This place is probably 4.5 stars. I mean, it was good enough for me to put on this site right?!
We were in the area because we were up in the mountains skiing (well I was snowboarding. the rest of my italian side of my family was skiing) and we were walking around a neighboring town, checking out the sites, and we decided we wanted something to eat. After using google and some other things to try and find something, my father-in-law suggested this place. He'd come here with some colleagues not too long ago and enjoyed it so why not. It wasn't that far away by car either.
First of all, this place doesn't take reservations. NO RESERVATIONS. I repeat. This is important when you're looking for places for lunch. Especially when you realize that this place is very popular. The woman on the phone told us that we could just come by and try to get seats even though they can't reserve us anything, and even though we had 7 people in our party. It turns out though, that Tito's has a lot of seating. We got a whole huge table outside (well not outside outside, they have like a sunroom) so that worked. Lucky it was a strangely warm day and quite sunny, so sitting in the sunroom was warm and inviting. We sat down and ordered some bottle water and looked over the menu. When our server came back with the water, she also came back with two huge wooden plates of meat. Glorious meats! Speck and salami and proscuitto and cheese and all types of stuff. And it was a lot on each tablet too. I thought, well I'm not even sure I can have food after this. Just kidding, I still ordered a main course.
I got the beef Goulash with polenta, my mother in law got the Stinko (pig's leg) and my wife got the pasta with venison ragu. I almost got the pasta with venison ragu, but I'm glad I got my goulash, which really hit the stop: warm and flavorful. I thought maybe the meat could have been more tender but the flavor was great. The polenta was good too even though I'm not huge polenta person. My mother in law really enjoyed the stinko. She gave me a piece which was nice of her and she just powered through the rest of it, and it was a big leg too. All the food was really good, but one thing I noticed was that the food came out really fast. I mean REALLY fast. From the moment we ordered to the moment the first person got their plate, there is no doubt in my mind that took about two minutes. My guess is they start making the food early in the morning so its ready for the lunch time rush. Which makes sense, the place is packed for lunch and since they don't do reservations, is the fastest way to turn over tables. I'm ok with that if the food is good. And the food is certainly good here.
And cheap too! For 7 people to eat, with bottles of water, two liters of wine, and coffees, it was 120EUR more or less. That's less than 20EUR per person! Outstanding! The other great thing about Tito's is it also has a market attached to the restaurant, so you can take some speck home from the Maso dello Speck as well as breads and cheeses of the local variety. No wonder this place is so popular. Stop by. Enjoy! read more
