This is the first sushi restaurant I've been to that puts cheese on their sushi and I'm not sure how I feel about it. We had the eggrolls and duck rangoons as appetizers and this was perfect. Boyfriend rates the eggrolls as 2nd best he's ever had (after 123Dzo!). He also had his usual chicken teriyaki, loved it. Says the sauce is perfect, and he loves the sticky rice you can order on the side. We shared some salmon nigiri and I also ordered the orange blossom maki. Now - I'm not a fan of "spicy-hot" anything - I never use hot sauce, chili flakes etc - but I always order sushi rolls with "spicy" in the name such as spicy salmon, etc and it's *never* spicy hot to the point I can't eat it - but I've had this issue here in the past, and I should have remembered. Depending on your tolerance level for hotness... you might want to keep it in mind - both the spicy salmon filling AND the spicy mayo on top of the Orange Blossom are *very hot*. To the point I could only eat a couple of pieces. I would avoid rolls with "spicy" in the description, or ask if they can make it not hot next time. Other than that, food is perfect here. Bit of a lack of atmosphere - it's kid-friendly, too bright lights and no music but super noisy. But we will return!

I wasn't expecting much from a low-frills sushi spot this far from the coast, but the quality of the fish was genuinely impressive--especially considering the location. I had the Tako Su, Salmon Lovers (nigiri and rolls), steak & shrimp hibachi, and the seaweed salad. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The salmon in particular was buttery and clean-tasting--easily rivaling what I've had in much bigger cities. The place itself isn't trying to be upscale or trendy, and that's part of the charm. It's casual, comfortable, and pulls it off with zero pretense. No flash, just great food and friendly service. If you're in Plattsburgh and craving sushi or hibachi, Yama Sushi is absolutely worth a visit. I'll be back for sure.
