service team is also friendly. There are a variety of Japanese-Western pastries, which are delicate and tasty. I also love the various choice of Asian drinks that is served in the cafe, although the coffee in the menu only tastes normal. The foods from the menu/buffet in the restaurant part taste alright, but are more pricey than I would expect. read more

I had a macha green tea and raspberry (Himbeere) macaron (1.90€) and a slice of a very rich chocolate cake (~4.70 € cannot remember the actual name or price). I was very much surprised at how good it all tasted. I am currently living in Germany and it is hard to come by a sweet that is...well very sweet. Most sweets here are mild in sweetness, but IIMORI did the trick. The only downside is that it is a little heavy in price for my student wallet, but it was worth it. The atmosphere is pretty cozy and while I visited it was very busy. Ordering was a little chaotic because people crowded in front of the pastries and clogged the front door. Also the rules of making a line here are not very solid so you might have to put yourself out there. read more

This review is only about the Sunday brunch. Went there quite late on a Sunday, around 2pm. Brunch officially ends at 3pm. Very nice and cozy interior design. Looks like an old school living room with adjacent open kitchen. 5 stars for that. Selection is rather limited compared to other brunch places in Frankfurt but it is quite diversified. Different kinds of Sushi (Maki, Nigiri, etc.), Miso soup, chicken, japanese omelette, spring rolls, dumplings, beef with tofu and some delicious pastries for dessert to just name a few. Some things were already empty by the time we arrived and were not refilled until we left. Almost no fruits. Overall rating for the selection just 2 stars but 5 stars for the taste. Service was friendly and fast. 5 stars. Price is a bit steep, roughly 20 EUR for the food. Drinks are extra. No fresh orange juice :( Price value ratio 3 stars. A big plus for its uniqueness as it is the only Japanese brunch I know of. At least in the greater Frankfurt area. Overall: Recommended if you want to experience something "different". 4 stars. read more

Well I'm in love. Combine a charming cafe space with delicious coffee and eyewateringly beautiful desserts and you have IIMORI. This is a fascinating place that combines the all charm of a Parisian bakery with a hint of Japanese flair. We stopped by for a coffee and light dessert, and we were not disappointed. Everything was a feast for the eyes, from the decor to the bakery case to the beautifully served coffee. I really want to go back some day for lunch and basically to eat my way through the dessert selection. If a patisserie heaven exists in the universe, there are just a few portals to it--IIMORI is one of them (Amelie's Wohnzimmer and the Queen of Tarts are the others). read more

It's a cute place, but food is mediocre and services SUPER slow. Tried all their green tea cakes and their petit four, just ok. Took also something from their menu: Udon soup and sashimi. They used the cheapest udon that you could buy in the supermarkets and sashimi was still a bit frozen. Would not recommend to eat Japanese food here, because there are better places close by for Japanese food, like Iwase. It's an ok place to have tea/coffee. Will I come back? Amazing Brunch for a very reasonable price. Drinks are also not very expensive and the pastries are great. Brunch (available until 3 pm) consists of a good selection of their self made pastries, bread and also eggs and fresh orange juice. They handed the cake to my husband packaged and when we opened later at the party, it was the wrong cake! When I called to complain at 3pm, all they said was "Oh, yeah. We have your cake. Do you want to come get it? If you already used the other cake, the cake you got is the same price as the one you ordered." Don't they realize that when we make a point to tell them that we need to pick it up early in the morning, it's because we needed it earlier? Why didn't they call us when they realized that they made a mistake? Thanks to them we celebrated my daughter's birthday with the cake with someone else's name on it. What's the point of ordering and to get a nice cake to celebrate when you get a wrong cake with someone else's name on it? SO if you need to custom order a cake for an event, I recommend you check twice and three times because this place will not tell you if they make mistake! read more
