I was struggling trying to differentiate between all the different leather stores and what they…read moreoffer. I walked around and looked at several places. I felt the most comfortable and trusting in this one. The owner (?) Robie (Roberta) took so much time explaining all the differences. I shopped around and she had the best prices for the quality. Some other places were cheaper but I didn't think the workmanship was the same. She even explained the option of getting refunded at the airport for the tax you pay on these goods, with an invoice. Nobody else explained that. This is like 35 euro on a 225 purchase. So, its significant. Some places offer a discount on cash purchases but they may not be giving you the full credit for the tax. Robie even has an offical reference that lists the specific amounts. I highly recommend checking this store out as part of your visit. Great selection, quality, price and service. You can even special order and they will ship! Fantastic!

After being with my friends for less than an hour I ran into my parents again and my mom had bought a purse from a man who's brand name was Modi. She told me how nice Mauro was, what a deal she got (I couldn't believe what she paid for such a beautiful bag), and that I should go check it out. If I had the money and the time, I could easily have bought five bags from him, but being pressed for time (and money) I left with a beautiful wallet. He hand makes everything and is one of the most genuinely nice men you could ever meet. If I am ever back in Assisi I will definitely be visiting his shop again.

What sold me on buying a leather duffle bag was a sewing machine sitting right in the middle of the shop that was old and showed much evidence of being used. We were in a rush and couldn't hang out more to look around but it all looked wonderful. If and when we return of Italy we are definitely making a stop here. I hope he sets up a website sometime soon.
