Yogurt on a cone and Veggie Hot dogs
    Jennyfer A.

We went to the IKEA Bistro. My friend and I tried 2 Veggie hot dogs which are vegetarian, and yogurt on an ice cream cone, a special Canada Day item. We also had their sparkling water all for under 5$, what a great deal! My friend thought the veggie dogs were just okay but I liked them. The lingonberry flavored sparkling water was my favorite. Much better than the pear flavored water. The yogurt had double flavors, vanilla and strawberries which was very yummy! The yogurt is so creamy it tastes like ice cream. There is plenty of room for everyone to eat and I loved the decorations, minimalistic and clean.

IKEA is good at many things. Inexpensive chic furniture and home decor is one of them. Having the restaurant that serves the cheapest breakfast in town at $1.99 is probably the second best thing. It's a similar strategy to Costco with their $1.49 hot dog and soft drink. It is in the hope to get you in the door so you can drop a hundred on items in the store! Ikea even is good at selling cheap hot dogs as well. I used to eat more hot dogs in my youth but after all the jokes that they are made of filler and the less desirable animal parts made me reconsider my more semi-frequent hot dog consumption. This Ikea in Winnipeg is huge and is 15 years overdue. It's has a great selection of everything IKEA. As per the company mantra all items have the regular cute Swedish names and you can still get lingonberry sauce at the food centre. We came buy to get some items for my daughter. She was happy and so were we for what we picked up. Sure your hands will go red from putting together the hex key furniture however IKEA in my mind serves a necessary purpose for modern home items with low cost flair. The Winnipeg store is clean and easily accessible! On the weekends it must be a nuthouse here however!

    fish and chips $6.49

Came here for lunch during the week and was surprised by the lineup at noon hour. The line moves kinda slow as the bottleneck is the hot food area which is run by two staff people. I think the wait took about 15 minutes. The best part of this place is the kids meals - they're extremely inexpensive at $1.99 - which included a small vegetarian penne pasta and a small milk. The pasta sauce was bland and nothing special but it "feels" like it's a better alternative to some other fast food options for kids. The fish and chips at $6.49 was surprisingly good - crispy with no real grease and the fries were crisp and well seasoned. The roasted quarter chicken with mashed potatoes $5.99 was probably the worst dish of the bunch as the chicken was really dry from being overcooked. The mashed potatoes were strange so opt for fries instead. The dining area is clean and bright. There are some hits and misses but for the price it's okay for a cafeteria. I wouldn't plan to come here for a meal but if you happen to be shopping here, then this place is an okay option. Best part - go downstairs and get a gigantic frozen yogurt for $1! I love their frozen yogurt - it's so cream, one almost thinks it's ice cream.

I tried my first crayfish in IKEA. It's to die for! I highly recommend it. IKEA's food is always delicious with cheap price. Nice place to visit and to eat.

Usually go for the coffee and cinnamon buns. The $1 breakfast are ok too.

Prices are affordable but you gotta put the items together yourself unless you want to spend extra for assembly.

Tip: If you like kitchen gadgets, the assortment is excellent at this store…read more I haven't been to a Think Kitchen in years since I walked into my first and only one in Vaudreuil-Dorion. I was sad to find out that this store has closed. I still travel with a lightweight knife-fork-spoon set that I had purchased from that store. I was happy to see this store at Collection Outlet Winnipeg earlier this month. I went in to browse. There were two female staffers in the store that talked the entire time that I was there. There was an older woman with a British accent providing advice to a younger woman who seemed to have an Arabic accent. I have always been a fan of small appliances. This store has many. There was a small rice cooker that was adorable. I saw escargot bakeware. I got into making escargot several months ago, but don't have an escargot plate with the divets. I didn't get one. I have been using cupcake cups instead. The cocktail shaker sets caught my attention. I'd like one. The store had a sale on them. I ended up getting a travel looseleaf tea stick to steep my tea. It looked easy to clean and simple to take anywhere. I still love looking at ice moulds. This one had small cubes that you freeze and then push out of the mould into its own tray. Cool! When I was ready to pay for my item, the two female staffers stopped talking. I'm not sure if I should have been glad or sad that I had ended it. The British woman cashed me out. I ended up joining the Stokes mailing list, which Think Kitchen is a part of. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I put my new tea steeper in my bag. I thanked the woman and left. It's a cool tea steeper. It's easy to use and clean. No complains. It holds the perfect amount of looseleaf tea. It's a cool store. I'm glad that I dropped by. (266)

I have wanted to revisit Creative Paper Gallery for a long time. When I first arrived in Winnipeg,…read moreI briefly stayed with a friend in River Heights until I found an apartment in Osborne Village. This store used to be at 404 Academy Road, which was super close to where I was living. I loved browsing around this store. Its original store location wasn't far from this location at the corner of Academy and Ash Street back in 1976. It moved again in the late 2010's. It's still in River Heights, but on Corydon Avenue at Niagara. It occupies an old drugstore. I dropped by on a hot Friday afternoon in early July. This place is in a super small plaza. I found a parking spot parallel to Corydon Avenue and then walked in. This store was air-conditioned. A friendly woman approached me and asked if I needed any help. I frankly didn't have a item in mind that I needed. I thought that this place would be the perfect place to figure out what to get for my friend's birthday. She left me alone for a bit, but managed to ask again if I was okay. I was. This store has a bunch of unique gifts for anyone, from toddlers, to folks celebrating their 100th birthday. It is one of my favourite stores in Winnipeg. I liked seeing wooden trucks and puzzles for young children. This store has plushies for kids and those young and heart. If you are looking to personalize a pen, you have found the place. This store also has fountain and smooth-rolling ballpoint pens. I also like that this store has quirky gifts. I got my friend a set of cat nail clippers for both your fingernails and toenails. I also got a set of guitar-shaped measuring spoons. To top things off, I got a flip mood calendar featuring dogs and fun words of wisdom by mood. This store is awesome. I spent a long time looking at birthday cards and picked out the perfect one for my friend. I oddly didn't get anything for me. If I did, I'd probably be broke. There was the cutest rainbow purse. I also liked the Mary cat jar scraper spatula. It was the best combination of practicality and whimsy. I also liked we shared the same first name. I spent a good hour at this store, so having the female staffer ask if I was okay was pretty good. She left me alone to browse and pick out the best gifts. I went to the counter to pay for my items. I paid with a credit card. All went well. She placed my items in a branded plastic bag. I thanked her and wished her a great day. She reciprocated. I'm glad that this store is still kicking around. It's a local success story that has been in business for decades. It's awesome. (270)
