These two jordanian brothers are the most agreeable, happy men you could ever hope to meet. It is a little difficult to tell them apart, except that Khalid is taller and a lot more talkative (in a good way). They provide excellent old fashioned service with a smile. You can send your man in there to have a traditional barber shop shave and he can come out feeling very pampered - a good idea for a Christmas or birthday present for those hard to buy for men. It is a busy little shop especially on the weekends. Regulars and visitors alike file in here for a $20 haircut using just clippers. How cheap is that! We girls have to spend at least three times that to get our mane clipped.

The salon itself is suitably decorated for the grand old building it's in, with wooden floors and just the required amount furniture, being two comfortable barber chairs, a third (old) one just for show, a sitting area with some magazines, the main counter and a wash/shampoo area to the rear. Lenny (Adam's dog) seems like he's part of the furniture but will respond to some patting, love and admiration (see his picture on their website). I've been coming here for quite a few years and can honestly say I haven't been disappointed. It's not one of those large unisex places where you feel like you're on a conveyer belt and your nostrils are filled with the smells of hair dye and nail technician chemicals, nor is it one of those latest trend places where you get a beer, a facial and a shoulder rub at the same time, but your haircut never looks like it should. So i was sitting there watching them cut, and they were incredibly slow, like ridiculously slow. Im glad I wasn't catching a bus because I would of missed it. But at a place that only does walk-in cuts, in the city on a Friday afternood/night (late night trading) you would think they would be trying to pick up the pace a little... but instead it was appropriate to physicaly stop cutting and watch a scene of the movie and it was most of them not just 1 worker. A surly and highly coiffed young barber sat me down. I told him I wanted a "short but not too short" haircut and indicated with my fingers that I wanted about 3cm off all over. Before I could blink he SHAVED the side of my head in a crew cut. I was horrified. I left disgusted and confounded. I now have a shaved section of hair above my right ear. The barber subsequently apologised but the damage is done. Why can't a barber do short back and sides? Surely that is elementary to the trade? You have been warned.

The drop-in nature of Louie's means you can pick a day and time that suits you (ahem...your child) and just rock up. He's open from around 9.30 to 4.30 or 5, depending on the day, and Saturdays by appointment. There are six chairs for waiting customers and it's around 10 minutes per person. If there are two or three waiting, I'll stick around, four and I'll come back another time. Kids warm to Louie and having sons of his own, he's very comfortable with them. It's $18.50 for boys and men. Slightly less for pensioners. Slightly more for a full scissor cut. It's a pretty basic setting - there's a water fountain and TV with Foxtel and if you ask nicely, he'll usually switch it to the cartoon channel to keep your kid entertained while he goes about his business. Barber on Unley comes highly recommended.
